EXILED FROM CHINATOWN: the girls take on the big apple! THE END!!! p.25

That happened to me before, Dawn - I don't know why. Did you meet up with Scott? I hope you didn't have a buzz this time!:rotfl2:

Scott, it's so cool you know your way around all those places - it's so overwhelming to me, I have to say I'm really scared to go to NYC!
You could do it. Just remember it is fast paced and you would be fine.

oh, i think i'd be more comfortable using the subway! the 3 times i was in a car in NYC i was praying for my life. the drivers there are INSANE! i wouldn't be able to get anywhere because i'm too nice and won't cut anyone off. next time you're nearby and have time go inside the cathedral. the pictures don't do it justice. i like H&M if i'm in the mood to shop. it's one of those places you have to really look through stuff to find what you want. so if i'm not in a shopping mood forget it.

Yeah driving down there is CRAZY!!!
I will have to got o Ellen's someday, never been.
Glad you liked Wicked, it is a great show.
Looks like you all had a great so far.
I will check out the Cathedral one day.

I actually missed it because we went home that weekend!

oh, bummer!

You always crack me up with your poses!:rotfl:
and it is nice to know I'm not the only person who does that sort of thing like my family tries to tell me.

Wicked looked like a great show!
I think I would have said something to the talkers.......one of my little pet peeves.

yes, we're both weird! i figured it would be best to go through the ushers - that's what they're there for. of course at the movies i just shush them myself.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Your pics are so funny! Your sister still just cracks me up! Pure Entertainment!

I saw Wicked with my daughter in Chicago and we just loved it too! Fabulous Fabulous show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't wait for more!

just wait until the next installment- she was in a goofy mood that night! cool that you saw wicked with your daughter! it's coming to nashville and i want to go with my mom. :)

Wicked sounds great. I would love to see it. The Wizard of Oz was my favorite movie growing up.

it's soooooooooo good! if you liked the wizard of oz you'd love it. you'd never look at that movie the same again!

I am ADDICTED to Wicked. I belt out the soundtrack in my car too! My daughter thinks I'm crazy! I am going back to see it next spring!

A little OT...but do I see a new Disney Ticker in your signature?

oh, if you like the soundtrack you're gonna love the actual performance! it's way better than i expected. as far as my ticker goes, it's our trip we have planned for december 2010. it's a long way off but i still like to know how much time i have left to wait!

Well go check out ticketmaster see what you think and let me know

I would  to go, but I'm not so excited about how much $$$$ the tickets are :snooty:

just texted you!

Have fun in Nashville!

thanks!

the food at ellen's wasn't anything special but it was entertaining. just stick with a burger and a shake and it's decent. definitely check out the cathedral - it's breathtaking!

so last i left you we had just seen an incredible broadway show and were on our way to dinner. this was our destination....

DSC01367.jpg

we wanted to eat here after the show just for the experience. sardi's is a famous restaurant where they have caricatures of famous people on the walls, kinda like the hollywood brown derby! we also remembered it fondly in "muppets take manhattan" when kermit goes to eat there in disguise in order to trick people into thinking he's famous.

here we are!

DSC01368.jpg

we were seated immediately near the back. i started looking around at the caricatures and didn't recognize any of them! :lmao:

DSC01369.jpg

DSC01371.jpg

talk about being in close proximity to your neighbor....le cellier ain't got nothing this place! check out the woman sitting next to me. that's the NEXT table over.

DSC01372.jpg

brooke and i ordered a mimosa which i realize is more of a brunch-type drink but the OJ sounded good to me. kinda unusual because i usually don't like OJ. anyway, anna wanted to get a picture of us toasting and brooke was in an especially goofy mood that night so the following ensued.....

DSC01373.jpg

DSC01375.jpg

a good one of brooke but i was giggling and couldn't control myself.

DSC01374.jpg

i think this one's my favorite.

DSC01376.jpg

anna was laughing so hard she cut me out of the picture.

