So the dh was keen .... VERY keen to do the Space Centre. Infact the trip originally coincided with both a shuttle launch and a rocket launch - this was no accident, dh wanted to see both.

But bless his little heart as the fickle world of space travel peed on his space parade and both were postponed until 2009 (even he wont sit waiting in a stand that long!!).

The kids were quite excited to go too, not mad wild, but happy so we bundled them in and off we tootled for the 50 minutes or so drive. The bridge was up on the entrance way to the island and we were surrounded by a biker convention of some sort going to Kennedy as well - the kids loved that!

The car park looked very quiet, it was 11.30am but not alot of people at all. We paid for the regualr admittance and walked into the courtyard. First things of order were going to be the store and food!

Once in the store the littlies wanted spacesuits and they were very cool! Both wanted to also wear said spacesuits right now .... so here they are

we went from lunch onto the rocket garden where we informed the boys that these rockets had actually been to space which is why they were dirty and not shiny .... this revelation to them was quite shocking, and they ran around the garden touching things that had "actually been in the moon in the space sky" with such excitement it was too cute!

from there the next stop was the shuttle. dh was very happy to learn he could go inside it and the boys were amazed by all the surface tiles on the shuttle as we walked up to it. They also had toys of the shuttle and fuel cells carrier which is next to the shuttle so they were happily chatting away that they knew what all this stuff was.

by now the boys were wanting to play and get an ice cream. The dh wanted to so the bus tour so off he went (which at this point triggered a stropp of epic proportion for our youngest, wiling, flayling, and falling to the ground, who is very much a daddy's boy and he had to be dragged across the floor of the visitors complex to the ice cream stand, luckily with a mr whippy shoved in his face he calmed down!) and we tootled off to the playground - which was probably the thing they enjoyed most of all the entire day!!

dh came back looking like the cat caught the mouse giving me a blow by blow account of his trip and all relevant facts and stats ..... this I am accustomed to and tune out, knowing his alarming ability to drivel on for hours in technical details, but smile and nod occasionally at him to keep him happy :thumbsup2

its feeling like time to go soon but we spy the robot area and decide to do that before heading of ..... well lets just say I expected more!! but the boys again seemed happy so thats good.

All in all it was a nice trip out, not a whole lot for the boys to do, more of a museum than anything else and I wont be taking them back until they're quite a bit older. And to be REALLY honest I would have thought that Nasa could have done a better job on its themeing and graphics etc in its attractions ..... looked like it had been attacked by Blue Peter presenters with crepe paper, sticky back platic and loo rolls!!

The boys did have a really nice time, the day wasnt long at all, we were home at the villa by 4pm and the whole time at the centre the boys were accosted by staff and visitors alike to ask them if they'd just got back from space and what was it like to be a real astronaut .. it was very cute and they boys played it up to the hilt!!

The boys look so cute dressed as astronauts and I'm pleased your DH enjoyed it!

MY dh is desperate to get to KSC :) You have made it sounds more interesting than i expected !

Cool astronauts btw :)

I have never been to the space center but have read loads of trip reports however never seen those fab spacesuits. How wonderful for your boys to be able to dress up. I noticed at the bottom of the report on my PC there was an advert for the suits from ebay. strange.

Absolutely loving reading your reports.

they LOVE those outfits! we got a little big on them so they would last. They already were used for a halloween party we went to and most evenings they'll put them on round the house at some point.

The space centre is nice, its definately worth seeing, but its a museum rather than an attraction. They have tried to do a couple of things but nothing major.

For us it was a nice little half day trip out.

We will be going next month as my hubby wants to go. So thanks for the info!

The space suits are so cool!!! :thumbsup2

Lovely report, thanks for posting. I loved those little spaceman suits, your sons look ever so cute in them.

great report, we're going there on our trip in May.
