Expedition Everest Challenge May 5 @ 9:30 2012

Hey Kiger - is your DH running? b/c I bet my DH would love to meet up with your DH and do photo talk and take pics!!!!

This year of Disney runs was actually his idea, so he will most definitely be there!

Well, maybe after at the little meet for a photo they can talk cameras :)

All of you are doing so well - so proud of ya!

On Friday - I injured my lower back in the strangest of ways - leaning against the handicap bar in the bathroom and trying to change clothes and not putting my foot down on the floor. Gosh do I feel old!! So, here I am day 3 of this and I really need to get back in the gym!

oh no!!!! Wishing you some really speedy healing! Not good timing at all hey??

I guess the thing that bothered me most was that I wasn't that comfortable running...it really tired me out and I've been working on this distance for several weeks now. I had to default to walking to get 'back in the game.'
BUT - you finished! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: You weren't feeling great, but you got out there and gave it what you had; there is nothing but greatness in that feat. Congratulations!!! :thumbsup2

That's my biggest worry I think - is how the warmer, more humid weather will affect my running.
I'm not gonna lie - it slows things down, in my experience anyway. :sad1:

I'm in the last two weeks of the Biggest Loser at my gym and I've had so much trouble getting the weight to come off - even though I've been doing 3 bootcamps, 2 spin classes and 2 trainer sessions a week! :faint: - that now my trainer has me doing heavier weight lifting and stair climbing, but not much running.
I have about 7 pounds left to lose and came to an absolute standstill when my running miles started going up. Post-EEC, I may take a few weeks doing less mileage and more dieting before starting in on the TOT 10-Miler training.

DH and I went to my college's track and did our long runs. (He's still doing C25K). I finished 3.43 miles in 49:42!! My average pace was 14'27" per mile -about a minute less than my treadmill time!!
Fantastic! :cool1:

The course was soooo hilly! I don't have anywhere near me to train on hilly terrain, but since most of my boot camp class signed up for this as well as our instructor, she had us doing a lot of hill work in class the last couple of months so I imagine that helped us a lot, but it was still definitely a challenge! It was super windy too, which wasn't fun!
Oy, hilly AND wind?! :scared: WTG on getting that one done! :cheer2:

Here's another pic that DH took last year at AK. Just wanted to offer up a little fun to get you excited! We are technically less than three weeks away!

Oh no! Hope you heal quickly and easily.

Training is going good :)

I have kicked it up a notch and last week I did...

5K with 1 incline
5K with 1 incline
2.5K with 1.5 incline

That's a good week of jogging for me :)

I hope to keep that up for the next week and a half and then maybe just fit in 2 smaller jogs the week of the race b/c I'll be busy walking and theme parking that week so it'll count for my slow down week.

Morning! I can't believe we're less than 3 weeks away already :hyper:

My DS, Leo, and I ran a 5K Saturday, turning in a 43:59. The full recap is here, if anyone's interested: Turtle Trot 5K Leo took lots of time off of his Tangled 5K, but we weren't anywhere near our usual pace. I don't think he's a morning runner, lol! He's always happier doing our training later in the evening, so I'm still hopeful for a better time at the EEC.

My stupid left ankle and calf are driving me nuts; that whole area keeps getting tight, which then creates shin splints. I've been icing, heating, rolling with a rolling pin, wearing compression sleeves - it all seems to help, along with new shoes with a less stability in them, but I'd like it to stop altogether. Anyone else dealt with this ailment?

When I signed up for EEC with a teammate I had visions of training hard and changing my life to tackle my first 5K. Here I am less then 3 weeks away and I have to be about the laziest POS I know right now :( I am very upset that I have not been able to get my **** in gear and do the training like I know i should have .
I think I am more upset on dragging down my partner who has trained her hardest for this race and has even entered the ToT 10 miler...(which I was smart enough not to sign up for, but will be there to cheer her on)

will I be able to run/walk it? Or should i back out now or just go for it? :confused3

Please Dis friends HELP ME!!

No, not good timing - but at least I have time to get better. Just takes training time away as I give myself a chance to heal.
Thanks for the encouraging words! Tonight I will be putting a heating pad on and taking it easy. Tomorrow I have my bible study group, but I may bring my tennis shoes to work to do some walking around the building at lunch.
Crazy thing is - I feel better when I am standing and walking than when I am sitting down - oh and the in between, getting up and sitting down - that is the worst! :faint:

TinkTink - don't give up! You have a couple of weeks to get your booty moving! You can walk the thing, and I am sure you friend just wants to do the event with you.... If you are trully worried about slowing her down, could you contact runDisney about running as individuals? Just a thought....

Looks great! How's the weather lately up there?

You're already registered, right? So why be out that money for no reason? I say give it a try and see how it goes! Is your partner willing to slow down or wait for you at the end? Either way, you'd still be doing the scavenger hunt and after-party together. :thumbsup2

Ugh, that's got muscle pull written all over it! I'm betting walking and standing keeps it limber, while sitting lets it stiffen and getting up and sitting down pulls on it. There's just no way to immobilize those darned back muscles. :sad2: How 'bout a back brace, or even a big Ace bandage to give a little outside support while it heals?

Good idea!