DSC01377.jpg

i'm sure we looked ridiculous because we were laughing so hard but oh well!

finally....a good picture of both of us!

DSC01379.jpg

we ordered the cheese plate for an appetizer and it was okay. i think there was one cheese on there that i actually liked. the one on the far right with the green speckles was disgusting!

DSC01380.jpg

for dinner we ordered crab cakes and some sort of chicken pasta to share. the crab cakes were good. i didn't eat much of the slaw because it was mayonaisse based and i hate mayo. and the sauce that came with it was thousand island dressing i think - yuck! the pasta was okay. the chicken had a smoky, bacon-y flavor to it that was kind of odd.

DSC01381.jpg

DSC01382.jpg

this was by far the worst meal of our trip. it wasn't BAD, but it definitely wasn't near as good as the other places we ate. and what's funny is it was probably the most expensive place we ate at!

we decided to skip paying a fortune for dessert and instead head across the street to junior's to get some of their famous cheesecake. it was around 12:30 at that point and so we got it to go and took it back to the hotel room with us. i got strawberry swirl, brooke got carrot cake and anna got blueberry. we all shared of course!

pictures with our cheesecake......

DSC01383.jpg

apparently brooke didn't want to wait to eat it. um....brooke, you might want to take it out of the bag first!

DSC01384.jpg

DSC01385.jpg

DSC01386.jpg

i didn't think to take pictures of the actual cheesecake but it was really good! we of course didn't finish it. i kept mine out on the counter because we were keeping the room so flippin cold. brooke and anna put theirs in our cooler and it ended up getting water-logged the next day so they couldn't eat it.

so that concludes our first FULL day of NYC! what would the next day hold? a visit to the MET, central park, some very interesting street performers and top of the rock!

i think im first to respond, yah me

i would just eat at the hot dog carts outside that is all i need, no fancy dinners for the fauntleroy crew.

first off, i am cheep, second, i dont think they give you enough food at those places for what you pay for em.

So neat to be able to say you have eaten at Sardi's, but what a shame that the food was mediocre. A big slice of Junior's cheesecake sounds really good about now!

tell me at some point you guys went shopping on canal street!!!!!!

Okay, Brooke is a nut!!! :rotfl2: Oh my goodness, her pictures crack me up!!!!!

Those pictures are hysterical! It looks like you girls has a great time; sorry that the food wasn't good though. I've never been to Sardi's but I totally reember it from Muppets Take Manhattan... I love that movie!!!! Looking forward to more!

A Broadway play and dinner at Sardi's! How NY of you!:cool1: I love Anna's cheesecake pic - She has her fork already! YUM!:lovestruc

Loved your Wicked post, I must admit I did not check out the youtube clips, but I hope to see the show someday....... It plays in Chicago, and may be coming to Milwaukee soon?

Too funny about your proximity to the other tables at Sardi's:rotfl2:, reminds me of Cheesecake Factory. (we either sit in a booth, or high top table near the bar) Those pictures are funny of you and your DS, looks like even though the food was not the best you had a great time.

Once again I feel bad I did not research any dining options when we visited NYC last year. Next time I will have to consult with the DIS to get suggestions.:) Is that how you got suggestions on where to eat?

(whoops, sorry I got confused about the dress issue, your top was cute, and holy cow do you really think you can see up someone's dress at the Apple store?:confused3 A Brittany, that is hilarious:lmao:)

From the looks of your pictures, you all were having a great time. And that lady was sitting right there with you!

well, we ate cheap stuff for breakfast and lunch but for dinner it's nice to sit down and relax, especially after all that walking. the food we had at mesa grill was amazing. and the next two nights our food was awesome too. so i'm glad we took advantage of all the amazing places to eat around us. we did the hot dog thing too though!

