Ok, I would go to Poland, and I would want Lech Walesa to guide me and just tell me how Communism fell under his watch! DH and I are both of Polish heritage and going to Poland, and Gdansk is something on our wish list.

Today is the first time that we will meet my daughter's teacher, see where her class is...since she is starting junior kindergarten. So today's QOTD is-

For the first day of school, did your parents do anything special for you? Do you do anything special for your kids? Or, does anyone have any special ideas on things that I could do with my daughter-keeping in mind that I do have my son, so it needs to be something sweet and simple, and done at home.

:grouphug:
Have a good day Patsy! It's tough watching your first go off to school for the first time. (And the second child ...and the last!) I do have pictures of each DS getting on the bus his first day of school.
Me, I can remember my first day of kindergarten, I went kicking and screaming, I didn't want to be there! It all worked out, though!:lmao:

Too long ago to remember for me ;)

I think for my kids, we just took a picture of them in their new clothes heading out and I took them to school.

For my first day of school I remember my mother walking me and I also remember not wanting to stay there -- and it was only 1/2 day kindergarten! I wanted her to walk me everyday, for years. I guess I was a big baby. We lived in the city and across the street from our apt. was the side entrance to the convent and church and the walkway to the school. You could see this from our windows, so she wanted to just watch me from there, but I insisted she walk me all the way through 2nd grade.

For my kids I took their picture with their new outfit, backpack, lunch box. We had visited the classroom ahead of time and met the teacher on Meet Your Teacher Day. On the first day I walked them into their rooms and I kissed them and left. A few teary looks, more so on my part. By the end of the week they knew the way to their room so I dropped them off at the door in the car loop.

From another perspective, as an elementary teacher I can tell you I have seen quite a few first week dramas. I've seen parents crying harder then the kids. I've seen the principal trying to pry a kid off the exit door as they run after their parents. I've seen staff members chasing runners. From my experience I can tell you that the absolute worst thing you can do for your child is stand in the doorway of the classroom crying. They see you crying and know that must mean something is bad about this situation. The transition to class for them goes much smoother if you take your tears outside.

I don't think that my parents did anything special for me. I took pictures of my kids on their first day of school.

How did things go today, Patsy?

:rotfl: last night was hectic and I didn't realize till I read the QOTD and this again that I put today instead of tomorrow. So, Shayla's open house/orientation is actually tomorrow afternoon. Tonight, she is at a birthday party sleepover, and it is her first time sleeping anywhere without us, so we will see how she does. I am waiting for a phone call for me to pick her up, but we will see how it goes.
I will take a picture of her before she goes to school for her first day :). And, maybe make her a special snack for when she comes home. My friend had sent her a special gift for her since she will start school, so she will be very happy to open that present when she comes home. She will soon be a big girl :( :).

Also, I will keep signing her up for exchanges here, and when she comes home and there is an exchange waitiing for her, I'm sure she will think that she is having an extra special day :).

So, I had recieved my snack exchange today and I had recieved some very yummy treats. I am now snacking on some mint Milanos, and before that had a Nestles Stixx-yum. So, today's QOTD is-

Do you usually snack while you are on the computer? What are you favorite snacks?

No I don't snack while on the computer. My favorite snack is plain vanilla ice cream, so I don't keep it in the house very often and when I do, I buy the no sugar added.

I do snack when I'm at the computer, and sometimes I eat lunch here too. My favorite snack is sharp cheddar cheese and crackers.

I don't snack at the computer. I do eat lunch here some days.
My favortie snack is PB&J or chocolate

I don't usually snack while in front of the computer but sometimes I grab a cookie or two. Now if you had asked about snacking in front of the tv......:lmao:

My favorite snack is chocolate covered peanuts.

Wow! I need to catch up!!

Trip: to Italy with Giada De Laurentis or Ireland with Michael Flatley..people who know the places I'd be visiting!! They know where the good food is!:rotfl:

School: First day of school for me as a kid...I think my mom just took my picture. My kids: I homeschool and school is kind of always in session! We have NOT back to school parties actually. We'll be celebrating our "NOT back to school" this year at WDW!!!!

Snacks at the computer: YEP!! I love gummy bears!! But I eat lots of other types of snacks too. I sometimes eat breakfast at the computer or sometimes lunch.

on another note - I just received the school books I ordered on ebay. They came in a Toasted Corn Cereal box!! Not a wrapped box a plain ol' cereal box!! The mail lady must think I'm a little loony!! I can honestly say I've NEVER seen that before!!

We had just returned back from Shayla's open house/orientation and she is already liking school. She and I both like her teacher very much.

Here is todays QOTD-
What did you enjoy the most about the month of July?

And, don't forget to change your calendars for a new month ;).

Nancy

I enjoy the weather and all the cookouts. :teeth:

DH was off for two weeks and did all the cooking, cleaning and laundry. Plus he did a house repair that I have been asking for for ever.

We had our 4 generation party at our Cape May home and neighborhood! DSis hired a professional photographer and we have a great picture of the group already up in our family room. It was our first "all 3 DGC" visit to Cape May...they're making another trip down this week, and here I am in Ohio. I actually love the fact that they love the area enough to make the trip from MA to meet with their friends!!! We bought the home 9 years ago because I missed my NJ family and friends, and now our family is even more spread out, but Cape May as a vacation destination has something for all of us to love!!!

I love seeing my family and after them, my friends came and that was the best 3 weeks of July that I ever spent!

My DMom is failing physically, and so the vacation was a great one because SHE was there. She lives in Cape May. She bought her place after we did because after living in northern NJ for so many years, Bayonne, she was ready to retire to NJ's bit of Paradise!

Best thing that happened in July was my trip to Jacksonville to see my daughter (she moved there after college). I miss her so much. In fact, I am in her room now, where we have the computer set up. I like that I have all her things in here still -- feels like she is coming home from her friend's house any minute, instead of the reality of her being on her own and a 5 1/2 hour car ride away.
