I have seen alot of you post split stay.... I am very surprised by this because I would be so worried that it would take time out of my schedule to switch Resorts.
In short, it does take time, but it can be minimal. I am always keenly aware, personally, of the value of my vacation time. That's why we like CL.
IMO, certain quantities of time are more value than others. Specifically, 7am- about 10am is highly valuable. Getting to the parks early is valueable. I'm not gung ho to arrive before any park opens (Actually, I consider that wasted time. Waiting is waiting, IMO.) Rope Drop is somewhat overrated on the DIS. After dark hours are even more valuable, IMO. CL helps us take full advantage of morning hours.
One asset of CL, is quick access to breakfast. Guests lose a ton of time walking back and forth through the resort. I think that often gets ignored. Sure, we have done a the grocery store run/eat in our room...I like CL better. It's costs more that groceries, but it's more fun. I like eating off real dishes! I like real lattes! Ooh - Do be sure to find the hot beverage machine!
Advantage two is portion control. You sample food as you desire. Though that comes with a big warning- much of CL offerings are kind of junk/high calorie foods: cheese, white flour, fried potato, FRIED, sugar. Still, (esp with kids) if you want more milk, help yourself! Would love to see more healthy appetizers! Still, they have fresh fruit, and veggies! So we pile those on our plates. If 'dinner' is a burger, it's no big deal because we've already had a pile of healthy stuff.
Going back to the time, and kids, etc. At many mods, if you forget something like a jacket back in the room from breakfast- it's going to cost you 20min. Many CL's have good locations within that resort, and most deluxes are close to at least one park.
The downsides of CL...if you will- or at least a shift for us:
You have to go back to your hotel to get the appetizers and desserts. If you aren't used to mid day breaks, it can be tricky/time consuming. Desserts end at 10pm, so choose: dessert, or PM EMH. (every other/few days?)
The second downside, is you are stuck eating in one place. Most lounges are lovely, but it can get boring seeing the same scenery again and again. So that's one plus of split stays.
Which brings us back around to time! Splitting a stay means being close to a certain park. (BC to Epcot/HS, GF to MK)
Another option with split stays is saving $. One easy option is to stay at a value resort, or offsite (using points?) on your first night, then transfer in the morning for breakfast. The Hyatt at MCO is super easy if you have a late arrival or early departure. Roll out of bed and you're at MCO.
We can also eat a meal outside the WDW bubble. There are tons of options.
Split stays are also great if you desire to visit Diagon Alley! the beach! the Everglades! St. Augustine! Florida is much more than the Mouse!
