Does anyone know what (if any) is a customary tip amount for an excursion guide?

I think we tend to do anywhere from 10-20% (I think the 20% was when we booked private boat charters for snorkeling and we were more impressed with the service we received).

Does anyone tip on the excursions where transportation only is provided (like the "explore such and such on your own" but DCL provides the transportation)??

Our private excursion Grand Cayman cost about $320, and I tipped our guide $40. I am usually a 20% tipper and enjoy being generous but in this instance I didn't really think about a tip until we were already on our adventure, not sure why, and that is all the cash I had taken off the ship with me. So, definitely could have tipped more but glad I was able to give at least 10%.

I would've been in this boat, ha--no pun intended! But luckily, my mom had a lot of cash on her, so she paid the gratuity for that private excursion in Tortola and I did the tip for the one on St. Thomas! I wish it was a little easier to add tips rather than using cash (like adding to your credit card...I just don't carry a lot of cash and stupidly tend to forget on vacation)!

I know everyone on the dis is a big tipper, but the norm seems to be between $0-$10 for most excursions. I'm always really curious and try to watch as people tip the tour guide when they get off the boat/bus.

The really small intimate excursions get more, but that's different from the normal Disney cattle call where they load 100 of you on a bus or boat for a few hours.

Depends. 1/2 day tour - $5 per person; full day tour - $10 per person. Just remember to check if the tip you give is pooled to be shared with driver, or if the driver is allowed his/her own tips. Also, tipping is entirely up to you, whether you feel the guide/driver did an excellent enough job to get a tip or not.

I agree with this. In this instance, with hundreds of other guests, I would tend to tip less.
