Express Pass or no, MLK Weekend 2015??

First time and we (2 adults and a 9 yr old) are going to Universal and IOA the weekend of Martin Luther King Day, January 2015.

What are the crowds like, should we get the Express Pass?

Debating staying on property to take advantage of the hour early at Harry Potter too?

Worth the extra money?

I think staying on property is worth every penny. I won't go if I can't stay on property. I know I may sound like a snob, but I'm not. I have just seen how carefree EP is and the early entry. I would rather wait and save up enough to be able to stay on property.
