I actually liked the previous version with Gilbert as i find him funny as well as Phil Hartman and Don Rickles in the pre show. The new or old version that runs now is just an abomination IMO. That may put me in the minority but I can't see that show without someone like Gilbert making fun of it. I do like the real bird show at the AK though.
It's interesting that you mention that DAK show (Flights of Wonder.)
FoW has recently been closed for several months as they added a permanent roof to the FoW outdoor theater (That theater -without a roof- has been used for the FoW show for years.)
There's a line in the old/current Tiki Room show where one of the principle bird hosts (Michael) sings:
The bird of paradise is an elegant bird,
It likes to be seen, and it loves to be heard.
Most little birdies will fly away,
But the Tiki Room birds are here everyday.
Well, when the FoW shows began (in limited runs) after the new theater roof was added,
that roof upset one or two of the FoW birds, and...
they flew away!
Yup.
Right out of the theater and into the "wild" of DAK.
They did manage to retrieve the birds... without harm to them, AFAIK.
Recently, they have been running limited shows (or parts of shows) to
help acclimate the confused birds to their new performance space.
So, life imitates art (in a convoluted sort of way, I guess.)
