For those of you who mystery shop for Market Force... what do you typically get paid for each assignment? Can you give me an example of what you've done and how long it took?

Yes, I usually do their Panera Bread assignments and they have been paying $7 plus food reimbursement, and I match it up with some mystery shopping apps I have and end up getting paid through both. It's usually just doing some timings, takes about 15 minutes to write the report. Very easy.

It depends. Every merchant is different in terms of both pay and time required. For a Verizon Wireless, it is $7 (more if it is close to the deadline and no one has claimed the shop) and I spend 30-45 minutes taking pictures and running down the checklist. Kmart/Sears is longer, usually 1.5-2hrs for me, but pays $25 per shop. McDs is one that varies really widely; when first listed it is usually $7.50 plus reimbursement but I've gotten as much as $17 to take McDs shops that aren't filled when they're getting close to deadline, and those only take 20-25min.

Hey, honestly it just takes time and getting more assignments opened up to you as you do more things. Certain assignments require at least 1000 HITs done, etc. the mturkforum helped me a bunch honestly and the people there are the best resource I've found! Hope that helps you out a bit. It really can make you some money, I made over $2000 last year doing it while watching tv or just generally being lazy during the day (best hours are from 8am-5pm, not a whole lot to do at night). I'm never home now to do it, but if I weren't working again, you bet I'd be doing a lot of turking again!

That's one I just couldn't seem to get into. Maybe I didn't give it enough time but it just didn't feel like I was making enough for it to be worth more time. And I'm willing to work for pennies - I'm even happy at Textbroker right now, even though the pay stinks, simply because the work is quick, easy, and on my own terms.

I like Volition as a starter resource for good companies. Market Force, Trendsource and Bare are good companies for getting your feet wet and seeing if it is a good fit. (Market Force in particular, Trendsource and Bare are both nitpickier than Market Force.)

I'm registered with a lot of companies that I don't do shops for because they don't have anything that works for me right now but I keep an eye out for the future in case they get new clients.

Working on my taxes now and I did shops for 33 different companies last year.

Hate to break it to you, but I absolutely am. And thanks to it, I get to bring my mom with us in January completely on my dime with that money I have earned. Just because it's not working for you doesn't mean it's not for others.

I don't know if you will see this, been awhile since this thread started. Just wanted to thank you for the survey info. I saw this thread about a month ago, and since then I have been averaging about 50.00 a week with the 2 sites you listed.
Yes, I have my share of "sorry you do not qualify" but sometimes I hit the right time, and I can go thru 3-4 surveys in a row. I do them in the am after kids catch the bus for school, and then I usually have good luck in the late afternoon..

Sure my family makes fun of me, but I just tell them to remember this when we get to do Universal/IAO on our next trip thanks to mom and her surveys!

If you want extra money, do sales. Sell anything. I just can't see doing surveys or secret shopping to generate real income over the long run. At least I can't see the work put in providing any real long term benefit.

If you run your own mini sales business, you can grow and develop. Plus in sales, if you want more money, you just work more hours.

Not everyone is looking for "real long term benefit", though. Sales, particularly of your own product as opposed to a party-sales model, is a big investment of time and requires being available at the exact times many mothers least want to be working - evenings and weekends. Most of the ideas on this thread aren't suitable for making a living, but they are suitable for earning a little extra income without needing daycare or taking away from family time.

I do some sales (purses and doll clothes, mostly) but I limit it to the holiday season because it is such a time-suck. I know women who make their living with their crafts and others who earn a decent income with Scentsy, Avon, etc., but both require a time commitment that I'm not looking to make at this stage of life. I don't care if there's no future in mystery shopping; I make a little extra cash, take only the jobs that don't interfere with the kids' schedules, and never have to juggle work vs family time. Right now, that's more important than the money or the long-term outlook.

No thanks, definitely not for me. I can't stand people trying sell me things in general and I don't plan on bugging others to make money. That's great for those who make money this way, but it's not for everyone.

I'm a SAHM, homeschooling both my DD's with the oldest being a senior this year. DH is the soul provider. I have been a home based HBA - home based travel agent for 2 yrs and doing pretty good with that. I don't get a check weekly but averaging a monthly or every other month. I do Quick Rewards and Swagbucks for a little extra. No definitely not much but every little bit helps. I've tried selling Avon, candles, etc. where I live there is an Avon rep on every corner so selling Avon was basically out the door for me. I was spending more than selling. Candles, people would rather go buy a cheap candle from Walmart.

Funny thing, I was on the Budget Board looking for tips on our actual vacation, and saw this thread. I wasn't really looking for extra money, but hey I'll take it!
I work from home pt for my DH's company, so filling my spare time with surveys works well for me. I even get a few samples to try, and report back on.

I try to shoot for 50 a week, figure by the end of November I should have enough for IOA/Universal tix and probably a character breakfast for all of us, both things I wasn't originally planning on but will add in now!

I work for Intelichek. The allow background noise and I can work when I want. You are paid per task. I use the money for our trips.

There are a lot of really good work at home companies. If you have a part time job or full time job and need some more income; a sales job is probably not ideal. I've been working at my work at home company for 2 years. I've had 3 trips to Disney last year and a trip to NY on my money I made. The nice thing is, I can make as much as I want.

The other benefit of doing an in-home sales business is the incredible income tax implications if you set up an LLC or the like. You can deduct tons and probably save huge on your annual tax bill.

Survey sites are an easy way to make money, but they do take time. For me, sharing AdvoCare has paid me much more than survey sites ever did. Looking back, I found myself spending up to an hour filling out a survey and made $1. Now I can have a 15 minute phone call and make $75! I know selling products like candles and bags can be difficult, but I've found that nutritional products are always in need, and they're consumable so people run out and want more! We had no intent of doing AdvoCare early on, but when your husband drops 20 pounds and you lose 5% body in a month, people notice! Like anything else, it is what you put into it. You wanna make $200-300 a month, you can do that with as little as a 30 minutes a week. If you want to make more (we're averaging $1,500 a month with about 1-2 hours a week), you'll need to put in more work.
