Planning a trip in December of 2022. Is it worth staying in a deluxe resort and going to MK for Extra hours or stay at a moderate and use the savings to purchase a ticket for the afterhours Christmas Party?

Worth is a very subjective concept. How many people are going to be in your party? You’ll first need to crunch some numbers and figure out the costs (deluxe nights vs. how many party tickets you’d need to purchase)

Only 3. A moderate vs. deluxe in price difference is $300.00 +++++.

These two are very different from each other. The Extended Hours give you the opportunity to go on as many rides as you can in a much less crowded park. The Christmas party is a festive event with treats, parades, fun music, and unfortunately some long queues (although nothing exceeded 30 min wait time when we were there).

I think there are a lot of other things to consider. You say $300 difference but is that for just one night? Is your trip more than one night and you are split staying just for the deluxe hours? For that hassle, it wouldn’t be worth it. Another thing to consider is whether the Christmas party will be a historical party or an after hours event as it was last year. The after hours events last year averaged $169-$209. That’s an even bigger difference than you are calculating. Again, I think there are just too many unknowns at this point to make a decision. Give us an exact dollar difference and timeframe and we can provide better advice.

We are going in December also. What we are doing is a split stay, a few days at a deluxe and a few days at Pop a value. We are staying at the deluxe on the day MK usually has extended hours. We are hoping they still have it and we can go to extended hours. We plan to buy tickets for the Christmas after hours or party also, which ever they are having. We also rented DVC points for our deluxe resort. That helps a lot with the cost.
Prices have gone up so much it’s a struggle to keep it in budget.

I can't help with your price differential, but we did the MK Christmas party in 2019 and it was well worth it. Fun festivities and treats everywhere and we walked on almost every ride. Hope they bring it back this year!

I guess it really depends. If it were me, I’d go with the deluxe resort because of the nicer rooms, amenities, pools, etc. I’ve been a bit spoiled with deluxe resorts.

I’d also check reviews of the 2020 Christmas Party since it will be more like that than years past. Personally, I thought the park was way too crowded for the Halloween Party last year. Especially for the cost. I also think that the tickets are going to be more expensive than $300 for three people.

I guess it really depends on what you value and what deluxe resort that we’re talking about. Like Grand Floridian takes Christmas very seriously.

I also haven’t done the deluxe hours yet. I’ll be checking them out in May, but you get extra hours at Magic Kingdom and Epcot.

The tickets are going to be at least $200.00. We will be staying at least 4 nights so $1200.00 difference.

I have it figured out. We will stay our first night at the dolphin, go to extra hours that night, and then move to a moderate the next morning. I would stay at the dolphin the entire trip, but December 1-4 has been sold out since February. Not sure if we will do the party/after hours, I will make that decision when ticket become available. I really planed Disney in December, so that we could do Candlelight at Epcot, I had not planned on spending a whole lot of time at MK.

I did Rope Drop once. It was fun but not worth getting up that early and those crowds again. I'd rather stay later. I'm glad I attended Rope Drop but for me; once was enough. Good luck.
