exchanging vacation spots

Have any of you ever exchanged your DVC points for a trip to the beach, etc. We love to got to GUlf SHores and would gladly trade a few points to get there but I have not read of anyone doing this. Does anyone know if this has ever been done?

You should post something on the rent/trade board. You could also post something on TUG on the direct exchange list.

I have traded my home resort points for someone elses home resort for the 11 month booking window but have never done it for a non DVC resort.

Giving up 160 (1 BR) or 270 points (2BR) for Gulf Shores just seems wrong. The resorts there are OK at best though it's nice overall. Gulf shores should be an easy exchange using DVC whether by direct exchange or through II.

Start a full year or more out. You might be better off renting your points then getting a house or condo rental or even a timeshare for cash rental.

thanks for the info. We like to stay at the Beach Club in Fort Morgan. It rents for 250+ a night so thought it would be nice to find someone who owned there to trade with. Thanks again for the replies!! This is our first year so I am sure we will use all our points for the next year.

I'm sure there are several real estate type rental agencies for the area as well as you may be able to find indidual owners willing to rent for less. The entire Gulf coast has high and low seasons though the exact seasons will vary with location. Finding an owner who would be interested in a "fair" exchange might be tough. Again, I suggest renting out your points and paying cash for the stay there.