So neat to be able to say you have eaten at Sardi's, but what a shame that the food was mediocre. A big slice of Junior's cheesecake sounds really good about now!

yeah, it was a neat place but i wouldn't go back there. the cheesecake was yummy!

tell me at some point you guys went shopping on canal street!!!!!!

you will have to wait and see! (my TR title gives you a BIG clue!)

Okay, Brooke is a nut!!! :rotfl2: Oh my goodness, her pictures crack me up!!!!!

that she is.

yeah, we had a great time that night. it's a nice place to visit but i don't recommend the food. maybe just go in there for dessert and coffee or something.

A Broadway play and dinner at Sardi's! How NY of you!:cool1: I love Anna's cheesecake pic - She has her fork already! YUM!:lovestruc

we thought so, too! even though anna is a fitness trainer she's always up for dessert!

i hope you get to see wicked! it's awesome. yes, we had a good time even though the food was kinda blah. i did get some suggestions here but some we already knew about. sardi's was one we wanted to try because of the muppets movie. and then mesa grill was my sister's idea because we both love bobby flay.

From the looks of your pictures, you all were having a great time. And that lady was sitting right there with you!

yeah, it was fun! and i could totally hear that lady's conversation!

I've never been to Sardi's either. :confused3 But I LOVE Juniors! Their chocolate mouse cheesecake is one of my favorite things in the universe, it atkes like 4 days to eat but it's good!!! ;)

Great update! You are right, Brooke was funny! Its way funny that it took that many pics to get a good one of her and you! :lmao:

i'm going to try to finish this thing pretty quickly. i want to finish it before i finish my december TR plus i don't feel like i have that many readers over here. don't worry - those of you who are reading along still have plenty to see!

--------------------------------------------------------

so now we are on to day 3, sunday, may 24th. we got somewhat of a late start on this day. anna and brooke woke up and went to work out again while i took a bath to help clear out my chest a little. i was ready to go and i looked at my watch and realized it was like 10:15. they'd been gone over an hour. so i texted anna and she had no clue it was that late. so they ran up to the room and got ready.

we got breakfast at a little market near our hotel and then headed over to where we were supposed to get our bus pass. anna had pre-purchased a two-day pass with gray line tours. it's a hop-on, hop-off pass so you can sort of use the bus for transportation too and learn about what you're seeing as you go. it's a doubledecker bus and everyone sits on the top. i don't think i ever saw anyone sitting on the bottom. now that i think about it, it's a wonder the thing never tips over!

today we were taking the uptown loop around central park, harlem and museum mile. then we were gonna get off and go to the metropolitan museum of art (the MET).

here's one of the buses.....

DSC01387.jpg

if you ever want to do a tour, don't worry. you can find guys selling tickets on every street corner near times square. they're everywhere!

getting on the bus....

DSC01388.jpg

DSC01389.jpg

DSC01390.jpg

our tour guide was this little asian lady (jordan's peep!) who was SO cute but i couldn't understand a WORD she said!!! she had me cracking up. half the tour i had my face down in my jacket because i didn't want to be rude and laugh at her but i couldn't help it. she was so funny to listen to. every now and then she would say an american name, like john lennon or bob dylan, and i'd understand the names in the middle of whatever it was she was saying about them. i didn't learn a lot but it was entertaining! :lmao:

i thought this building was cool....

DSC01391.jpg

i believe this was a statue of christopher columbus (one of the few words i understood the tour guide to say), the man who "discovered" america....that is after the indians had it first.....

DSC01393.jpg

DSC01394.jpg

this is where you enter central park west, i believe....

DSC01395.jpg

i love the architecture in this area....so pretty!

DSC01398.jpg

the dakota, where john lennon was shot....notice the guards....

DSC01399.jpg

apparently yoko ono still has an apartment at the top of the dakota. it overlooks strawberry fields, the area of central park dedicated to john lennon (which you will see later on in the TR).

the museum of natural history, where the first "night at the museum" was filmed. if you ever go to new york and have kids, take them here! i hear it's really cool. i wanted to see it but we didn't have time.

