Extra 25 point add on

We currently own 150 points resale at Boulder Ridge Villas. We were interested in adding on 25 direct points to get the benefits. We will be there during a Moonlight Magic event and would love to attend, plus the ticket and dining discounts. We plan to go yearly and will pay out of pocket for our meals.

When I called DVC they only have our home resort available. We would have to go on a wait list for any other resort. If we buy at our home resort are all the points together? Meaning at 11 and 7 months we would have 175 points?

We were concerned about the price compared to the end date on the contract. If we had another home resort, this would give us an 11 month booking advantage with banking and borrowing. We would also own that small contract longer.

With the price increase coming, we are trying to decide if we should just take what we can get, or go on a wait list. I'm afraid that they will hold everything back until the price increase and then we will have to pay more.

I know there are several knowledgeable people here and I want to see what others would do or gain other perspectives. Thanks.

25 points is not going to get you much elsewhere. At most 4 nights or so in a studio if you either bank or borrow. People strongly advice against planning to both bank and borrow, as a lot can go wrong.
I would just add on at BRV. 25 years is still a plenty long time. For all you know, you may want out of DVC at the end of that contract. It could also be extended for an extra fee.
You would get to add those 25 points to your 11 month booking advantage.

If you get a different home resort at 7 months you can combine the points but at 11 months you cannot combine them so the most points you would ever have to work with at your second home resort is 75 (bank, borrow, and current UY). Depending on what resort and what DVC season that might not get you very far. If you aren’t a fan of split stays I’d stick with the same home resort (or do a larger add on at a second resort).

Thank you both for your replies. I never thought about 75 points not getting much, especially during peak times. It may be better to have everything all together under one resort. I also did not think about them extending the contract for an extra fee. 25 years is a long time away, but because it is only 25 years does concern me a little, if I would want to sell in 10-15 years there would not be much left on the contract. This is making me lean more toward BRV.

DH is thinking AK may be a better value. It is the same price with a longer contact. Or BLT due to the 11 month window, longer contract and resale value. Or even OKW, cheaper with a longer contract. We would have to get on the wait list though.

Considering your username, I am assuming you have a couple of children. This is where adding on elsewhere could potentially be beneficial, but only if the perks go the way we all want them to go. In 26 years, you could easily have 3 families all using those 25 points. The points themselves would not go far at all, but the discounts on tickets at dining could add up to quite a bit.
This is extremely speculative, though. A lot can and will change with both your family and Disney in that time, but it could be worth thinking about when it is just a $5000 investment.
If you were to add on elsewhere, I agree with AKV or BLT being good choices.

Unless you plan to add an additional resale home resort, I'd only do the same home resort/UY/Title in this situation anyway. The exceptions would be where you have a specific plan for the 25 pts and where it's not feasible to do so AND you don't really need the 25 pts at the home resort. I wouldn't let the end scare you, 25 pts that are good later aren't much good and might be a curse.

We do have two children DS 14 and DD 12. That is a good point about 25 being enough now, but not when they are grown and have families. We do want to look into getting annual passes in the future. We are doing it for the perks mostly. We also thought 11 booking would be nice at BLT, but staying with our home resort might be most beneficial in the long run.

If we end up getting the extra points at BLT. We would bank and borrow for a 3 night stay. We thought having an 11 month advantage during busy times such as Christmas or July 4 could be beneficial. The time of year we can visit is June, July and around Christmas/New Years, due to school schedules.

I had them put us on a wait list for BLT. We know they have BRV. We are still discussing it and appreciate everyone's input so far. Each time someone post something new it opens up a new discussion :)

BLT to BRV should be manageable if you do 1-2 nights on the front end of a trip, then move your stuff over to BRV for the remainder.
A word of caution: a BLT studio would not work with a 12 and 14 year old, plus 2 adults. Only plan for 1 BRs

We just did 25 at AKL, after a 100 point resale at GCV. We would absolutely have stuck with the Grand if points were available but there was no chance I was going to get the points before price increased (and the increase at the Grand is 50pp). It’s not enough to do much with, but we are much for frequent visitors to DL than to WDW. My plan is to keep my eye on 7 month availability at the Grand with the idea I could do a somewhat last minute trip if a rare vacancy popped up, or value studies at AKV occasionally. I imagine we will add on at AKV resale eventually as we love that resort.

BLT studios are quite small and that must be what you are thinking of with 25 points. Of course 3 nights isn't a long time but......they are small. I like them but for 1 or 2 people.
