The New York Times (of all sources?) has apparently been reporting that Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will become the new sponsor of the Great Movie Ride in 2015 and will be helping Disney with some changes to the attraction, including an updated opening, perhaps a new or updated ride scene, and an updated finale.

Disney and TCM are expected to make an announcement tomorrow.

Perhaps something else (even more significant) to draw from this is that, despite some rumors, GMR doesn't appear to be going anywhere. Some are speculating that this might actually have something to do with next year's Sorcerer's Hat removal. Again, no official word on any of this from Disney or TCM but it appears pretty widely accepted.

Thoughts? What would you want to see in an updated GMR?

I look forward to reading the announcement. If true, this is good news. As much as I love this ride for its homage to classic movies over the decades, I would love to see it freshened up. TCM seems like a really good fit as a sponsor.

I hope the script doesn't get replaced. I LOVE it (...and have it memorized for the most part). I don't know if I can let myself get excited but TMC seems a great fit for sponsor. I'm just nervous, I guess. What if they screw it up? :confused3

Also, a new logo was posted on an article. It actually looks JUST like the poster for the classic movie Grand Hotel. Coincidence or...?

This is the poster that was posted:

And here's an attempted side by side comparison with the Grand Hotel poster (I'm tech-challenged but I tried):

Great news! I have never liked the Alien sequence. Most of the GMR experience needs to be replaced with new scenes.

An update would be OK. Just glad it's not looking like a full out replacement. I'd love to see the 1st scene actually work like it's supposed to. Aren't the girls meant to rotate and there are fountains or something?

I wonder when they'd work on this? That park is barebones as it is and closing another major attraction seems unreasonable.

Maybe changes will happen in phases and reopen in between? I'm fairly sure that's been done before at Disney parks.

Yes, but don't expect a return of the water effects.
The water was a maintenance nightmare.

I think this is exactly what TGMR needs. yes i love the opening scenes. but there needs to be some major updates/improvements. As long as they keep the wizard of oz scene and anamitronics (SP?) ill be happy!

With every old DHS attraction gone or on the chopping block I read plenty of threads with posters wondering if this ride would be next to go.I'm definitely glad it's not as it showcases the classic movies which is the heart of DHS.With that said changes do need to be made to update the ride.

Thanks for the info! I Really hope they don't see this as an opportunity to add more Frozen though...

O-M-G!!! Don't even think it!!! That would go against the purpose of a Disney-TCM partnership for GMR.

Another component to this deal is that Disney will start providing TCM with content from its vault, including old television programming. The first block is set to air on the night of 12/21 into the morning of 12/22.

I'm really excited for both components.
