Expedition Everest Challenge May 5 @ 9:30 2012

I just noticed that they changed some of the wording on the race website regarding waivers...it now says they will be available 2 weeks before the race. It said one month just a few days ago when I emailed to ask about it...I wonder why they are now waiting until that close to the race to make those available?

Perhaps they feel a smaller number of participants equals less time needed? Doesn't make sense to me though.

hmmm, ya, that's interesting. I hope they DO get them all sent the full 2 weeks before then so I can have mine ready. We leave 9 days before the race.

I wonder why nobody else has gotten their emails yet???? That's strange that only one has recieved it and that's it.

Good Luck at the race debbieandroo!

Good luck tonight!

Thank y'all so much - I really need it! After making it through the winter and spring with very few allergy problems, it looks as if I've been hit with something today - congested, a little fever-y, all around blah. The last thing I want to do is run a 5K. But that means that I really need to run it now, right? The worst case scenario is that I would walk the entire race, and I can do that, right? [trying to convince myself not to bail out].

I'll probably have a blast - this is probably more pre-race jitters than anything else. Hope to give a great report later tonight.

YES!!! :cheer2: You've got this  Sending lots of good racing wishes!

I AGREE totally!!! YOU GO GIRL :cool1:

If you walk lots so what - it's better than sitting on the couch right? :) Its a WHOLE lot better to go and walk the whole thing if you have to rather than do nothing.

I will be thinking of you and sending lots of pixie dust your way... pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

This is what was on Jeff Galloway's Facebook page today: The most exhilarating runs are often on the stressed-out days when we don't want to run.

So true!

Y'all are so sweet - I just love this thread! Thank you for the encouragement...I thought a lot about JG's three rules for running. I did manage to do two [finish and finish upright] but that third one - be excited to run another race? Right now, I'm not sure about that one!

With me being kinda congested today and the weather becoming more humid, even more than yesterday, I had a really difficult time breathing. I started out running/walking one minute intervals but never felt as if I could recover well enough to start running again. So, after a mile and a half, I just started walking and my breathing got much better.

My goal for this was to finish in less than 50 minutes - my time was 51:12 for 3.26 miles [hey, gotta get credit for that extra .16 mile, right?] I felt as if I had been on that race for an hour and 51 minutes so was pleasantly surprised at my time. I also found out that my first mile was my best at 15:00 minutes - I truly felt as if I was going so slowly. Strange how perception and reality can be so far apart.

Anyway, it was great race, benefiting children with autism - lots of families were there. I kept trying to pass the two women who were just chatting away, as if they were on a stroll in the park. I think I managed that much. But the stroller people zoomed past me, along with the three ladies who told me, 'wow, we just signed up today and have never jogged before.' :headache: Oh well...maybe I can beat them next year!

I guess the thing that bothered me most was that I wasn't that comfortable running...it really tired me out and I've been working on this distance for several weeks now. I had to default to walking to get 'back in the game.'

Lastly, I did experiment with my eating and it worked! I had a bagel with peanut butter and banana around 3:00. The race started at 7 and, while my knees were really upset with me, my tummy was not. And I wasn't even hungry. I think I'll do this same thing for the EEC.

Thank you again everyone for your support. I can't wait to meet y'all! Three weeks!

 Thank you, Kim! A couple of hours later, I am glad I did it, despite what my knee is telling me right now. All I could think about on the way home was telling all my new running buddies because you'd understand. Thank you again and again for your support!

Congrats! You may not be excited now, but after your accomplishment settles in you'll think 'That wasn't that bad. And I can probably go a little faster if I train just a little more.' And you'll find yourself looking to see what other races are coming up! :thumbsup2

Congratulations! You have one under your belt.
That's my biggest worry I think - is how the warmer, more humid weather will affect my running. It's not warm and not humid this time of year here. :)

Congratulations on finishing!! :banana::cool1::yay::cheer2:

I think your time was excellent, and I'm glad you are proud of yourself!! Three weeks from today, you'll be at it again!

I've got my long run today, so I'll probably try to do another 5K. When I went to the allergist the other day, she gave me the green light to train outside!! I figure I'll go to the track at my school, since the hills in my neighborhood are horrible.

Cripey - Did you do your 10K yet? How was it???

Good job, debbieandroo! :thumbsup2

I'm in the last two weeks of the Biggest Loser at my gym and I've had so much trouble getting the weight to come off - even though I've been doing 3 bootcamps, 2 spin classes and 2 trainer sessions a week! :faint: - that now my trainer has me doing heavier weight lifting and stair climbing, but not much running.

So I guess I may not be able to worry too much about my time for the EEC; just do the best I can, have fun, not get swept and party like an animal after the race! :tigger:

I would have posted last night, but the boards were down forever.

DH and I went to my college's track and did our long runs. (He's still doing C25K). I finished 3.43 miles in 49:42!! My average pace was 14'27" per mile -about a minute less than my treadmill time!!

I was pretty exhausted afterwards, and DH was even more worn out. He had spent the day at Steeplechase with his photo buddy taking pictures. One of his friends there had worn a pedometer and had walked about 5 miles, and DH said that he had walked around a lot more than that guy, maybe a total of 7 miles. And he had been up since 5AM. I'm so proud of him!!

My legs are definitely feeling it today, so I will happily sit at my computer and work on homework today.

It went pretty good, thanks for asking :). The course was soooo hilly! I don't have anywhere near me to train on hilly terrain, but since most of my boot camp class signed up for this as well as our instructor, she had us doing a lot of hill work in class the last couple of months so I imagine that helped us a lot, but it was still definitely a challenge! It was super windy too, which wasn't fun! The race started around 8:30 and it definitely started to get a little warm...but it was nice to see water stops at every mile...a few of those got poured down my back and arms :). The course itself was really nice...the race was in a really pretty rural town so lots of farms and pretty scenery. I saw one runDisney shirt and one Princess Half shirt too! I ended up coming in at 1:14:58... Not my best 10 k time, but I'm pleased with it knowing how much of a challenge all the hills were for me. I was able to stick to my normal run 1 mile/ walk for 100 steps intervals and I really pushed myself to attack the hills. And there was all you can eat ice cream at the end!!!!! My calves are yelling at me today...but I have a massage appointment in a couple of hours so hopefully they can work that out.

Cripey - great job on your 10K - you met the challenge and tasted the sweet reward. ;)

KigerKat - Wow! Love the effects on that photo - beautiful! :thumbsup2
