Expedition Everest Question

We were just in the parks over Presidents' Week and for the first time we rode Expedition Everest and loved it. However, I was a little puzzled about something.

I remembered some time ago seeing a show on television about Disney in which they featured some of the thrill rides, one of them being EE. They made sure to mention the fact that at the end, the Yeti was the last thing you saw and how real he looked (animatronic figure) and they showed this on this special.

Fast forward several months to our trip, when we finally rode EE I was excited to see this life-like animatronic Yeti at the end of the right...but either I was too excited about riding or he was not there any longer! I did see the Yeti on the screen (the animated one) but at the end of the ride I was sort of disappointed. Did I just miss something really huge? or has this animatron been taken out?

P.S. I saw saw that same show again today and once again I saw this huge animatron which is what prompted me to write this today.

I haven't been there since June last year but he was still there at that time. It does flash by pretty fast toward the end of the ride. I wouldn't say it is the very last thing but probably pretty close. He is king of above your head like he is foig to reach down and grab you. If I remember there are strobe lights flashing on him. It could have been down when you were there. Hard to say.

If I remember correctly the Yeti is more towards the middle of the ride when you start going backwards. You have to look up to see him....and you don't have much time.

Yes, Yeti used to swipe at you - it was all very exciting..but that was many - many moons ago. His enormous arm was too strssful on the foundation supporting him and he broke..now he just stares at you in between the strobes of light as you whip past him st lightning speed - hard to see him at all these days.
Evidently, fixing him would be a very big undertaking and would shut down the ride for a long time, something Disney is reluctant to do.

we were just there ub Sept of 09 and he still wasn't working although a CM mentioned that they were fixing him.

Yeah, he used to be amazing. Even though you only saw him for like 4 seconds, it was still something to look forward to during the ride. What I've heard from various sources is that the foundation he sits on is cracking and will not support him while he moves. The only way to fix him is to take the ride down, which Disney won't be doing. So you barely see him at all now.

When you do see him, it's near the end of the ride. Well after the biggest drop, at the top of the last drop. The exposure is VERY short, and easy to miss - especially if you are not sitting in the front seats.

Also, I have heard - though not seen myself - periodically there is no light on him at all- so it's possible that's what happened.

The Yeti is at the point in the ride just before you go outside the mountain down the big hill. Sadly the Yeti hasn't been working properly for quite some time now (2 years, maybe more??) There is an issue with the support structure for the animatronic and the movement of the arm swiping down being too stressful. Reports are that the entire ride would need to be down for quite some time in order to fix this, which is likely why it hasn't happened yet. Sometimes there are strobe lights on the Yeti, but there are reports that sometimes that's not working either. If that were the case it would be tough to notice anything.

So far Disney has not announced any plans to restore the Yeti to fully working order. :sad2:

My guess is that Disney is reluctant to refurb EE because its a huge selling point of DAK and that, for many people, DAK is a 1-ride park (which I think is crazy, because there's tons to do there). Taking down that 1 ride for an extended time would severely diminish attendance

yeti is there, you missed him.

This is incorrect. The *animated* yeti is seen onscreen just before you go outside and down the big hill. The giant animatronic yeti is at the very end of the ride, as you go under her you can see the station in front of you.

You're right - my apologies. I forgot the big hill is before the last drop out of the mountain.

Clearly I need to get back to EE as soon as possible to "refresh my memory" :sulley:

I first rode Expedition Everest during the passholder preview days,I'm not sure if the first time I rode it the Yeti was working or just had the strobe lights on him, whatever it was I totally missed him on my first ride.it's sad that it runs so often now with just the strobe lights.

i was just there a few days ago and saw him but he would be very easy to miss if you blinked, lol.
