Extra Bun

I just ordered an extra bun at Cosmic Rays about 2 weeks ago...I want to say it was $1.20...but I am not positive. I cannot stand the new buns...they do fall apart and are tasteless....regardless I still get the burgers and load them up with toppings.

I never uynderstood why don't you just cut it in half? seems a lot simpler. that's what we do.

I've never done the "order a double cheeseburger with an extra bun" trick, but I think half of a double cheeseburger would be unwieldy for DD6. I'm not sure she could get her mouth around it. No trouble for DD10 ;), but she could also probably eat a double cheeseburger by herself. I can see smaller kids wanting a thinner burger instead of half of a double burger - it would be easier to handle.

When you cut it in half the patties get mangled and the bun gets squished. There isn't adequate room for the toppings and so they slop over the edges and slide around. The whole thing just falls apart and is not much fun to eat.

If I were going to split a burger, I'd much rather get an extra bun.

That is what I have ALWAYS wondered when I read the uproar here about the increase of bun fees.

There would only be a couple of scenarios for me in this situation.

A-I order 2 cheeseburgers because they are hungry

B-I split a cheeseburger in 2 and tell my kids that is lunch since they were not really hungry anyway.

C-I order an extra bun and watch my husband leave the restaurant with the children, head for the car, collect the suitcases and leave Florida with a divorce attorney on the blackberry. It just could never happen.

C....:rotfl2:

A lot of kids whine if they have to share. GASP, imagine that!

pity. sharing is one of the first character traits we deal with. and besides, we aren't talking about sharing the treasured toy or ice cream. we are talking about a burger.

Exactly!:thumbsup2

Same here.

Whether any of us agree with ordering a second bun was not the original question; why does everything have to turn into a DIS debate? Anyway, for what it's worth, I suggested to my sister a little over a year ago that she order a double burger at Backlot Express for her and her son to share because(A)he would probably only eat a few bites, and (B)he would make a mess with a double burger cut in half. Imagine my embarrassment when I was told the bun would be $3!!! She ended up just ordering another burger(without the fries and drink), and he did make a mess with it while eating less than a fourth of it. We first learned of the bun trick when my son was 8, and we were at Liberty Inn in Epcot ordering lunch. My husband commented aloud how he wished they offered a kids hamburger because that's what our son always wanted. The castmember asked if anyone else was going to order a burger, and said that we should just order the double burger and add an extra bun(which was very cheap in 2001). We had never heard of that...Brilliant!! I have personally never thought Disney's counterservice food prices were excessive for theme park fare, but I wish they would offer more choices in the kids meals considering the number of kids they serve each day. And as for everyone's comments about kids whining about sharing...I am 42, and I hated sharing anything with my siblings when I was little. Of course, I did when my parents made me(spanking was accepted, beating was tolerated back then). If all it takes is an extra bun(that is not good and will fall apart) to cut down on the mid-day whine, I'd buy one. And I would check here for the price before I left! Happy new year!

lol, i guess that being raised by a single mom had its benefits. sharing was assumed, not something she begged of us, bribed us or beat into us. she was an awesome mom!

If you want two sandwiches, you might as well order two sandwiches, imo. but someone is always trying to find a way to bypass or save a buck.

If a double cheeseburger is more than a single cheeseburger, and an extra bun costs $3, how much are we actually saving vs buying 2 single burgers? Seriously asking. I have not priced burgers there recently.

google is my friend. I just looked up food prices.

At a counter service place in Magic Kingdom, a single children's burger is $4.99 and that includes whatever a kid's meal contains.

A double burger is $8.09 and the extra bun mentioned was $3, right? So isn't a lot cheaper to just get 2 single burgers for the 2 kids?

we've never paid extra for the 2nd bun. But we also use the dining plan and it's come off as just 1 total credit. So it is cheaper/same price to get the 2nd bun in our experience.

I wouldn't actually pay for a 2nd bun if it didn't come included in the 1 meal credit, doesn't make sense to pay up to $3 for one of those buns.

Ive never been on a dining plan, but that does make sense. :)

I could see my husband sayin, 'honey, if we're THAT broke, we shouldn't be here to begin with.' I'm frugal at home but whew, glad I can feel comfortable getting each person their own sandwich. This is what? a 5 or 6 dollar savings each day, total? Over the top.:confused3

I propose a bun swap. I will buy a bag o' buns and we can pass it around. I'll meet the first swapper at Cosmic Rays.
Anyone?;)

Eh- I can see ordering a second bun if it makes the kids happy but we usually just order kids meals for them.

It must be nice to have such perfect children.Sorry to burst your bubble but all children even well behaved ones whine.

i'm confused with the dp credits. don't you basically get a cs meal for each day? if so, then why worry about saving them?

a bag of buns swap is a great idea! the ultimate in tackiness! lol.
