How easy (or hard) is it to do an exchange? My sister wants to use her points for her honeymoon in Hawaii but wants to nail down a specific time. She is also concerned about being able to check out which ever resort she stays at. How does she need to do this? We all just bought DVC this past year and none of us have used it yet so we're not sure how to do anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Are you able to give them specific dates for your vacation when you want to exhange?

Hawaii can be an easily change if you just want Hawaii.

but it sounds like your daughter wants one of the nicer resorts.

to get the nicer resorts (per Dean) it is best to start as early as possible - like 2 years before she goes.

since this is probably not possible - she has to decide what she will take.

I might since this is a special occasional - go with the concierge collection - yes more points - but you know the hotels is a good one.

Plus since this is a hotel - you are much more likely to get it when you want.

with the timeshares - they are exchanges - so the member of II who owns the timeshare you want must exchange it to II for you to get it.

Hawaii pays in their fees as much as DVC does. So unless she is going off season - she may not find one that she really likes.

Just depends sorry!

II - World passport - are exchanges - the exchange at the resort you are requesting must be made before you can get it.

Concierge are hotels - these can be made with or not waiting - they cost more points because they are hotels.

just a suggestion...

You could rent out your points and use the money for a place of your choice. That way you could nail down the date.

Sometimes renting can be a huge pain though. I've had frustrations with it, but ended up with 3 wonderful renters!

I responded to your post on another thread. It is difficult to expect a match before 6 months out and most resorts don't even allow deposits until 12 months out. There are exceptions and one in HI that is an exception is Kona Coast on the Big Island which allows 2 years out.

The best approach to this scenario is to book a cancelable reservation then try for an exchange that matches that time frame. Of course you could rent out the points and use the money. Even for CC or BVTC options, you can't book too far out, I think it's 6 months in most cases.

She took Kona Coast. Is it a nice resort? The website photos look pretty nice.

I hear it's a nice resort. A couple of DIS members have stayed there and can comment further.
