Exclusive Baby Gorilla Photos! (plus bonus Trip Report) - June '15 - completed 10/23 - Page 31

Awesome update! I loved the comedic play by play of the Spaceship Earth scenes -- you're so right on! My fav was thanking the Phonecians for the letters that make up the Trip Report :rotfl2:

Um. I.can't.figure.out.the.second.word.or.the.last.two.

Honestly. I graduated from college, really, I did. Are they real words? :teacher: <-i know that's a math emoticon.....but it was the closest to a teacher I could find.

Sadness! And Mindy Kaling!

Also, we have never been to Coral Reef. In my defense, I'm allergic to shellfish and that place just gives me the willies. Like I should just shoot myself with epinephrine before we walk in.

Yeah, I'd probably avoid it, too, in your case.

YUMMY! I will have this in less than a month. I wonder if they still do the 3 flavor one?

I think they do, but could be wrong.

Sooooooooo, FP+ for Illuminations. I wonder if this is the same area for the Illuminations Sparkling Dessert Party? We are booked for that on our first day and I'm not sure where the outside viewing area is located......

Not sure. I thought the dessert party was over at that Odyssey place that no one really knows what it is?

Great update! I'm such a slacker. You've inspired me to work on my own report!

Nice! Now, I just have to read it :rolleyes1

I may have to try that - love unsweetened iced tea!

So does Kristin, but just today, she was telling me again how the Japanese one "tastes like dirt".

I still can't believe they served the fish like that. It looks like it came out of a dumpster. Your dinner this year looks much better. And that dessert looks amazing in any shape.

Well, it looked better, but the waitress offered to cut it for me. And she did. But it was intact when it came to the table.

We ate at Coral Reef for dinner last year and thought one of the giant turtles met his maker the night we were there. We saw him swimming around when we first got there but then he slowly drifted down, head first, and landed right by one of the tank windows. He didn't move the rest of the time we were there. Hopefully he was just sleeping!

Ooh, that stinks! I wouldn't want to be at that table.

They should have used paper from Secret Squirrel since his sidekick was Morocco Mole and he wore a fez.

Now THAT would have made sense!

Awesome update! I loved the comedic play by play of the Spaceship Earth scenes -- you're so right on! My fav was thanking the Phonecians for the letters that make up the Trip Report :rotfl2:

Thanks! Those Phonecians were awesome!

And speaking of Trip Reports, I'd better update mine before I fall into the "no updates" trap. So here comes day 8, right now:

For some reason, my Day 9 notes precede this day's notes, and I'm not quite sure why. But it doesn't really matter. In fact, I don't even know how it's relevant to the trip story. But then again, relevance to the trip story was never a prerequisite for inclusion my Trip Report.

Speaking of, Iron Maiden put out their 16th studio album today, their first in 5 years. They're in their 50s now, but as good as ever. Probably not too many Maiden fans here on the DISboards, but that's my unsolicited review anyway.

Now, where was I? Oh yeah - things that are irrelevant to this Trip Report. But I was done with that topic, anyway. So back to the actual trip. Sound good?

Good.

Today is our second of three Magic Kingdom visits on this trip, and we intend to make the most of it. Early, at least. So it's up at 5:45 for me, and I get ready in short order. Kristin gets up next, then Dylan is coaxed, reluctantly, out of the Murphy bed so he can shower. Of the three of us, he's the only one who really cares about privacy in these tight quarters. And he offends easily in this regard. So there is a lot of "close your eyes for a minute" and "don't look over here" going on in this room.

Emily is next in line to get out of bed.

I said, EMILY IS NEXT IN LINE TO GET OUT OF BED.

...

Still nothing. Ok, this is going to be a problem.

Emily was absolutely AWFUL that morning, but we still managed to drag her out of bed, push her to get ready, and get to the Magic Kingdom before rope drop. But not without a fight. She was MISERABLE in the room. We almost wanted to leave her there.

A bit later, her mood seems to be improving somewhat, and why not? Look where we are!

I forget who that guy was, but he was filling in for the mayor, who was off golfing or campaigning or something. Street employees are still on duty, however:

They can sing, they can dance, after all, the train's just about here! Tears are a-flowin', as usual, but the real problem seems to be that I appear to have forgotten how to use the "zoom" function on our camera. So you can *sort of* see who is on the train. If you squint really hard and turn off any background lighting.

Ok, I'll just tell you: it was Disney characters.

Such as:

Hey, I zoomed a little bit in that one, at least! Hey, look who else is here!

My favorites! Unfortunately, we won't get to meet them this year. However, that means we get to go to Narcoossee's.

