Expedition Everest Closing for Refurb Early 2022

Why is the yeti broken for so long?????

Also there are plenty of other things to do:

tough to be a bug
Festival of the lion king
Bird show
Animals to look out I can easily stretch it to a whole day park now

Why is the yeti broken for so long?????
As Joe Rohde explained it long ago, the yeti is one structure. It's inside the track, which is another separate structure. Both of them are inside the mountain, which is a third separate structure. In order to fix the crack in the yeti's base (which is why they can't let it swing its arm at you, because it might break completely and fall on someone), they would have to dismantle the mountain and the track to get to the base. The engineers didn't calculate the forces correctly and didn't make the base strong enough.

that’s incredible thanks for that anewer! You think this is the time to fix it?

I wish they would - we rode it several times with the original motion, and it was awsome! That said, I don't know that this refurb is actually long enough for that, and I've read elsewhere that they're redoing the controls, not the yeti.

. The engineers didn't calculate the forces correctly and didn't make the base strong enough.
from what I herd that isn'st exatly true. The concret base cracked becuse of excess force but it was becuse the hydrylics that werr used for the yeti wern't installed properly and wern't lubrictaed properly and they eventuly seized up. Before it was known waht the porblem was a carck in the concrete formed

Taking it down for a lengthy refurb during the 50th celebration in a park hurting for ride capacity when they could have done so during the pandemic?

Ridiculous.
They may not have been able to schedule it then. Something that gets said a lot by the local public transit system in Toronto when they close part of the subway system "there is no good time to close the subway it will always inconvenience someone."

That's what I had read as well. It seems reasonable as to why they can't fix the Yeti.
I thought that I had read that it wasn't an engineering miscalculation, but that the concrete base wasn't mixed correctly and was to weak. Either way, you have the same result.

Love Animal Kingdom & love Expedition Everest. This sucks for my late March spring break trip, but will still enjoy the park.

My only question is...will ANYONE buy the Genie+ for AK while Everest is down? You would essentially be paying $60 for a family of 4 for quicker access to Navi, Kali & Dinosaur?

This just took us right out of 'might as well add it to the package to make it easier'. We already changed resorts since the skyliner is going to be down our week, now the best ride at AK is out...what's next?

Agreed. And even as a free Fastpass, Navi wasn't worth it.

To each their own, we loooove Navi.

I wouldn't say I love it, but it does get overly criticized. I think it could use jsut a little something more, like maybe some animatronics of some of the animals, like the panther creature. There are are areas where they could be incorporated easily. I think with that, I would definitely love it - but I do like it. It's not worth the sometimes very long wait, but with an FP, sure, absolutely.

Yea, this announcement is a surprise and a major disappointment for our upcoming winter trips. EE is one of our favorites and a must-do each trip. But with everything else going on and with the postponements we needed to make over the past 18 months, we'll manage without EE this trip and catch the new and refurbed version later. But it really is going to bump up the lines on other things there - Safari, Dinosaur, etc. Not sure if G+ would be a waste for the day at AK, or perhaps a good thing to have. Dangit - going to miss EE....!

This makes me so sad. We had to cancel our summer trip and I was really excited to ride this when we rescheduled for Feb. Disney is a once-every-few-years type of vacation for us.
