Extra Magic Hour and the MK - super crowded in the afternoon?

We're planning on being at the MK early on Dec 21 for EMH. DH says we should just stay there all day and catch fireworks and SM that night so that we won't be spending time traveling back and forth from the MK to another park and/or the AKL, where we're staying.

But don't parks that have EMH tend to get really crowded in the afternoons? More so than they'd usually be if it weren't an EMH day? I'm just wondering if it'd be better to scoot out of the MK and go somewhere else that afternoon and evening... what do you think?

Can anyone share their experiences with what it's like on EMH days, i.e. more crowded as the day goes on?

I was at Mk on Thurs 20th Nov. We arrived about 1:30pm and the park was really busy. We went the previous week on a wednesday and it was much much quieter. On the Thurs though one of the cast members said that it was quiet all morning but at lunch time started getting realy busy. The fast pass machines for Splash Mountain were closed when we arrived yet the standby time on the board outside went from 0 minutes to 20 minutes by the time I finished the ride.It just seemed like people were streaming in from nowhere. We did manage to do other rides like Snow WHite, haunted Mansion, IASW and Philarmagic with little waiting time but Peter Pan had a 45 minute wait and a fast pass return time of 2 hours. I think a lot of people arrive in the afternoon for the Spectromagic parade at 6pm. Why not try and see the Spectromagic parade on another day when there is no early entry? Then again I think around the 21st you are a bit too close to xmas to hope for MK being quieter. Anyway Good luck whatever you do. And stake your place for the parade early.