In case you were wondering, in light of the awful choice of photos for the restaurant in the day header, we had ADRs for the Cape May Cafe at Beach Club. However, I didn't take ANY pictures of the restaurant, or of any singage. Or of a lot of the food, to be honest. But anyway, that's where we ate. Narcoosee's is in three days.

The Family of the Day (tm) poses with the Big Cheese:

The fireworks launch:

...and the rope drops. In we go!

We're not really racing anywhere right now, figuring we'll walk on Peter Pan's Flight while the masses descend upon the Mine Train and Princess Fairytale Rainbow Peace Love Unicorns Kittens Puppies and Makeup Hall near the border of New and old Fantasylands.

Who cares about buses? We just got off a bus!

There's the Castle! Complete with giant boxes on either side.

I'm really digging the new layout of the Hub, and it will be great when it's complete. But for now, we'll deal with the skrim. After all, this is still unobstructed:

Back to Fantasyland, where everyone who was in a hurry is long gone and in their respective queues:

We're excited for Pan, since it's got a whole new queue. Since there's next to no one in line with us, we take our time and absorb it.

A silhouette of Tink would fly by here every once in a while:

I like this queue! It's not as interactive as some of the others, but still themed really nicely. After all, nothing is too good for...

We board, and the ride is the ride. You all know it, you all love it...to the extent that you enjoy it and it's a classic, but wouldn't be entirely heartbroken if you had to miss it one year. But it's still love. After all, this is Disney, where even the mediocre is awesome.

After that, we went to the next solid B-level attraction at the Magic Kingdom, the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Another fun one that never seems to crack the Top Ten. Queue's neat here, too:

And, like Pan, we're on this one in minutes. The big attractions are really absorbing the early morning crowds today!

We get some photos on the actual ride this time:

Geez, Rabbit...your spelling is atrocious.

If you had to describe Rabbit to a kid from the last two decades, you could really get away with simply saying, "he's Pooh's Squidward". Except he's not funny. He's just a jerk. Almost getting Tigger killed in the woods and stuff.

Hold on, there seems to be a problem:

No worries - let's just move to the next scene!

...

Or not! That's where my photos end. Sorry, guys - I even missed the shot of the spilled paint Hidden Mickey. And everything else that happened after the Blustery Day ended. But I promise we'll have a lot of other photos for you! Like these photos of Fantasyland:

[

We'll be eating up there today!

And look - it's heaven!

There's Chick-a-pin Hill in the distance:

If you can't tell, we're headed to Frontierland. We're gonna ride us a train. And a log, hopefully.

But probably not a riverboat:

Kristin used to love that, and still does, but it's too long, and an easy snub when it means we get to do other things. Like this:

ACK!!! No, not that! ANYTHING but that!

Alright, alright. I don't HATE Tom Sawyer Island. But I HATE that raft ride. It should be themed like a big cooking pot. Really, if there were a bridge to TSI, we'd probably visit it, but the sauna/raft was bad enough in April other years.

So no, thanks.

We'll be riding this soon, instead:

From the looks of it, no one's riding it yet! Ok, no problem. We'll just get in this 5-minute June standby line:

I already used this next Big Thunder photo in the day header, but I really like it, so here it is again:

And here's the train in front of us:

Morning is the way to go. Seriously. Now, if we can just get those kids up. They look ok now, though:

We opted for the back, which is really wild on this ride. Second-to-the-back is rough, too:

Kids are getting along!

Kristin snaps the old-school digital camera blind selfie...

...and we're done! Time for a quick PhotoSpotShot...

...and it's back in line!

Yep, we're doing it again. As I walk through the queue, it becomes obvious that they are REALLY strict at this ride. Talk about taking all the fun out of it. Sheesh.

All aboard, and this time, we're in the front!

Arms up!

The front of BTMRR is kind of a let-down compared to the back, and this is one of the only coasters you'll ever hear me say that about. The engine in the front obstructs the view, and you go REALLY slowly over some of the hills. Still a great ride, though. So much fun, in fact, that we're riding again!

In line, I try to get photos I didn't get the first two times, but the pickings are slim:

And we're on!

We ride, we have a blast, and I don't attempt to get any dinosaur shots, unlike last year. We have enough of those!

Afterwards, we decide that 3 rides is enough, and move on to this:

Even though BTMRR's standby line is still only this:

However, Splash's is also this:

No brainer - let's go!

It's amazing that we've been here just around an hour, and we've already been on Pan, Pooh, and BTMRR three times. And now, we're riding Splash, with virtually no wait. In June.

