Hi all!

My dearest and I are getting married this time next year and he asked me to do some research on honeymoon hotspots (don't mention Disney, he's not game for that :( ). These are the things we are looking for...

Tropical/beachy weather

Some adventure or sightseeing to be had

Preferrably out of country, but close enough for us East Coasters (i.e., Hawaii and Bora Bora are probably out...we only have Sunday-Sunday)

Want to stay away from crowded HM spots like Cancun and any Sandals/Couples resorts

Not sure of our budget, but let's say $3-5K would be safe.

Want Disney quality or better ! (that's where y'all come in!)

He wants me to give him some options and then he's going to decide and suprise me. Got any recommendations??

Thanks so much!!

Based on those qualifications, here are my listings. Belize and Costa Rica are very nice, but I'm not sure about accomdations. There are some nice ones I here, but personally haven't been there. Definately for the adventurous, and lots of hiking close by. My favorite place to go, and there are a few hiking trails available, is St. John. There is a wonderful resort on the island, Caneel Bay http://www.caneelbay.com/ , very tropical and very upscale. Caneel wouldn't disappoint at all!! Another option on St. John, one which we always do, is we rent a private home. Now, the villas aren't on the beach (Caneel is right on 7 beaches), you must drive to them, but the space, and privacy can not be beat. Usually you have your own pool and hottub on your deck, as well as a kitchen for snacks, or maybe a private dinner or two. There are private chefs on the island, who will come to your villa and cook you a gourmet 4 course meal if you don't want to cook, but want total privacy. All of the villas we've stayed in are multi-million dollar homes, and are of course MUCH nicer than any Disney hotel we've stayed in. There are snorkle trips available to the BVI's and the Bath's available, a do not miss excursion! Like I said, plenty of hiking trails and some old Sugar Mill Ruins to tour. And of course some of the best beaches on Earth. Here is a website for more information about St. John. http://www.stjohnusvi.com/stjohn.html

A private villa rental in off-season (Mid April - Mid December) will probably run you from $2k and they go as high as $15k per week for the most exclusive rentals.

If you want any further information about St. John, don't hesitate to ask. We've been there numerous times, and are going back next summer, we love it so much!!!!

I have friends who just went to Aruba and said it was great. Near the equator, almost desert like. They rented ATV and had a blast. I think they stayed at a Marriot.

These resorts are all about romance and sharing time alone with your spouse. We like Couples Ocho Rios, but I'm thinking Couples Negril might be a better choice for you because Negril has more to do.

Great suggestions! Keep them coming! Thanks!!!!

This is on my must-do list. This resort looks beautiful and I love the thought of having the private plunge pool. I have done research on St. Luica and it appears to be a beautiful island.

Thats exactly where we stayed on our honeymoon. It was fabulous and we are looking forward to a return trip. I can't nelieve I didn't mention it. But I really want to try capjulca too.

We did a cruise for our honeymoon. Sadly, I learned I don't do ships well and was heavily medicated most of the time. On a bright note, we discovered Grand Cayman. It is a beautiful place, very friendly people, beautiful water, great shopping and food... I can't wait to go there again!

I agree with the above poster.

Little Palm Island.

As soon as we start traveling without the kids, DH and myself are going to have a second honeymoon there.

WOW, that place and beautiful. But I just can't believe the prices! $3,000 for 2 nights in a bungalow!?!

I never thought this would be said, but after looking at Tahiti's prices (the overwater bungalows are around $800/night).....

I think Tahiti is actually cheaper! ;)

We honeymooned in Hawaii and loved it. It was so beautiful, I cant wait to go back.
