I have a vacation booked in May at BWV and we need to cancel our trip.
I am planning to rent the points.

I have 311 points, I can't be positive, but I think I borrowed about 25 points for this trip.
What are my restrictions regarding booking if I have to change the ressie for someone (versus just renting the existing ressie)

How does holding work? Do I have 30 days from date of our trip?

I have no desire to forfeit any of my points.
My UY is Sept, our trip is May 16-22

All points in the reservation will go into Holding if you cancel less than 31 days to check-in date but AT LEAST 1 day before check-in.

ALL points that go into Holding will need to be re-used in a new reservation that ends before your Use Year ends. Points that are in Holding can only be used to make a new reservation 60 days or less to the new check-in date you want at a DVC resort.

If you wanted to use Holding points for Disney Collection (except Disneyland resorts) or Concierge or Adventurer Collection the reservation cannot be made during last 4 months of Use Year but it could be made prior to last 4 mos of your UY for a check-in date that is 60 days or less away. So if you cancelled in May that would take this option away because there would be less than 4 months remaining in your Use Year.

So with your September UY you would have to re-use all the points that were committed to the May reservation for a stay that ends no later than Sept 1 2010 if you cancelled that May reservation from 30 days thru 1 day before May check-in date.

If you cancel a reservation on check-in date all points are forfeited.

If a reservation is cancelled 30 days or less before the arrival date, the points will be returned to your account as Holding Account points - which means they may only be used to make a reservation within 60 days of arrival. They cannot be banked.

Cancellation on arrival date forfeits the points.

As long as you cancel the reservation 31 days or more before the arrival date, the points returned to your account will have no restrictions and may be used for a reservation or banked (subject to normal banking rules and deadlines). If any borrowed points were used for the cancelled reservation, they will remain in the same Use Year into which they were borrowed and cannot be banked.

If possible, just be sure to cancel 31 days or more before arrival to maximize your options. With a September Use Year you cannot bank your points after April 30.

Good luck! :)