Queue theming shot:

Hey, we never noticed this before!

Hey, let's hope. It's hot!

I sort of wish Disney would re-activate the blast cannon going around the turn in front of the drop, but it's not happening today. We also miss the blast from any plunging rafts:

Hey, Rabbit - THIS is how you spell "cabbage":

Of course, the real reason I took that, and the other photo, was because the word "cabbage" was apparently hilarious after 11:30 pm on a nightly basis to our insomniac kids. And "cookies", too. Ok.

No more photos on this ride (we have 9 trips' worth already), but I do snap two after the ride:

Next up, it's through Adventureland, for no particular reason beyond taking pictures:

Closed, me hearties, yo ho!

I guess it's only fitting. It was closed the first year we came here, too.

Disney also apparently swapped the Dole Whip and Orange Bird locations, for some reason. We *might* have a photo of that later. In the meantime, here's the Tiki Room:

And other Adventureland stuff:

Dylan awaits the spiddle...

I spot a Hidden Turtle...

The girls pose...

...and we're outta there!

Now, it's through the Hub, for more photos!

And, finally, Tomorrowland!

Hey, can we actually do stuff in this land, guys?

Sure - we have FPs for Space Mountain! But we have time to hit something else, first. How about Buzz?

Buzz it is, and Dylan tilts it by hammering the Z underneath Emperor Zurg...

...then goes to jail for cheating:

Not sure what Emily did, since her score was awful. Maybe THAT was her crime.

Hey, there's the Carousel of Progress!

Always a favorite of ours, but we're headed elsewhere:

From the clock on the SM gift shop, you can see it's not even 9:30 yet. We've been here an hour and a half, and did so much already. And now, we're going to ride Space Mountain. Wow.

And ride we did, but I have no photo documentation to prove it. But we LOVE this ride now, even though the 17 water bottles in the backpack I'm carrying somehow ended up on the floor underneath my seat. And my phone. What?

I gather my belongings and exit to the right, and then it's back to Fantasyland. Due to my "expert" planning, we can ride the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train right now! And ride we did!

Beast's Castle in the distance. I will never forget seeing the man working on that back when New Fantasyland was still a work-in-progress. The tower wasn't much taller than he was. Forced perspective, baby!

I TRY to get a shot of the dancing scene, which is my favorite part of the ride. Doesn't quite work out for me, though:

I do get one of the witch:

I know people think this ride is too short, but I disagree. There is a LOT to it. And it's all great. And so smooth.

After 7DMT, the kids try to free the sword:

No luck. Emily's birthright has apparently expired. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.

Since there is NEVER a line for Mickey's Philharmagic, we decide to go watch it. This is a great attraction, though waiting outside the doors to the theater does seem to take forever. You forget that part when you are observing the lack of a line.

So much I like in that movie, though. The Be Our Guest scene, the brooms, the Lion King scene...Gilbert Gottfried...turning around to look at the back of the theater at the end to tip of the first-timers...oh, and, yeah, Donald Duck.

Alright, that's enough excitement for one morning. Let's eat!

(next update)

I think the theming and the mine scenes make up for how short it is.

Thanks for the update; as usual I am really enjoying your TR. I have 51 days to go until our stay at CSR and your report is helping me cope as time seems to be going very slowly right now. I am impressed with how much you were able to get done in one morning. Did you have a plan or wing it that day?

Clearly I will need to be "camera ready" at all times on 7DMT? This will be our first time riding. I believe I have scheduled 2 sets of FP+ for this ride. We plan to park hop quite a bit (as we tend to do) so a few of those MK days will really only be a few hours in the a.m. before we run off to party somewhere else (or perhaps just lounge at the pool)!

I actually am keeping our resort preference to Jamaica. I'm hoping the bridge outage will keep everyone away and we'll have the place to ourselves!

This teaches me to take a few months off from the DIS... you're already on Day 8!

It's a delight to read another one of great reports, Jon. I'm impressed that you tried another resort - I've never been excited about Caribbean Beach given it's size, but then I thought CSR was pretty big, too. I also can't believe how much your kids grown! I can't believe Dylan is in high school now!

I'm glad that you liked La Nouba - isn't it fantastic?! I saw it back in 2012 and think I may be due for another showing. :thumbsup2

I hope you get a chance to try Raglan Road again sometime. I really enjoyed eating there this year - especially the bread pudding.

I look forward to seeing what you thought of Narcoossee's - it was one of my favorite meals on my last trip!

Wow, you guys sure got a lot done that morning. I love early mornings at MK!

Looks like Emily wasn't the only one having trouble waking up. Mickey's dozing off .....

