I am going with my three kids all 18 and above really don't want to pay an extra $240 for the eight nights. Has anyone had this issue does Disney give you a break if the adults are your children? Do they keep track of my kids age in the system since we have been there before?
Thanks,
Ellen

They actually do keep track of the ages in the system if you had them in there from prior trips. We went for my sisters 16th birthday 2 years ago, and when I booked this year they had asked me if she had turned 18! She doesn't turn 18 until until this fall, but thought it was so funny that they knew this.

The extra adult charge is a pain. I went with 3 adults last summer and it really did add to the price of the room. We had gotten a really great room only discount at the WL and it added like $100 a night to the price of the room.

With that being said, Disney makes the rules, and I love Disney, so I can't really stay mad at them :upsidedow

This isn't really a 'Disney rule'. Hotel rates in the US (including Disney resorts) are generally 'double occupancy' rates. For example, if you see a room rate of $200/night double occupancy, that means that that rate is for two guests sharing the room. If there are additional guests in the room, the double occupancy rate no longer applies. For three persons in the room, the rate might go to $225/night, for four persons, it might go to $250/night.

Disney won't make exceptions based on how the guests are related to one another. I have heard that if you add additional adults at check-in, they will sometimes waive the fee. If you'd wanted to do DME or a dining plan, though, that won't work for you.

If they're 18 or older they're adults. Doesn't matter how they are related.

I have always thought that was an unfair charge (for all hotels, not just wdw) Why does it matter how old the guests are?

And why don't they cut the rate in half if there is only one person in the room, for that matter. It's just the way the hotel industry worked it out. They could have said "double occupancy" means two adults and only two, and if you have more adults you need to get a second room.

when you are pricing online and you say 4 adults, are the prices coming up include that fee?

Industry standard - that's it. Been that way for years. Check offsite hotels and you will see the same thing. Doesn't matter who the people are.

Never really understood this since kids under the age of 18 tend to make more of a mess which would lead to more housekeeping.

Just something someone in the hotel industry will have to explain.

I thought maybe it has to do with adults using more water when taking a shower/bath? Because if that was the case.. My family should be charged extra! My kids (15, 13, and 5) can stay for over 30 minutes in the shower! Shhh... I can also stay for 30 minutes or so in the shower! :goodvibes

EDIT TO ADD: ...and my two children are bigger than me! So we should get charged extra! It's like having 3 adults in the room!

When we had the kids going we found it cheaper to stay in the Market Place / Lake Buena Vista area they are on leased Disney property but not Disney owned hotels so cannot get free dining at these hotels. But over there can have four adults to a room and the rooms are much larger. We prefer Disney resorts but was having same problem as you with all the extra add on's. Had the same with the suites is cheaper to get --2 connecting---rooms. Disney's room charges for two adults so could get two rooms and try it that way. Just has to be adult in each room. and if Disney charging them as adults then they should be no problem:yay:

For many hotels, it doesn't matter. They charge higher rates for more than two guests per room, even if the additional guests are children. Disney at least won't charge for guests under 18.

4 adults in the room are much more wear and tear on a room than 2 adults. Also more towel usage (laundry costs), electricity usage, potential additional maintenance, etc etc. That's what the extra fee is for. If the extra people are your adult children, there won't be any break on it because the hotel still incurs the extra costs regardless of who they are.

You don't get the extra magic hours there do you? Or the shuttle? I was thinking on property as everyone is coming different times based on school and jobs and may want to do different parks at times. I quess it is money or convince

Over 18 aren't "kids" anymore in the real world.
It is unfortunate that you are struggling with the fact that your children are adults, but they are. You need to update your mindset, for many reasons, including those far beyond Disney
Disney does keep track
Good Luck

I believe the family suites do not charge for the extra adult fee...and 2 bathrooms and everyone having their own bed would be nice too. I thought the cabins also didnt charge the xtra adult fees, but I am not sure.

If you stay at a "good neighbor" hotel as they are called, you do not get the extra magic hours, magical express airport shuttle, and you cannot add a dining plan.

I am not sure the hotels on Hotel Plaza are considered "good neighbor" hotels. The "good neighbors" are usually a stretch of hotels along 192.

The Hilton on Hotel Plaza DOES offer EMH as do the Swan and Dolphin. None of these three offer the dining plan or magical express.

Yes, try the suites. Or the cabins at Fort Wilderness.

I will try to update my "mindset". The fact that they are all in school has me struggling more with finances then weather they are called adults or kids. They will always be my kids no matter what their age but at this time I am still supporting them.
