Exchanging Old Park Hoppers for New Tickets or DVC AP Question

Hi All,

I am wondering if this makes the most sense. I have park hoppers from around 2005-2006 with two days left on each pass.

I need two 7 day passes (for one adult and one child) for our August trip- What is the best thing to do?

Are the old passes exchanged for their original value of what was paid years ago? Or are you credited for days at the current selling price?

Can I deal with this from home or must I wait for our trip?

I'm nervous that I am incorrect on the actual days left on the passses as well, Is there a way to confirm from home?

I would appreciate some direction- Thanks in advance:goodvibes

Chester Figment has an excellent thread about WDW tickets. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1452684

One question, were your park hoppers non-expiration tickets? Because unless they are then your days left on the tickets might have already expired. I think you could call Ticketing and find out what you have left on the cards.

The magic your way tickets can only be upgraded within 14 days of the first use, I believe.

There is a thread on the theme park board with lots of great information about tickets and upgrading.

Thank you for the response. Yes, they are non expiring. Can DVC look that up for me?

When did the MYW tickets begin? My tickets are from August 2005.

From Cheshire Figment's thread:

"Almost all tickets issued for admission to the WDW parks since January 2, 2005, are "Magic Your Way" (MYW) Tickets which allow the purchaser to select features for their tickets. "

"Any MYW ticket (other than Florida Resident Play Three or Play Four or any type of Annual Pass, discussed later) can be upgraded within 14 days of first use. There are no exceptions. This applies even if the ticket has the No Expire Option. If the first day of use is a Sunday, the last time an upgrade or modification may be done is 11:59:59pm of the second Saturday."

You can call MS but I think they will just transfer you to Ticketing. From the main WDW number it's one of the options.

The best thing to do is save what you have a buy the 7 day hoppers you need. The first 3 days on a ticket are the most expensive.

You cannot use them for a credit on a ticket, the exception is if they have never been used.

I'm not sure that's entirely correct. We just went down to WDW in January and took along our very old, 10 day park hoppers (we had non-expiring ones), with only a few days left...we had no idea how many days we used or how how many were left. Mine was one of the old paper cards, not the plastic ones issued now. We had each scanned at the ticket desk at BWV and we still had 2 days each! They had to call somewhere to get mine figured out, but it was done right atthe desk! We each added a five day to it and we each got our 7 day MYW passes. In essence, we were credited with 2 days of a 7 day pass.

I don't know if you can transfer the days left to another person, since we were all using our own tickets. It seems like it should be possible to do that, but, once we added our days, those tickets were not transferrable again...they had to be used by the person whose name was on the new ticket, since the biometrics are set with first use at the gate...and we didn't pay the upcharge for the non-expiring kind, since we knew we would be using all 7 days.

I hope this helps you get things figured out. Have fun when you go! :thumbsup2

I believe dzorn's statement only applied to MYW tickets over 14 days old and the statement is also my understanding. Older tickets can be converted in many cases.

I'd also vote for keeping these tickets for late and getting something else for this trip. I wonder if an AP might be a better option then try to get a second trip out of it. I've decided that MYW tickets with a non expiring option are rarely a good choice, with exceptions of course. Just buy what you need this trip, esp if you need 7 days anyway.

You got pixie-dusted. At this time, the policy is that the *only* tickets that can be upgraded in any way are MYW tickets within the first 14 days of first use, or before. That includes the old ParkHopper and ParkHopper Plus passes---they can only be used as-is with any remaining entitlements, they cannot be applied to longer passes. What's more, you are *never* supposed to be able to extend a ticket past 10 days total. You might still find a CM willing to bend the rules for you, but I would not count on it.

Here are the Cheshire Figment FAQs regarding these points:

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=18654362&postcount=7
http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=18654397&postcount=8

So, OP: the only thing you can use those two days for is two days' admission, unless you get very very lucky with a CM willing to play ball.

Thanks for the replies.....

I am looking at my tickets and they say 08/05/2005 and 278.00 on them. That must have been the purchase date as we were not there until late August to use them.

Are they even MYW tickets? I think I remember reading August 2005 or August 2006 as a significant date in Cheshire's thread.:)
