Yes, historically they have offered extra EMH days during peak weeks.

Not sure which direction I believe WDW is going with EMHs, but I do support the notion that Disney has always added more morning EMHs during peak times.

Remember that Easter was in April in both 2014 and 2015, and Easter is in March in 2016. That is more likely the reason you see more morning EMHs in April of 2014 and 2015, and fewer morning EMHs in April 2016.

I don't think comparing a holiday period supports the argument that they are getting rid of EMH. Historically it's been 1 day a week most of the year.

I imagine the people paying peak resort room rates would feel differently about it.

And the rest of the year has had PM EMH cut back 33% from 3 hours to 2. Many characters were eliminated as well.

Because they really can't be making all that much money off this compared to EMH.

Here's what I wrote in another thread:

Not at all. If for no other reason, there is a fixed amount of money they can make off this. No stores and other restaurants are open, so the only $ Disney can make off this is the $69 or whatever they charge for the event. That's $69 per guest income. Consider a guest arriving for EMH. They walk down main street and get pulled in for a Starbucks coffee and a croissant ($11). Its their first day in the parks...time to buy those Mickey Ears ($15). Son sees a new pin he's gotta have ($11.95). A Photopass Photog takes a great family photo in front of the castle in the early morning light ($15). Time to ride Splash Mountain before the lines. Look at that on-ride photo! So adorable. Gotta pick that one up! ($15). See what I mean? In 30 minutes of EMH, Disney has already made almost as much income off a person ($67.95) as they will in a whole two-hour time frame, with the potential for more. Any way you crunch it, EMH means more money for Disney than this event so EMH aren't going anywhere

Surely you are not so naive to believe that Disney would not expand the offerings at some point? If they pull EMH completely, and that decision does not impact the number of people staying in their resorts (which I don't believe it would; I would continue to stay in a Disney resort even if they pulled the EMH perk) I would be shocked if Disney did not open up the entire park for paid EMH hours. They would be foolish not to.

Its not just about easter, its about spring breaks. But note the extra Morning EMH's have not shifted to March, march is the same as previous years. But in April they have drastically reduced morning EMH's in MK, but it appears they are offing a new premium access offering, I think the relationship between the two is pretty darn clear.

It seems rather than offering more morning EMH's during this peak time, they are instead offering a paid access offering, which is in effect replacing morning EMH's with a paid event.

Also(like i've mentioned a few times in other threads), hours for the summer are down across the board. June, July, and August have MK closing at 10 every night. Even if they keep EMH for now, it appears we are losing hours. Price didn't go down either.

That is the fine line that is going to be interesting. Disney will want to sell as many tickets as possible but they have limited space for the breakfast and if lines are long people are going to complain. Same with the evening, people are expecting walk ons for their $169 but Disney will have the temptation to push the ticket limit.

Exactly if I pay that much for limited access I best be able to walk on the rides continuously. If it's anything like the "limited" Halloween and Christmas parties where the crowds were ridiculous it would not be worth the money to me.

But how can that be? The rationale for raising prices so much and going to "surge pricing" was that they were at or over capacity due to the crowds. Why would they cut general hours during peak instead of adding them to add capacity? Wouldn't that kind of push people to pay an insane $150 for 3 hours of park time? No way they would do that!

Disney wouldn't be turning into an all our greed corporation..... would they?

Nobody claims Disney has done away with EMH. LOTS of people think they are laying the groundwork though.

And plenty of people are looking for and getting advice on how to adjust their long standing plans in light of the curve balls being lobbed at them on a seemingly daily basis right now.

And LOTS of people are wrong. EMH aren't going anywhere in my opinion. People are losing their minds because of this stuff and it's absolutely crazy. Disney is introducing EXTRA things for people who want to pay for them, and these things have had no impact on the existing EMH times.

Yes, they did not add the daily EMH during the 2 weeks around Easter this year but the rest of the year has been usual 1 morning per week.

If I'm contemplating / planning a Disney trip, I do appreciate having an idea what might happen even if it is now just speculation. If you've planned and completed many trips you know Disney does not necessarily give you adequate notice for trip impacting changes. ie FP+ changes, park hours changes, attraction closures, & so on & so on...

EMH have already been reduced over the past year. I can figure that out without even losing my mind!

I suppose a separate question is whether or not this trend will be continued. We know they have cut back on other EMH's, instead of 3 hours in evenings offering 2 for example.

But the original post that EMHs aren't going away is already suspect as we have noted at least 9 EMHs in April HAVE gone away.

An interesting parallel argument would be to insist that Wishes aren't going away due to MNSSHP or MVMCP ... Do wishes go away completely ? Nope, but are they impacted, do -some- of them go away ? Absolutely.

Of course its quite possible that WDW does get rid of EMHs altogether, in fact I would think this more likely than getting rid of wishes altogether. But the arguments are still similar. It will be interesting to see if as we go through the year any extra morning EMHs are offered during peak seasons, or, if they follow the trend of April this year and instead simply offer this paid access event instead. Regardless, its pretty clear morning EMH's are being reduced already.

Please clarify for me - You pay $149 for extra park time, but is that over and above your daily park ticket (similar to requiring a park ticket as well as tickets to Mickey's Christmas Party)?? Or can anyone just pay the $149 to come into the park for those three hours.

Morning EMH is something we do at least once for each park during our stay (don't usually do the night-time EMH). I will be sad if they stop it.
