Inspired by the thread about people who "don't get" why you never get tired of Disney World:

We don't go nearly as often as many here, and I confess we often stay off property and go to other attractions outside WDW. BUT, I do understand those who come to WDW only, and come every year. In answer to those people who don't intend to be rude, but are simply clueless about why you enjoy Disney, here are some of the "excuses" I can think of, LOL! Please submit your own!!!

* Vacations are meant for relaxing and "unwinding" from the pressures of life, and WDW is the place where we find it easy to do that.

* Vacations are meant for having fun and making happy memories with your family, and we always have the best times when we're at WDW.

* Disney World has some of the finest resort hotels and restaurants in the world, and they're all in close proximity.

* In addition to normal theme park activities, there are special events going on all year, as well as boating, fishing, golf, dinner shows, and world-class spas.

Okay, those are for starters. I bet a lot of people don't know they can go to first class restaurants and spas, or take a boat out on the lakes, or go to a dinner show. They think you just "go on rides" all day every day, and that's all there is. Personally, the thing I like best about Disney World parks and hotels is that they are a feast for the senses. The elaborate details and architecture of the buildings, the wonderful flowers and lush landscaping, the fact that everywhere you look everything is picture perfect, bright, cheerful, and full of fun. I could have a great time if I never went on a single "ride." It's a pleasure just being there and seeing the imagination and beauty of the various Lands in MK or the grandeur of the Wilderness Lodge or the Grand Floridian, the colorful maze of shops along the water at Downtown Disney, listening to the steam whistle of an old fashioned train, or seeing the monorail whooshing by. Can anyone get bored or tired of beauty?

Its not really an excuse but my reply is......

If you'd like me to vacation somewhere besides WDW please feel free to pay for it. Then I'll consider traveling somewhere besides the Mousehouse!

We have only been once, but my family is shocked to hear we are already planning another trip. I tell them there are people who "get" Disney and people who don't. We just get it. No further explaination needed :)

It's a place we can go and play WITH our children, not just watch them play. (That is what Walt intended it for!) And afterall, children learn through play!

Disney (WDW) offers everything (not much beach and no ocean). You can relax, spa, go on rides, go on attractions and eat till you throw up.

I think a trip to Disney is fabulous! My husband is the only one in our family of 4 that "doesn't get it!". He thinks it costs way too much, but I tend to disagree! Where else can you go on vacation and get so many different experiences in one day? There is SO much to do, and so much to see. I do like the parks, but I also enjoy just going to all the different resorts and checking them out or eating at one of the restaurants. Then there are all the parades(Spectromagic is our favorite), and fireworks. I know park tickets are expensive, but when you break it down per day, it is not bad at all. We went to Kings Island last summer and spend a LOT in just one day!!! I think it is the best bang for the buck!!! :thumbsup2

Where else in the world can you:
dine in a castle with a Princess
swim in a melted ski resort and/or a shark reef
view the African Savannah outside your hotel balcolny
travel back in time to see Dinosaurs
eat and drink your way around the world
train for a mission to mars
create your own vitual roller coaster then ride it
travel through the twilight zone and back
be invited backstage to an Aerosmith concert via speeding limmo
Trek through the Himalayas and "almost" get eaten by a Yeti
See fireworks EVERY NIGHT
learn about American history and have it be fun
skip down the street with a giant turkey leg and not look crazy
tour a haunted mansion in a "doom buggy"
plunder and pillage with captain jack Sparrow
.......?????????????????????????
Um where are you guys going this summer??

oh the beach- um yeah I bet that will be really great. I love to dig holes and brush sand out of my underwear. It's awesome.

My answer whenever anyone asks why in the world we're going to Disney World again is.......because we like it...........nuff said

When I'm in WDW, there is no stress-no traffic, no bosses, I don't read the newspaper or watch the TV news. From the time I hit the gates until I leave, the "real" world is gone. Even if I can only stay a few days, that break helps me to cope with the insanity that we all witness every day. With all the anger in the world, wouldn't you want to spend some time in a place that was still reasonably happy?

A+ Post PottersMom, you stated exactly what I was thinking, I prefer Universal but I love Dis too! I can't wait to go back to both of them! I love the beach too, but like you said in a different way, that gets really boring after a few days, nothing like WDW and Universal.

And like PM said, where else is there to go? Yes I like my beach time too, but a whole week on the beach without anything else going? That is boring, I can't stay drunk long enough to make that fun. If someone else had an idea of where else to go I would be happy to listen. I don't know of a single place unless you are talking Rome or Vienna or some other site seeing tour, where no doubt you would end up in a 4 star hotel room that was the equivalent of an American Motel 6 for $300 a night, with no AC, see the coliseum and some more ruins, ok interesting but no WDW or U experience.

Other theme parks? Been to em and done em nothing compare to WDW and U.

As for the other post where your DH thinks its too expensive, well yes it is expensive, but what is the alternative? Orlando is a money trap, maybe worse than Vegas, but that's just part of it. There are lots of ways to go on the cheap if you need too, but personally I don't care, I just come to the realization without any regret that when I go there I will blow a bundle of $$$, you can't take it with you when you die, I can't think of a better place to blow the family fortune than at Dis and Uni!!!!! Going back within a matter of weeks!! Will blow about $4 K without blinking!!!!

High crimes! ;)

We have loved our WDW vacations for years, plan separate ones every couple of years, which we have fun on, but reminds us of why we keep going back---

For the money it's the BEST value of any vacation we've taken

All ages of our family enjoy it, from 2-92

It is always clean (both morally and phyically)

Whatever the weather the vacation continues

We know more every trip, which means better trips

We have never EVER had a bad time

There is always something new to ride, see and eat!

