Explaining your love of Disney to a non-believer

I have finally just answered the inquiries about Disney with the simple line, "for me it is a daytrip to heaven on earth". :earsboy:

I just about gave up trying to explain the magic of Disney to those around me because to them Disney should be a one time thing. And no matter what I say or do to explain that you can never get tired of this magical place no matter how old you are....they still don't understand.

I have dreamed of WDW all my life, and visited for the first time with DH and 2DD,in 2002. I was 33 yo. I have vacationed to many places and nothing compares to a Disney vacation. It may be a little expensive but totally worth the expense. I knew I would be the type that would totally love Disney, I have this ability to be kid and forget all my adult responsibilities once I am there. Perhaps that is why I keep wanting to go back....to escape for a short time the adult world and be a kid again.

I don't bother explaining to anyone why I keep going back, They wouldn't get it anyways. Just like I don't ask them to explain why they chose their own vacation destination....

To each his own, just don't give me the LOOK....

I can totally relate. How many times has someone said "why do you go back to the same place on vacation every year? Don't you get tired seeing the same things? Doesn't it get boring doing the same things? Well that's the secret. A Disney vacation is never the same. Even if you always stay at the same resort, visit the same restaurants, ride the same rides, it is different everytime. Disney is somehow always magical. It cannot be explained to those who don't 'feel the magic' it just is. There are "millions" of tiny little ways to enjoy Disney and their are "millions' of us willing to do just that. I have just as much fun planning my trip as living it. I go other places on vacation, but my Disney ones are the best. So don't spend too much time trying to convert the "Why do you go back to Disney so much? people". Until they catch the magic, they will never understand it.

I read an excellent quote on these boards not so long ago that summed it all up.

"There are 2 kinds of people in this world - those who think Disneyworld is the best place on Earth and those who have never been."

Don't mean to be cynical, but there are plenty of folks who have "been" to Disney, but "just don't get it". More magic for the rest of us.

I don't even try to explain anymore. People who can't understand me are just going to accept that I love Disney and that I don't understand the appeal of skiing, or camping, or things like that.

Tough on them.

Relating here as well...But I am glad there are people who just don't get it like we do, otherwise we would have to be in line longer :teeth:

Disney World is my sanctuary! It helps keep my sanity! Just knowing I'm going again and again and again; that's all I need.

I love it...
2 types of people... disney people :wizard: princess: :earboy2:
and non disney people! :( :guilty:
How true is that!

I have just gotten used to people telling me that I need help for my "problem" :confused3
I just laugh anymore!

The other day a good friend of mine jokingly told me I needed to get therapy for my disney addiction!
I said, oh dont worry, I will be! I will be getting 2 full weeks of disney therapy in September! ;)
hahaa!
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
ROFLMAO!!!!!!
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I remember going to Disney every yr. during Easter. I think every yr. the trip going there seems a little bit longer, but when we would actually get to Fort Wilderness, I would get excited. I can't explain it, but I think all of you know what I mean. :)

I don't even try to explain anymore - you either get it, or you don't. My one obstacle is my husband, who is not as big a D-fan as I am. I usually go to WDW with a girlfriend, so I've never been to WDW with my husband. Maybe one day... Part of me doesn't want to go with him, in case he doesn't like it. I'd rather him be lukewarm about Disney, rather than dislike it outright. I'd hate to live my life knowing that I'm married to a non-believer!!!! :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2: :crazy2:

I remember about a week ago, I told my dad that I had spent all this money on a trip for my g/f's birthday to WDW, and he was upset that I spent so much money on something so temporary! But, about 2-3 days later he called me up, and apologized for being upset about spending such money, and said he was glad that I was using the money on things that were experience-driven and not something quick-and-trendy or something I would not get use out of again.

Plus,I think he realized how much I am drawn to WDW and probably should have seen that coming! Well hey, if you moved to downtown Chicago and sold your car, wouldn't you have done the same!? You're darn right!

As I say in my Signature........... You just cant explain it :confused3 ...but I am so gald to have found these boards where no one has to ,,WE ALL KNOW THAT FEELING!!!!..... :grouphug:

And I LOVE reading yor post YepsenCP..I can FEEL "it" in your words...
You HAVE the DISNEY MAGIC!!!!!! :wizard:

::MickeyMo Non-believers usually laugh at me or look at me like I have three heads. However, at one of my jobs (I have two along with 18 credits of college!) the assistant store manager and the inventory manager are in LOVE with Disney. It's fabulous. Last year my asst. store manager was there the same time as us and we met up. She'll be there the same time as us this year as well. Should be a blast! It's great meeting people who have the same enthusiasm as you do! ::MinnieMo

My theory about Disney Magic is, "If you get it, no explanation is needed. If you don't get it, no explanation will do."

I agree with above posters. It can't be explained. My wife had been to WDW before with her parents when she was younger. She didn't have much fun and neither did her parents.

Like a lot of people here, my family (god bless them) took yearly family trips to WDW. Over that time, you get better and better at planning, knowing your way around, etc.

Well, we took a family trip (My mother, father, brother and family, sister and family and my wife and daughter) in August of 03'. My wife was happy to go on vacation, but wasn't excited at all.

By the time the trip was over, she didn't want to leave. She couldn't believe how much of a difference there was on this and her past trip. She now tells everyone who is skeptical that you haven't experienced Disney unless you've done it "The Monroe" way.

As you know, the way is the energy, attitude, knowledge and passion you put into your trip. Most of us here on the boards have it. That's why we spend parts of our day contributing to this board.

Last year, my skeptical in-laws wanted to go with my wife and now two children. They were still skeptical from the last trip. They also had people telling them that they were going to be bored and wasting their money. They couldn't believe we were going to be there for 10 days!

After our trip my in-laws couldn't believe how much fun they had. Neither could the naysayers.

I'm convinced, the key to catching the WDW bug is related directly to 4 attributes: energy, attitude, knowledge and passion . Not everyone is fortunate enough to experience that.

My classmates don't get it either (I'm with the same 50 people all day long - have been for 3 years now.) I don't even try to explain it to them anymore. My family and I go each year... and each year, my friends think I'm nuts.

Funniest thing that someone said to me - giving me a hard time (this happened just a few weeks ago) "Mistie, you do know that Mickey Mouse isn't real, right?" I just laughed and replied, "yes, I know... that's why I like Snow White so much more!" That set everyone else laughing (good thing about my class... we were laughing together and no one is mean about it.)

It's ok... it's my thing... doesn't have to be their thing!!!

Wow, great line... And entirely true! I am hoping to get my g/f as hooked on The World as I am, as her first trip is coming up in June. I am afraid that she will be slightly dissapointed due to all the hype I put around it. But I suppose I will just take special care to deliver Energy, Attitude, Knowledge, and Passion, all of which I have for this amazing place!

Great post, amazingly well put CMonroe!

I don't think it's my business to make someone else "believe." I love Disney, but those who don't well that's totally their prerogative. My folks go to Biloxi almost every year. It's not my thing, but they love it. Totally their business.
