This is for parents who are considering taking their children on Exedition Everest.

I had the privelege of riding Everest on Saturday. First of all I want to say I loved this coaster. The view from the coaster is spectacular! It wasn't so much a thrill coaster. It was more like Big Thunder Mountain meets Test Track while going backwards.

However, I have some concerns for kids. I'm an adult, but I'm only 4'11''. I pulled the lap bar down as far as it would go. (But I felt like it should have gone down further. If i had wanted to, I could have easily gotten out of the seat.) I found myself sliding side to side in the seat around the turns. My son and I sat in the 4th row and we found the ride to be very smooth. The first time my son rode it, he sat towards the back with his dad. He said it was more jerky in the back. My son is afraid of heights. He had a very difficult time with the height of Everest. He said the backwards part, the speed, the turns were no problem. However, looking down at the big drop made him panic. He was never so scared. He rode it twice and twice he said he felt the panic. He said he's sure it was the view.

Most of the ride is in the dark and it is backwards. It accelerates to a pretty good speed, then stops. A child must look up and to the right to see Yeti. I almost missed him.

On a thrill factor I'd rate Everest way less than Rock N Roller, but higher than Big Thunder MT.

Thanks for the review!

Do you happen to know what the height restriction is? What age do you feel it is appropriate for? I know that it varies per kid but my kids are on the tall side so they often meet the height requirements for rides that they really shouldn't be riding.

Any child who loves to go fast, isn't afraid of the dark, and can't wait to go backwards. I'm going again on Friday. I'll check the height requirement if someone else doesn't post before that.

how are the seats for larger riders? enough room, would you say? Hopefully there is enough for a large person and a child.

Have they announced an opening date for Everest yet. Just hoping that we'll make it on our trip in March/April. :wave2:

The seats are pretty wide. Each person has their own lap bar. There is a divider between each seat, so a child could sit beside an adult.

Handicap seating is in the back of the train. I was only able to look briefly, but those seats looked larger. I'll look better next time.

I heard April.

Taking DS9 and DS6 next week and I was wondering how they would handle it. They have both done RR so expect they will be okay. thanks for posting!

Thanks for this post.. we were considering getting daddy a one day park HOPPER instead of just a one day ticket (we all have longer tickets- we know we'll be going more often than DH LOL) and going to MK but hopping over to AK to ride this... I think we'll pass and do it on our next trip. eh I hate the backwards business.... I don't know why but I just don't like rollercoasters that go backwards. Something about your hair flying forward to cover your face doesn't appeal to me as much as the thrills of going FORWARD and able to see what's coming/see around you. Backwards stinks. :(
