Extra Charge for 3rd Child?

I just call CRO to get prices on our early Dec. trip. I asked for the CKO discount for POR and Poly. The Poly rate was what had been quoted on these boards ($198.71) but the POR rate was $111.00 inc. tax not $94.35. I ask if there was an extra charge since we have 2 adults and 3 children and was told "no" but obviously I am being charged another $15.00 per night for the 3rd child. Anyone else every encounter this situation?

Does anyone know if POR will have an AP discount (my CRO said he didn't have this information)?

POR can only accomodate 5 in the AB rooms that have a trundle bed. (Most of the POR rooms can only accomodate 4 and POR is the only moderate that can accomodate 5). There is a $15 charge per night for the trundle bed. So "technically", there isn't a charge for the extra child, it's a charge for the trundle.

The rooms in the Poly have a daybed for the 3rd child, and as far as I know, all of the Poly rooms can accomodate 5.

According to other posts on the boards, the AP rates will be out Sunday (7/28). Good luck!

My understanding is that the room charge at the Poly is the same whether you have 2 children or 3 children in the room. At PO, you are charged extra if you have 3 children. If you have 2 chidlren, and end up with a room in AB with a trundle, you do not pay extra for the trundle. So, it is inaccurate to say you pay for the trundle, because not everyone does. You pay extra for a third child.

We live in CA and go to DL alot. NONE of the three resort hotels on property do this (charge for a third child). I think it's a disgrace that WDW offers such limited choices to a family of 5 (basically only deluxe lodging, no economy or moderate)

I will defer the "real" $charges$ to the folks who have stayed in this resort, as I haven't. But I would still call Disney and verify what you have been charged and why. By the way, I hear the Port Orleans Resort is wonderful. Have a great vacation!

I agree with you Julia M. We are a family of 5 and I think it is terrible that there aren't more options available to us as far as where to stay.

I agree -- you folks have excellent points. Please pass along your comments to Disney directly, as I know that they "listen." An easy way to do this is by using the "Contact Us" (or whatever it's called lately) link that is found on each of the Walt Disney World website pages. Sometimes even the tiniest voice can cause a change.

You pay for USING the trudle bed. While I do wish that more moderate would accomodate a family of five, I am thankful that PO-Riverside can. And I would not want to squish more than four people into an All Star room even if I could. Sometimes you just have to deal with things the way they are.

Actually, you don't necessarily pay for using the trundle. You pay for the extra person. I have seen more than one post in the last few years I have lurked/posted on this board, with families stating that they stayed in AB with two kids and used the trundle, because the child enjoyed it (and did not pay extra) In our case, we did not use the trundle (I slept with two kids adn dh slept with the other) I specifically told the CM this when we made our reservation, and we were told it didn't matter-we still had to pay for the third child.

Basically, as a family of five, I wish that WDW would provide more lodging options for our family. At DL, we have stayed in two of the three resort hotels (we haven't stayed in the GC yet!...hopefully this Xmas) and neither hotel charged for a 3rd child. When I have called for rates at the GC, there wasn't a difference in price either, between 2 and 3 kids.

Bottom line, the WD company can obviously do whatever it wants. I'm not arguing that. I just wish there were more options for our family...we would definitely take more trips if there were.

We stayed in POR in April. We were in a tough position as it was our first time staying in the park and I had no clue where to stay. Deluxe resorts were way out of our price range at rack rates.

I booked the POR alligator bayou for the reason that they sleep 5 with an infant in the crib. Well I have 2YO twins and 10DS and 13 DS. The twins do not sleep in beds yet but I figured a trundle we could try. At check in I explained my dilema. She told me to take a look at the room and decide what I wanted to do. She told me I would be charged $15.00 if I used the trundle bed. I decided not to struggle with a 2yo on his first time in a bed. I opted for 2 cribs. We never touched the trundle and were not charged for it.

I'm so jealous........dh and I are planning a trip, hopefully Poly concierge, but it's two years away!!! (And that's only if we can save enough.......definitely not a sure thing at this point!)

I thought our Nov. 2000 trip was our once in a lifetime. Our family had such a wonderful time I knew we had to go back and started saving right away. I never thought we had any "extra" to put away until I started squirreling away change, tax rebate checks and really asking myself when I went shopping if I really needed what I was buying. I can't believe what we've saved! We are now going in Dec. 2002 and staying at the Poly - great rates. With a little fairy dust anything is possible.

That's the way I felt about our April, 2001 trip. We stayed 10 full days (plus 2 travel days), did an Illuminations cruise, HDDR, breakfast with the Princesses, Pirates Cruise, Wonderland tea and more.

But now I want to return. We can get great fares at Xmas tinme right now on SWA, but the hotels on site are too expensive! I can't afford to book our flights ($1300) and not have a place to stay!

So, I'm not sure what to do.

I am very very excited about our trip. Ive always thought staying in the Poly was way out of my reach, however when we went in April we bought APs. Well of course when you do that you know your going to plan another trip!!! These boards help so much and give you so many ideas. I have a few hundred dollars saved just from change. When you want to do something bad enough youll find a way!! Besides, my DH thinks I cant save enough to go again.

But the bargain hunter in me really wants to save a bundle and do a less expensive resort. ( It would give me lots more spending money, I would spend all my time shopping on Main St if I could!!)
But we have had a very stressfull year and DH and I really need a treat. He doesnt know where we are staying just yet. I think ill surprise him.

I look at it this way to, we went for 10 days in April and had an awesome time, but we spent about 1300. to stay at POR. We went during peak season, got good airfare but paid to much for the resort. And this time a 6 night stay at the Poly is costing me 1439.00. Not much more. I think its worth it!

I just booked PO for $99 per night, starting Xmas day. The problem is, we have to travel all day on Xmas. We also can't get home until 1/3, to get the cheap airfare. So, it's $1300 for airfare , $1000 for 9 nights at PO, and $100 for 5 day hopper passes ($3300, before food or spending money)

Dh says it's a good deal, but we shouldn't spend that much money when we can't use the pols or water parks.

I'm bummed!

Julia in Florida you just NEVER know if you can or cant use the pools in December. I have seen it in the 80's at Christmas Time or in the 30's as it was last Christmas. There is also a lot more to do at Disney than just the pools. Fort Wilderness has a ton of activities to do for free or at a nominal cost. There are boats at the resorts that arent priced too high for rent. There are bikes and walking paths.

LOL just giving you some ideas for you to use with your dh!
