Extra hours on rental car

I have a trip where I come in at 10 AM and leave 10 days later at 5:00 PM. Is it better for me to book a rental car with those times, or go 10 AM to 10 AM and have them charge me the overage? I think I know the answer, but was just wondering if anyone had any firsthand experience.

YOu are better off doing the full day. Otherwise they can report the car as stolen if you don't return it. And most contracts state the hourly rate at around $12 - $15 and hour if you don't return it as scheduled.

Agree with Shelly. If you use extra time, they charge you whatever they want to charge you. Much better to book the time you will actually need, or even a little more.

For Alamo (and corporate cousins National and Enterprise), I think that the hourly rate is usually set so that after 2 added hours, you've already reached the daily rate. You also pay the extra daily fees (those that are charged on a daily basis rather than as a percentage of the rental cost), so I would certainly book the extra day.

We just called them and talked to them they were super helpfull especially considering you get to the airport early to drop off car get to your terminal possibly eat or get snacks. It wont be as much time as you think. They may not even charge you... they did not charge us.
You get in at 10 so you may not pick it up till closer till 11 and your flight is at 5 if you are there at least the two hours early thats 3. So only a 4 hour gap thats not that much

You were lucky. And 4 hours is a long time and after losing business to Covid would not count on it’s ok to return late for no charge
