Expedition Everest Closing for Refurb Early 2022

The Yeti will not be fixed. In order to fix it they need to open up the mountain and take probably a year or more. The Yeti will probably never move again.

This is a big let-down for my early March 22 trip. This has firmly cemented AK as a half day park. I generally ride EE multiple times a day.

There are ways or could be done without opening up the entire mountain. You just have to think out-of-the-box and be a good mechanical/structural engineer. Almost any obstacle can be overcome given the right technology and engineer (some money usually helps also).

Love Animal Kingdom & love Expedition Everest. This sucks for my late March spring break trip, but will still enjoy the park.

My only question is...will ANYONE buy the Genie+ for AK while Everest is down? You would essentially be paying $60 for a family of 4 for quicker access to Navi, Kali & Dinosaur?

is FoP not in genie+? I'd pay $15 for that if the line was 2+ hours

is there a source that says it will take a year? I know they've said long time

FoP will most likely be 1 of the 2 attractions at AK that is an Individually Priced Lightning Lane attraction, it isn't confirmed yet - but the rumor is 2 rides per park are not included in Genie+.

The other is rumored to be Kilimanjaro Safari at AK.

The good news is that you'll get to pay ~$15 for FoP. The bad news is that won't get you Genie+ or any other rides!

Personally, I'm good with dropping $60 for my family for Magic Kingdom, given that we'll likely save hours on lines, even if just on mid-level attractions...we'll make waiting for the headliners a bit easier.

As for FoP, I'll do it in 1 of 2 ways. Either rope drop & get it out of the way. Or, wait until the evening, grab me a beer from the nearby QS, and enjoy evening Pandora and the queue experience. If you can catch the queue at least starting on the right side of the walkway, its not all bad due to going thru a variety of different rooms with different ambiences and things to look at.

I thought the official list was already out? Maybe I read something unofficial and just thought it was. But whatever I saw showed the two you call out.

The Yeti animatronic framing split in just 6 months of use. The major problems are it is 40 feet up in the air in a finished show building. Joe Rohde had promised to fix it and he stated that they are always looking for ways to fix it, but it’s is extremely hard to fix. Now that Joe has retired, will it ever happen? In order for it to work it needs a lot of structural upgrades to happen. Sad to say that WDW doesn’t want to shut down a $100,000,000 ride that is in very high demand for an extended period of time. It would be great if they could fix it in this down time.

Nothing official, all just speculation and rumors. Some blogs like to make rumors look like facts.

Taking it down for a lengthy refurb during the 50th celebration in a park hurting for ride capacity when they could have done so during the pandemic?

Ridiculous.
They were losing billions of dollars and many lost their jobs. They halted construction on so many of their projects. Additionally, this issue probably isn't at the top of their priority list, especially in the midst of a global pandemic.

Might as well shutdown Dinoland as well, bulldoze it and get Zootopia in there with expansion of 3 or 4 more rides.

We're going in early May and now I'm kinda worried. "Late April" can easily bleed into May.

It's my favorite AK ride after FoP

Everyone's all wondering if they are going to fix the Yeti..... and I'm over here wondering if they'll clean up all the hair ties at the top of the mountain :rolleyes1

During the shutdown in 2020 they did remove a lot of the hair ties but shortly after re-opening there were lots of hair ties there again :)

Do you think this means they'll figure out how to get the Yeti to work again without cracking the structure???? I've never seen it move!