Read it and commented :) Good job you two!!! My calfs have been a bit stiff lately too - I tend to remember to stretch other parts but forget my calf. My favorite stretch is to stand on a step and drop my heels off the edge of it. SUUUUCH a good stretch in there. I'll have to make a point of doing it more often so I don't end up with problems and shin splints. I hope you work it out soon.

Please Dis friends HELP ME!!

You can DO IT Tink Tink. I agree that it's not worth losing the money over it. I find the biggest help for me (b/c I SUCK at motivation too) is when I don't really feel like doing a jog I tell myself to at least get out and try to do a shorter one and see how I'm doing from there. Often I'll just be able to push through - sometimes it just ends up being a shorter run but even if it's a shorter one it's better than nothing and being consisten with your jogging will help in the end to train your body for it.
I also find that you NEED something to keep you happy. If your bored - do another route, if your inside on the treadmill DON"T do the same thing over and over. I get bored easily and find that flipping from one way of doing it to another really helps to keep me more on track and not bored, or some REALLY good music to listen to - that helps as well. Maybe you need to reward yourself with something?? What would you really like to get? maybe set a goal if you do this many jogs/week for this many weeks you reward yourself with it.

Good Luck!!! i hope you stick with it :)

The weather is AWEFUL here again :( So still no outside running. I was able to squeeze in about a 30 minute sit in the sun on Saturday b/c it got up to 16C (60.8F) but it was a busy day so I didn't have much time and I only did it to get my skin used to sun. The clouds came quickly making it cooler so it didn't last long and it wasn't warm enough in the morning to run outside. The way I see it is that at least I'm leaving for much hotter temps NEXT WEEK!!!! yipppeeeee!!!

Finally got a good run in :cool1: after several weeks of subpar ones.. Not near as good time wise as I hope to be but just glad to be heading in the right direction again...

That's a great time for you and your son!! I've had problems with my right ankle, but it seems to be slowly getting better the more I run. Honestly, I think I just have weak ankles from not being a runner. But I'm getting there!!

You will be able to do it!! The entry fee is non-refundable, so why not give it a try? You can still get some good practice runs in before then! I would try to maybe do at least one 5K before you leave for WDW, and maybe about 5-6 20 minute walk/runs in between.

I know a lot of us here are a bit confused about how the obstacles and scavenger hunt clues will happen this year, because they sound like they are throughout the run, instead of separate from it. If that's the case, then I highly doubt they will enforce a run time limit, since so many people will be stuck trying to figure out the clues.

Whatever you do, don't back out! Join us and have some fun with it!! You CAN do it!!

Okay, the next 9 days will be the death of me!! :scared1:

I'm a full time college student (at 35 years old) and I work part time at a day care in the potty training room. I'm majoring in education, and I am up to my ears in lesson plans!! Why did I wait until the last minute to finish these up?!?!

And for some reason, I volunteered to work a full day tomorrow and make cake pops for Bunco on Thursday night. I managed to get my run in today (thank God!), but I might be pushing it on Wednesday.

My last day of class is next Wednesday, and I still have another major project to do before then where I transcribe an hour of audio between myself and an English Language Learner. I've transcribed before, and it takes FOREVER.

And I still don't have a good sports bra.

Okay, thank you for letting me vent for a bit. At least I have a GREAT trip to look forward to after finals!!

:listen: We're always here with an ear...or a shoulder! ;) :goodvibes

does anyone wear a small gear belt that they really love and would recommend? I've heard of the SPI belts, but that's really the only brand I can think of off the top of my head. Are there any other good ones? I want to wear something for EE to hold a small camera since I'm not planning on wearing a water belt. It's my teammate's first race ever so I would like to be able to get lots of pics before, after and maybe during the race so I really want to bring my camera...and I REALLY don't want to have to try to hold it in my hand. So what are some other good, small gear belts that you have tried?

Um, just reading your post left me exhausted - I can't imagine actually doing all of that! :faint: Wait - yes I can... just finished my degree at 41, working, too, in Dec. 2011, so I totally get where you're at. Hang in there - it'll all get done and be worth it in the end!

Yes! I bought mine for the exact same reason - to hold a small camera on Disney runs. It's the Amphipod Race-Lite Go:

AMP102-BK

Size-wise, my iPhone fits in it perfectly, as does my little camera (not together at once - one or the other.) Bonus - it also holds a race bib. Very comfy, no poky or rough parts at all and super lightweight. If it's not holding a camera, I throw keys and fuel in there.

Oh, I am actually feeling much better on the back today. I am not going to push myself, and am still taking today off from exercising. I may do some mall walking before bible study tonight. Tomorrow I have a sports massage scheduled and hope that helps as well. Then, gym on Thursday - but will forcus on cardio instead of any weight lifting.

Thanks for the thoughts - I am trying to make sure I sit up straight while I am at the computer - I have a very sedintary (sp?) job, so I make sure I stand up every once in awhile!

Oh my goodness....we are getting so close! I must finish my shirt this weekend - yes, I am making a team shirt for myself! I love my idea - I hope it comes out like I picture in my head! I also hope I get the bondibands I ordered - thanks for that idea!!
I also ordered some new sunglasses and hope those come in before my trip! Oh, I am worried about packing - I suck at packing!!!
