Expectant Mothers Should Not Ride

Hello all - I've been scouring the boards for months in preparation for our trip next week (Fri 1/11 - Wed 1/16) - thanks for all the advice so far!

Of course, when we began planning this trip (for me, my husband, our almost-4-yr-old son, and my BIL), I didn't know that, by the time it actually rolled around, I would be 16 weeks pregnant!

My OB has assured me she's comfortable with me going on any attraction that doesn't have the "Expectant Mothers Should Not Ride" warning attached to it. The one thing I haven't been able to find anywhere, though, is a definitive list of which attractions those are! I just want to be prepared so I'm not surprised/disappointed when I can't go on something.

I've patched together a list of my own, which I hope will be helpful for anyone else seeking the same info - if anyone knows of any attractions that do have the warning that are not included here, please let me know!

Autopia
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
California Screamin'
Gadget's Go Coaster
Goofy's Sky School
Grizzly River Run
Indiana Jones
Luigi's Flying Tires
Matterhorn
Radiator Springs Racers
Space Mountain
Splash Mountain
Star Tours
Tower of Terror
Tuck and Roll's Drive'Em Buggies

Seems like a comprehensive list to me. I wouldn't worry about Autopia myself but I am a man so take that for what its worth.:cool1:

Any ride that has a minimum height requirement also has a warning for expectant mothers. One that you're missing, therefore, is Soarin' over California.

Hm. The one ride that I can find that has a height requirement but does not have "Expectant Mothers Should Not Ride" listed in its online description is Jumpin' Jellyfish. Can anyone confirm whether that one is "officially" off-limits?

My dr gave the ok for me to do the Autopia, Splash mountain, Soaring and the kid coaster in Toontown, Gadget's Go Coaster I think? I did them on my last two pregnancies and didn't have any issues. I wouldn't do them when I was 25-30 weeks+ but at 16 weeks there should be pleanty of cushion in there for the little guy and none of those are jerky, though the Gadgets coaster did make me a little motion sick.

I, as a mom, would worry about Autopia. The possibility of severe bumping, plus the fumes in that area, would make a HUGE red flag for a pregnant person.

Here is the rule of thumb. If it has a height requirement, it probably has a "Expectant mothers should not ride" warning. The exception is Soarin', which did have a warning due to motion sickness, but it was removed.

I would pass on Mater Tow as well.

I would also pass on any coaster because even if they are tame during the ride the g-forces during an emergency stop can be much higher.

For Autotopia the cars that rear end you can be jarring.

I would avoid Pirates as well. Occasionally your boat can get rammed HARD by the boat behind you. Is it likely? No but if it were me I wouldn't risk it. All the attractions will be there after your baby is born.

Right. It has a height requirement but I don't remember a warning. I would ride Racer's before I'd ride Mater's.

Oh, I am baaaaaaaad. I went on California Screamin' when I was 8 weeks prego. It's a REALLY smooth rollercoaster, and quite frankly, your car does worse things...

Same with Splash Mountain. I went on that then AND in WDW when I was seven months pregnant. Still will, as I'm pregnant again, lol.

I think Pirates is A-OK. You have to be jammed PRETTY hard to hurt that baby. Enough that it would hurt you.

I also went on Test Track, which is pretty similar to Radiator Springs. I don't recommend that one. It felt like my belly went one way, and I went another.

I absolutely would not ride Matterhorn, even if I wasn't pregnant. Waaaay too jarring.

Anything that you feel, such asG force Yoruba y feels also. I went in March, was 16 weeks also. Doctor said NO coasters at all, and no Autopia due to bumping, and no Indianaz. he okayed POC and all others, he said to use my judgment.

I had a friend who went to Disneyland, rode Star Tours, and 3 days later, miscarried at 14 weeks. I seriously doubt it was due to the ride, however, she cannot forget that she took this chance and lost the baby.

The rides will still be there a year from now. It isn't worth it to ride now. This is simply preparing you for how it will be with an infant/toddler/preschooler. From this point forward, there will be things that you can't/shouldn't do because you are pregnant/have a child. Slow down, enjoy the new pace, you may find when you get to Disneyland, you don't even want to ride.

We spent Christmas Eve with a friend who was 8 weeks pregnant. We learned she was pregnant when she wasn't riding her fav rides. She also was so happy she had "escaped" morning sickness. Until about 5pm, when she had her first serious bout of "all day sickness". She and I spent an hour sitting on the wharf while her hubby and my adult kids rode Racers and Screamin'. You may not feel up to riding... Make sure you keep hydrated. Thats a BIG issue with pregnancy and Disneyland.

Oh wow Malcon10t, I'm so sorry about your friend who had the late loss!

Until you or someone close to you has a miscarriage or a stillbirth, you usually take risks that you never would after you do. I know we did. My son Evan died at 35 weeks gestation and was born still. We are healthy people who never smoke or drank or did anything drastic. But we were naive to think that our baby would die, for none of us died and his older sister was fine when we did the same things.

Surviving russian roulette with our first gave us a false sense of security. We were considerably more careful with our third, and he is 3 years old now.

I believe Roger Rabbits Cartoon Spin is another.

Autopia was one of my favorite rides as a kid. I rode it for the first time in years back in October and did not like it at all. Found it very jerky and smelly and wouldn't think it a good ride for an expectant mother.

Congrats on your pregnancy and have a great trip!

When we have gone on Autopia, we have the kids in cars ahead of the last adult in the group. This way we can control our kids cars from being hit from behind. I guess you could do this too if you had someone with a sensitive back or what not.

As for a mom-to-be, this is one ride I feel would be good to avoid. The exhaust alone can be so over whelming!!! I really don't know how the CM's can work there every day?

Enjoy and Stay safe during your trip.

I am sorry for your loss. But you explained it so well.

Using the term Russian Roulette to describe successfully pregnancies in general is using hyperbole. However, our son died due to complications arriving from a placental abruption. And expectant mothers with a history of placental abruptions have a 1-in-8 chance of it happening again. So the 1-in-6 chance of surviving Russian Roulette is more applicable for our two surviving children.

But for most parents, your odds of a successfully pregnancy are much better, obviously.
