So can anyone give me more details on how charging to the room works? I have a significant amount of gift cards. And would it be easier to setup my magic band with a credit card but like every other day or so go to the front desk and pay the charges off? If my Disney Visa was my card attached my to band would I get a discount on merchandise or would the stores not know what type of CC was on the band? I'm just trying to figure out the best plan here.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Start out by going to disneygiftcard . com and combining all those gift cards. You can have up to five cards with $1000 on them.

I knew I could have $1000 on one gift card and I do plan on doing that.

would it be better to buy gift cards with my disney rewards dollars? I'm thinking yes because then my points or dollars never expire correct.

Easier? No. But there's no other way to charge back to your room with a MB and still ultimately pay with your GCs.

You only get the Disney Visa discount by showing it AND using it at the point of service. Attaching it to your room account won't be good enough.

Chase changed the TOS for the Dream Rewards Dollars program. The rewards card that you transfer your rewards dollars to no longer expires. So it is no longer necessary to purchase a GC in order to prevent losing them. However, being able to combine those rewards dollars with your other GCs isn't such a bad thing, so go ahead and order a GC with the rewards dollars and then combine it with your other GCs. It will be one less piece of plastic for you to carry.

It is possible (like 50/50 chance in my experience) that once you go to pay down your balance once, they will let you apply the whole amount of the GC and therefore have a credit.

What will you be buying? Food? Souvenirs?

Most places don't give you a food discount with the Disney visa, so that's easy to charge back to the room. The merchandise locations that do, it has to be a $50 minimum so anything less than that, charge back to the room.

I always try to have less in GCs than I actually think I will need, personally.

What I was told is that they run your card once you hit $500. Also make sure you pay your bill before midnight the last night you are there. I just asked for our total every couple days. Then paid it down as needed.

The dollar amount is dependent on the level of resort that you are staying in. And they've changed.
  • Values and Moderates: $1500 charge limit
  • Deluxe and DVC: $2000 charge limit
Something else to keep in mind is that Disney will run your CC thru during the night if you are close to that limit. They do it so that you don't get into the parks with no cash or CC and have your MB declined because you've reached your limit.

So if you put down a $1500 gift card for spending, they won't hit your visa until that money is gone?

You can't put down a $1500 GC. You can put your CC on your room account and then use the GC to pay your balance before it hits the limit. In some cases, and it should not be expected to work this way, the CM can leave the balance of the GC on your room account as a "credit" toward future purchases once you have paid down your balance once.

Ughh. Bummer. But you know I remember very well when I put down Disney Dollars on my room account in 2007 at ASSports. I hated having to hand those over. :headache:Things must have changed.

I charge most things to the room to pay off with my gift cards. The only time I skip the room charge and use my Disney Visa is if we are buying something expensive enough that it is really worth the discount to pay with it. You have to spend $50 at the retail stores before you get the 10% off.

I wonder when they will start allowing the application of gift cards to your room before you charge anything. I think you can do this on DCL, I even think you can do it even before your cruise date. I could see that being a great benefit to MDE, applying funds to your room account before you leave.

Also, can I pay off a room only reservation before I arrive at the resort?