DSC01401.jpg

teddy roosevelt sits out front....with a bird on his head!

DSC01402.jpg

being on top of a double decker bus you get up close and personal with the stop lights....

DSC01403.jpg

we had to duck several times to avoid being swatted with a tree branch, especially on the east side of central park.

i thought this building was so pretty! i love the gothic architecture.

DSC01405.jpg

we eventually made it up to harlem and saw the apollo theater, which was surprisingly small....

DSC01413.jpg

i loved the brownstones in this area.....

DSC01414.jpg

after harlem we went back down the east side of central park, which is called museum mile because of all the museums nearby. we got off near the MET and headed that way. it's HUGE!

DSC01417.jpg

the "suggested" donation is $20 but i donated $5. here are brooke and i trying to figure out where we wanna go!

DSC01419.jpg

continued in next post: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=32418330&postcount=217

i can't even begin to tell you exactly what sections we saw. i know we saw some roman-looking sculptures, some egyptian stuff, and lots of monet (which i love) and picasso (which i also love). we also went into a photography section but it was very small. we saw some asian-inspired stuff too. the place is SO BIG and the maps on the walls are VERY confusing. we got lost more times than i could count. it seemed like every guard would tell us a different way to go when we'd ask for directions. but the place was GORGEOUS! you really need an entire day to even see half of it. we really wanted to spend some time in central park so we had to budget our time. we got to the MET around 12:30 and we said we'd need to leave around 3:00 in order to make our way to central park, so we only had about 2.5 hours to look around, but i really enjoyed it.

here are some pictures....

DSC01423.jpg

DSC01424.jpg

i believe this is supposed to be hercules....

DSC01427.jpg

i LOVE this painting!

DSC01440.jpg

and i believe this is the monet that rose bought in "titanic". if not, it's very similar.

DSC01437.jpg

such a pretty place!

DSC01451.jpg

DSC01457.jpg

we turned around to see brooke popping her back on the handrails at one point. :rotfl:

DSC01456.jpg

DSC01458.jpg

going into the little asian display they had....

DSC01462.jpg

DSC01464.jpg

i think anna was talking to chris here about drama back at home....

DSC01465.jpg

then she did some yoga....:rotfl2:

DSC01475.jpg

DSC01479.jpg

that HUGE gate-like thing in the background was really cool.

DSC01481.jpg

this is the dude who chopped off medusa's head. i can't remember his name to save my life!

DSC01494.jpg

we started to get hungry at some point so we looked on the map for a place to eat. we went into one place and it was way too expensive for what we wanted. there was rooftop cafe sorta place so we decided to try that. it took us forever to find it but i'm glad we did because the view was awesome! here's a video anna took as we got up there. there was a big metal sculpture on top that was really neat. you can hear the guard telling someone not to hang from it. people amaze me.

DSC01485.jpg

DSC01489.jpg

i loved the view from here!

DSC01484.jpg

DSC01487.jpg

the cafe upstairs had nothing we wanted to eat so we headed down to the cafeteria that was somewhere in this ginormous place. we finally found it and i believe brooke got a grilled chicken sandwich and anna and i got veggies. we were all starving and so i forgot to take pictures! sorry.

next update: central park, one of my favorite parts of the trip!!!

So I have been to the met so many times i know my way around BUT i have never been to the roof. I think a trip is in order next week!

I'm so glad the weather was nice for you!

Wow the views in some of those shots are beautiful!! Wowwww is all I can say, so nice. Brooke is too funny cracking her back on the handrails LOL

I've NEVER been to the MET, some NYer I am! :headache: It looks so gorgeous but I think it would definitely have to be something to do on a girl's day out because I don't think I could get Chris to spend much time in there, he's got ADD I think! LOL The Asian displays are so nice and Anna's yoga posing is great LOL :thumbsup2

Beautiful pictures of the Met! I am exhausted now just thinking about how much walking you must have done in there!

I think the guy who killed Medusa was Perseus.