I total agree! I imagine this is what a Quiznos sub feels like as it passes under the broiler.

I TRY to get a shot of the dancing scene, which is my favorite part of the ride. Doesn't quite work out for me, though:

Darn! I hate that you miss out on a good view of the dancing scene if you aren't in one of the middle carts.

Yay!! A new update!! Great as always! I can't believe how much you guys got through, especially being there in the summer! But if you time everything right, you can breeze through some of these areas in no time.

Looking forward to your next update. We didn't get to eat at Columbia Harbor House this time, but it's on my list of places to try.

Great posts! :-)
Thank you!
I loved that queue! Even though it's not as interactive, there is so much to look at!
Yes, very cool! I really like the recent push to make the queues more interesting. Certainly a huge difference between Disney and a lot of other theme parks.
I think the theming and the mine scenes make up for how short it is.
Definitely. It doesn't really seem short to me, because there is so much to it. I REALLY love the dancing scene and the shadows of the Dwarfs marching through the mine!

That wait is the worst! So, how many times have you tweaked your FPs?

We had a very loose plan, meaning we had our FPs, and came up with the idea to hit Peter Pan's Flight first that morning, though that was something we've done previous years as well. We also pretty much knew we'd be trying to hit BTMRR and Splash without FPs, too, but were amazed at how easily we were able to do that. Pooh and Philharmagic were pretty much game time decisions, though.

This is what dozens of visits to the Magic Kingdom gets you - the ability to not plan, when you really are subconsciously utilizing things learned from years of meticulously-planned visits :)

Great theming on that ride! It quickly became one of our favorites!
I actually am keeping our resort preference to Jamaica. I'm hoping the bridge outage will keep everyone away and we'll have the place to ourselves!
That's one way of looking at it :)
This teaches me to take a few months off from the DIS... you're already on Day 8!
In your defense, I am getting through this TR quicker than usual :)
It's a delight to read another one of great reports, Jon.
Thanks! It's fun writing them, too. I don't really do enough writing, IMO. I'm usually too impatient to write anything long. At least with TRs, they're broken up by day, so I actually finish them (typically).
I'm impressed that you tried another resort - I've never been excited about Caribbean Beach given it's size, but then I thought CSR was pretty big, too. I also can't believe how much your kids grown! I can't believe Dylan is in high school now!
It's insane! He's almost as tall as me now. Emily turned 10 yesterday. Where have the years gone?

After 5 years at CSR, we decided a switch was in order. And we loved it. But where will we be next year? Back at CBR? Returning to CSR? Not at Disney at all?
Stay tuned! :)
I'm glad that you liked La Nouba - isn't it fantastic?! I saw it back in 2012 and think I may be due for another showing. :thumbsup2
I think it ruined the Festival of the Lion King forever for me, on account of it being so far above and beyond anything I've ever seen. I would love to see it again, or another one of the CdS shows.
I hope you get a chance to try Raglan Road again sometime. I really enjoyed eating there this year - especially the bread pudding.
That bread pudding is sooooo good!
I look forward to seeing what you thought of Narcoossee's - it was one of my favorite meals on my last trip!
We loved it the last time we ate there. Will it reach the high bar that visit set? Stay tuned!

Off topic, your username always reminds me of that joke about Mickey and the marriage counselor. I'll just leave it at that :)
Looks like Emily wasn't the only one having trouble waking up. Mickey's dozing off .....
He works hard, so I'll cut him some slack. Imagine you had to entertain guests in multiple parks, on 3 different continents, AND on the high seas. I would burnout within a week.
I total agree! I imagine this is what a Quiznos sub feels like as it passes under the broiler.
I'm usually alright with heat, but it gets to me more when I'm just standing, as opposed to walking around. Standing on that aquatic sardine can destroys me.
Darn! I hate that you miss out on a good view of the dancing scene if you aren't in one of the middle carts.
We could still see it. Don't let my horrible photo timing fool you :)
Yay!! A new update!! Great as always! I can't believe how much you guys got through, especially being there in the summer! But if you time everything right, you can breeze through some of these areas in no time.
Thank you! It was certainly an efficient morning. We'd done that before in April and May, but were surprised how we were able to pull it off in June!
Looking forward to your next update. We didn't get to eat at Columbia Harbor House this time, but it's on my list of places to try.
Not sure if I'll get to post anything tonight, but I'll certainly be working on updates during commercial breaks as the NFL forces me to stay up until 2:00 am watching the Vikings season opener :furious:

I'd stayed up way too late last night watching that horrible ending for the NY Giants! Hopefully your night goes better!
