Experience flying Song?

My partner and I are booked for our first ever trip to WDW for the end of January: 4 days on the Wonder and a few days at WDW (OKW Villas).

We are used to zipping down the freeway to DL at the drop of the hat for dinner at DCA's Vineyard Room, so flying cross-country for Disney seemed relatively expensive (we used to travel to England for less) - until we found Song. We booked non-stop flights for about $307 p/p, tax/fees included.

Has anyone had any experience with longer flights on Song? We frequently fly SWA within California, so are accustomed to less-than-posh planes, but have never been disappointed by the exchange of meals, for instance, for a better price.

I understand they have the nifty seat-back entertainment systems, fairly good seat pitch (32"-34" per seatguru - I can't post it as a URL yet), food can be pre-ordered from their website (we're flying late at night so I don't think that's going to be an issue), better departure times for our plans, non-stop flights, assigned seating, and a price that was 30% less than JetBlue (which we also like). Nor are we worried about Delta/Song during BK.

Just wondering what anyone's experience has been. Forewarned is forearmed!

I have flown Delta Song several times and have never had any problems. The little TV on the backs of everyone's seats is great! You get to chose your own entertainment wether it be movies, tv shows, music, card games. You don't have to pre order your meals. They have a menu on the plane that you can order from. Now you will have to pay for it seprate rather then having it as part of your flight and in cost of ticket. Hope this info helps!

I've flown Song from Boston to Las Vegas a couple of times, and Boston to Orlando several times (now, there's a surprise!) and have had no problem - well, except paying for my last flight, but that's a whole other story... :
Anyway, the food's good - you may want breakfast, depending what time your flight arrives and if they loaded any, but at least the snack food will be available, or of course you can bring your own food. The seat pitch is GREAT. Do you ever try booking a window and an aisle seat, in the hopes that nobody will want the middle seat and you get the row to yourselves? Worst case, one of you would end up switching seats with that person.
Everybody gets headphones - to keep - and grab blankets as you board. Service is good, but the crew isn't as funny as Southwest or JetBlue. But the seatback entertainment is great. For $5, you can play Texas Hold 'em all night as long as at least one other passenger is playing (i.e. not against the computer) or trivia or a variety of video games - the trivia's free, the games are $5 as are an assortment of movies, but DirectTV regular programming is free.

My family (2A, 1 5yr. old) flew Song in Jan. from LAX to MCO. We loved the airline and the plane! Yes, there is onboard entertainment systems in the seat backs in front of you. Lots of things to watch HDTV, Discovery, NBC and even pay for movies or games. I played the free trivia game for hours. My daughter and I got a "kick" out of the women's voice who did the recorded announcements. Very soothing. She still talks about it 9 months later. The sell food on board. Sodas are free. You can bring on your own food. We also loved the direct flight and seat assignments.

The only problem we had was we decided to take the redeye leaving at about 10 p.m. and arriving, I think, about 6 a.m. e.s.t. I thought we would sleep on the plane-No-we didn't. My mom and I napped for about 1/2 hr. My DD maybe 1 to 1 1/2 hrs. We picked that flight instead of the 10 a.m. due to the price. The tix were $89 one way. Beat SW by $10! The lack of sleep really wiped us out for the first day at WDW. Spent first few hours in our rooms sleeping. We were able to check-in our room at POP early, about 7 a.m. though.

We decided against Song this time only because of our distance from LAX. We live in Corona and we had to leave about 3 hrs. before our flight due to the drive (1 1/2 hrs), parking, and shuttle. So if we added the extra 3 hrs. to our flight time, plus the expense of long term parking, we decided to fly with a change of planes.We live only about 1/2 from Ontario-which is a great airport! We are flying Delta from ONT with a change in ATL. We paid about $300 rt. this time.

You'll love Song-we did! Only hope they add some flights from ONT soon. I also am not worried about BK (ok-just a little-we leave tommorrow early a.m.)

Less than 24 hours and counting!!!!!!!!!

we flew Song from BOS to MCO a few weeks ago and loved it!! The tv's in the seat backs are wonderful....never had any trouble keeping the kids entertained for the whole flight and the ability to purchase snacks was great!!

I ordered a movie and a game on our flight home ($5.00 each) but I have yet to see the charge show up on my cc statement. Anyone know how long it would take for the charge to show??

Thanks, everyone for your notes. We're pretty easy-going travellers (it takes a lot to make us grumpy), but after reading comments on another thread that were distinctly anti-Song, it seemed wise to put a feeler out there for others who had flown the airline. Nice to hear that most of your experiences were good ones.

Thanks especially, Disneydaz - hearing what it was like flying the same route on the same flight was reassuring. We go directly from MCO to the Wonder and don't sleep particularly well on a plane, either. Perhaps we can nap standing up waiting to board the ship? At least embarkation day is an easy one.

We chose the red-eye flight not only for the price but the timing (downtime (pm) spent traveling instead of using daylight hours to maximize our vacation days), travel Saturday night for a Sunday sailing to avoid using higher points at OKW for a weekend night, et cetera.

Guess all we need now is to add a ticker to our signature block.

Thanks for all the info, y'all! We're definitely looking forward to this event (cruise/WDW) and while Marc doesn't sleep well on planes, I do! I'll be the one propping him up at the port that Sunday a.m! Now, at the end of the week I'm sure I'll be the one needing propping up!

I love Song, but a few things to consider on coast to coast Song flights:

1) The seats are spacious compared to most carriers coach class, but I find the padding a bit thin for longer flights. You'd never notice this on a NYC to MCO or BOS to MCO flight as it's only in the air for 2.5 hours or less. On a coast to coast flight you'll begin to feel the thin padding after 3 hours.

2) One of your flights will most likely be a redeye. Two downsides to this are that the satellite TV has mostly infomercials from 1 am to 10 am, so don't expect much visual entertainment except maybe ESPN and the news channels. The MP3 playlist is great though if you just want to listen to tunes. The second downside is that you only get a small blanket and that doesn't give you much comfort for your head when sleeping. Invest in a good U shaped pillow plus maybe a second inflatable one to give you some headrest options.

Song is still my favorite low fare option and a lot of what I said for Song is true for JetBlue as well from my trips from Boston to OC and back.

Just got back from LAX/JFK. The flights were great and the food is pretty good. This was the first time we had not flown them NY/FL. I did not notice the seats to be thin. They do give out blankets when you board and they do NOT have pillows. We have flown them a total of 10 times in the past few years.
