"Excuses" for loving WDW!

I think a trip to Disney is fabulous! My husband is the only one in our family of 4 that "doesn't get it!".

I have to admit my husband doesn't really "get it" either. However he does "get" that WDW made his wife and children extremely happy and he's all about making his family happy

dine in a castle with a Princess
swim in a melted ski resort and/or a shark reef
view the African Savannah outside your hotel balcolny
travel back in time to see Dinosaurs
eat and drink your way around the world
train for a mission to mars
create your own vitual roller coaster then ride it
travel through the twilight zone and back
be invited backstage to an Aerosmith concert via speeding limmo
Trek through the Himalayas and "almost" get eaten by a Yeti
See fireworks EVERY NIGHT
learn about American history and have it be fun
skip down the street with a giant turkey leg and not look crazy
tour a haunted mansion in a "doom buggy"
plunder and pillage with captain jack Sparrow....

My parents took me to Disney almost every other year growing up and I just love all of the wonderful memories that I shared with them. I also worked in DTD on the college program so it is a very special place to me...I have now experienced the magic with my DS8 and will be making new memories in Dec when I travel to Disney with my DF for the first time and get married there. BTW, DF can't understand why I have been planning for months...

--I can go to WDW with anyone who's close to me and we always find things to share, no matter how diverse our interests are. I've been with parents with children, young lovers, rebellious adolescents, retirees. I've visited with thrill-seekers and athletes as well as with couch potatoes and world-class shoppers. I've been with people who have a lifetime of adventures waiting for them and people who are dying. On all these trips, I've managed to see the world--both Disney and beyond--through their eyes, and it's enriched me beyond what I can tell you. Despite our differences, Disney gives us a common ground and because of these trip we share memories which help us become even closer. So why not Disney?]

That's very profound, and you make a great point, that there is something to delight every age group, and amuse people with wildly diverse interests. There's not many vacation destinations that can make that claim. I personally enjoy going to different places such as the mountains, lakes or the ocean, historical sites, etc. But any of these places have limited appeal for everyone in a group. We take three weeks of vacation per year and we seldom repeat vacation destinations. There's a few places we have gone to more than once, but it's rare. WDW is the only place we have vacationed multiple times and plan to go many more times. Theres always something new to try, plus all the old familiar experiences that you look forward to enjoying on each visit. It's strange, but the more times I go, the more things I find to enjoy.

Sounds like you have a DH much like mine! I know it drives my husband crazy when I talk about Disney and that I spend so much time on these boards. But, he knows it makes me happy and he knows that I won't ever NOT want to go to Disney so he is going to have to deal with it! It is a place to make you forget about EVERYTHING and I think that is what is so magical about the place! My kids love it and so do I, so we are going back again with or without him!!!

Its the only place my "too cool" 12 year old son actually will act like a 12 year old instead of a 20 year old!

Same here. He said he is not going back next year, he wants to go somewhere else. So we will go somewhere else, and my son and I are going to Disney World for the F&W Festival Oct 2007. Son is 29, and he takes his son every year. He gets it.

Not that hubby won't have a good time when we go in December 2006, but he feels like he has seen it all and done it all....I think I will never see and do it all, even if I went every day. OK, that is probably a bit extreme, but if I lived close enough I would be there A LOT

......Magic, that's what it's all about. One simple word that evokes such an intense and positive reaction in all of us who "believe". Anyone else out there with goosebumps thinking about their next visit??

Its not really an excuse but my reply is......

If you'd like me to vacation somewhere besides WDW please feel free to pay for it. Then I'll consider traveling somewhere besides the Mousehouse!

I've got to ask

Have you ever considered anywhere else but FW? Disney has some great hotels but I'd get sooo bored being at the same one every trip!!

Must say I don't agree with Disney being a relaxing place... when we get back we have to sleep for a week, we almost need another holiday to get over the last one!!

I make no excuses.
I just recite the months and days until my next trip and do a little dance. People generally back away slowly, sort of the same reaction they'd give a racoon with a foaming mouth.

I figure, they're not going to get it, so why waste valuable energy?

We were at Disney July 8-15 for a grand gathering. DH and I did not really get much time to ourselves. So we booked another trip for Oct2-6 for just the 2 of us. Family could not believe that we are going again. But I agree that it is a place where you can kind of forget all the stresses in your life ( too many to mention) and make memories. We are in our late 40's and my MIL told us to enjoy life now because if you wait till your golden years, who knows. Also, I tell people that going to Disney 2-4 times a year is no different than going to a cottage or beach house all the time! I think they are just jealous

My excuse for loving WDW and Disney itself is that I've grown up on Disney I've watched Disney for as long as I can remember and have always loved it thats my excuse.

I have to say that I am one whos family doesn't get it. We have gone so many times and are DVC owners but my husband just thinks that I am crazy. Every time I book our next vacation I have to have an excuse. Luckily our DD has been a cheerleader for the past 12 years and she has had many competitions in DW. She has Nationals for college every Jan. so we have to go and this year I turned it into a 10 day excursion with my extended family for my 40th birthday. Where else would I want to turn 40? Nowhere. But why can't everyone get it?? Oh well they will not stop me from going to the world.
