Experience w/ Delta Ticket prices for Easter?

I'm planning a trip for Easter 2008. Should I book as soon as dates are available or can I wait? I have never flown during major holidays and do not know what to expect.

I am looking myself for the Tuesday after Easter, to the Sunday after. Tickets will be on sale next week. I usually book one ways, to try & save on the fares.

I booked Tuesday morn 3/25/08 last eve with CO & got a great price going down. $59.00 each (one way)

Now I need to keep my eye on Sunday 3/30/08 I am sure we are going to pay alot more than 59.00 each!!!

I just checked the one way flight on Easter Sunday and it's $419!

by booking this early...especially w/ Delta they usually have quite a bit of schedule changes....

I don't like to book too early with them because even if they have a flight listed as non stop that doesn't mean it will be non stop then. Also... they've changed the flights by hours....

I'm more concerned with the price at this busy time of year than schedules. Do the prices go up quickly or can I afford to wait? Just out of curiosity I checked Christmas Flights and they were outrageous (in excess of $800 rt). Does the same thing happen to Easter prices?

Hi Wendy,

We only travel when it's the busiest time. Every year for the last 5 years we have travel on Presidents Week, Thanksgiving or Jersey week. I always try to book 330 days (1 year & one month) I usually always book one ways, & try to fly with Delta or AA or CO.

Delta does change there schedule a lot, and I watch usually once a week. If they change it more than 1 hour, they give me a choice of what time I would like. They have always gone out of there way to accommodate us. I usually pay in the ball park of $200.00 rt. non stop. I have never seen my flight go less than the price I paid, in the 5 years that I have traveled on these dates. I am afraid that if I wait, it is like playing Russian roulette.

This has just been "my" experience with traveling at the busiest times.

Maybe it's just my area but booking one ways on Delta is much more expensive than booking rt. My concern with booking so far in advance is that Delta tickets are only good for one year from the date of purchase.

That is the rule for all legacy airlines - RT tickets are almost always cheaper than booking 2 one way tickets.

I start checking as soon as vacation is approved at work for airfare and note that the rates change sometimes throughout the day. I've checked in the AM and get one rate and another rate in the PM. We sometimes leave on one airline and return on a different one or different airports. My advice is check and check and check and buy as soon as you get what you know is the cheapest rate your going to get.

This is my first Easter traveling. We have our fare down, we just need it to come home.

My question to you is, do you usually come home the Sunday after Easter? Who do you fly with for the $89.00 with? Thanks

Maybe I should move up north. You guys get much better rates. I still can't believe the one way price is over $400 for me. Ouch!