We honeymooned there before it was the "THING" to do!

It's a great reason to spend hours on these boards, chatting with like-minded people!

Blasphemy... hehe

My "excuses" are:

-I'm poor..and I get into the parks for free...why would I go anywhere else?

-It's a tradition!!!

-I have to check if I have heart disease, so I decided to go on Mission:Space. ;)

-What if Carousel of Progress closes and I didn't get to go that one last time?

-Two words: dole whip

-Two French Words: La Cellier

-I wanna be a kid again! Sue me! ;)

I just HAVE to participate in this thread because I've tried out various answers over the years, ranging from the serious and sentimental to the snarky and even downright confrontational. (Depends on who asks the question or makes the statement, how it's uttered, and how many times he or she has engaged me in this conversation.)

Okay, I do have my pat answer, "Because it's Disney," usually accompanied by a look on my face that suggests I don't even understand why it's a question.

Now...on to the others! My list probably falls more into the explanation over excuses line of responses, with the occasional foray into the retort.

Serious
--Have you ever been to someplace where you immediately felt like you were home, even if you'd never been there before? That's how I felt the first time I went to WDW. If you've had that coming-home experience, you understand why I go back. If you haven't had that experience, I can't possibly explain it.

--I like going to a place where I'm surrounded by people who all have positive expectations for themselves and their interactions with others. People are all smiling at each other in WDW. They look each other in the eye. If I walk up to a stranger to ask them a question, we might have a conversation, share a story, laugh. If I walk up to a stranger in my city, they assume I want to take something from them.

--I find more to do at WDW as my interests grow and change. Sure, I can return to my old favorites, like the park's rides, which are as comfortable as my regular trips to the family. But I can also try new things, balancing the old with the new. And my life is all about finding balance.

--I can go to WDW with anyone who's close to me and we always find things to share, no matter how diverse our interests are. I've been with parents with children, young lovers, rebellious adolescents, retirees. I've visited with thrill-seekers and athletes as well as with couch potatoes and world-class shoppers. I've been with people who have a lifetime of adventures waiting for them and people who are dying. On all these trips, I've managed to see the world--both Disney and beyond--through their eyes, and it's enriched me beyond what I can tell you. Despite our differences, Disney gives us a common ground and because of these trips we share memories which help us become even closer. So why not Disney?

Less Serious
--47 square miles of leisure-time activities. I find enough to keep my attention.
--Dole whips, baby.
--Hey, all those sitcom families go!
--It must be something in the water.
--Florida sunshine without having to drive with other Florida tourists.

Other One-Liners
--I'm too lazy to get my passport stamped.
--My in-laws [sometimes I will say parents] refuse to visit WDW.
--I'm planning to take over the World, but don't tell anyone.
--Aversion therapy. I'm scared of mice.
--I've been to Disney???? Man, I have to quit drunk dialing and flying.

I'll try to come up with some more relevant and light-hearted "excuses," as I think we all go through these kinds of challenges with regards to our choosing Disney as a repeat vacation destination.

But now, if you want to see the responses that I'm less-than-proud-of....

Retorts--Only on the couple of times when I've been pushed really hard. These are specific to the person who challenges me, and I crossed some lines I'm not particularly proud of. I wouldn't bother with these kinds of responses these days, but I was more hot-headed when I was younger. I offer them up as an example of responses that aren't particularly effective. The first is judgmental of another's lifestyle choices, the second is a personal attack, and the third is fails to initiate a constructive dialogue.

--You know how some people hunt furry creatures for fun? Me, too. Only in Disney I'm called an autograph seeker, collecting hugs and souvenir pictures instead of carcasses.

--You mean, instead of spending my vacations with you? Oh, I don't know.

--And to my shame, this exchange. When my former MIL, with whom I had the sadly stereotypical relationship, first learned of my love for Disney, she went on this rant about visiting DLR once and hating it. She had decided to visit DL, before there was a DCA, on the spur-of-the-moment when when visiting CA. Shen went on and on about how she didn't get to ride any rides, about how the lines were unbearable, about how it was crowded and noisy. That day? January 1st. I kept my mouth shut until she talked about line-cutters. She went off about how all the line-cutters, "those people" as she called them, pretended not to speak English when they really could; according to her, that was the problem with "foreigners," that they were rude and deceptive. I should have had a more reasoned discussion with her, been more subtle, tried to let her about how her responses sounded to my ears, but nooooo. I was sooooo mad :furious: that I just lost it; I told her that of course there would be lines on Jan. 1 and that her blanket characterization of "those people" was racist and offensive to me. [My ex sat in silence, embarassed because of what I said. No wonder the marriage didn't last!]

I couldn't have said it better myself. The only reason why I turn on the TV is to watch the weather to see what it will be for the next day.

Well, we have the problem of being DVC owners. So, we'll have to go for the
next 36 years. We've already used our excuse 14 times. Unfortunately, we'll have to stay at the BCV's and walk to Epcot and MGM. Gosh, I wish they had bus service :teeth: Plus, it gets cold up here in Connecticut, so why not run the 1/2 marathon (excuse) in January! Oh, did I mention F&W festival and the free (excuse) beer seminars at the Rose & Crown Pub garden, sponsored by InBev the last 4 years? :drinking1

That's all for now! :rolleyes1

I just telll people WDW is my stress-free zone, just like my TYP Lagoon Tshirt, with Mickey and gang cruising on Castaway Creek states... :flower1:
