I am not sure, as i have never been to an egg hunt where they had a special egg.

If you are doing the egg hunt for just children then i would have small candies/toys in the eggs and maybe $5 in the special egg.

If it were for a child, then five dollars is enough for them to purchase something small. If it were for an adult, then a ten dollar gift card towards a fav restaurant would be good.

I used to do Thanksgiving for about 20 and Christmas dinner for about 8, though not any more.

Thanksgiving was turkey (25 lbs), and a small ham (10 lbs) mashed potatoes, stuffing, 2 veggies, candied yams, gravy, rolls. Dessert was at least 3 different pies.

Christmas was ham, mashed potatoes, 2 veggies, candied yams, gravy, rolls. Dessert was at least 3 different pies.

One year at Christmas we had lasagna for 8.

Now its just John and I, and its a small turkey for Thanksgiving and a ham steak for Christmas. However I make a dinner almost every night.

How often do you cook big family dinners? What do you usually make?
I've never cooked a big family dinner all on my own. When I have everyone over I cook the main course and we all chip in with the rest.

Thanksgiving has always been the traditional turkey, dressing, mashed potatos, gravy, sweet potatos, green bean casserole, maybe a corn casserole and some kind of jello salad with rolls and pecan pie/apple pie. Every now and then my mom likes to have ham also with the turkey.

Looking over your question I realized that you asked how often do we have big family dinners. Well, at the usual times, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, sometimes birthdays. On Joe's side of the family, we used to get together at Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day too but now that the nieces and nephews are getting married and having children of their own, Joe's brothers and sisters are going to their kids places instead of us all getting together. I miss those days!

Christmas is another story. We've had ham, mexican food, italian, pork roast, etc. and whatever sides we want to go with the main course.

Not very often, but most recent include:

Taco Bar / Mexican Night

Crab Cakes / Clams Night

Cornish Hen!

During the usual times of the year, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas. Tomorrow I'm cooking a large turkey I've named Turkeyzilla due to it's size (31.5lbs). I'm cooking early for Easter, as we are heading to the Gulf Islands during Easter to stay with DH MIL. We are having up to 10 people to share the bird with tomorrow. Usually have turkey, DH's rice dressing, spuds, yams, orange marinated carrots and apple pie for desert. It takes me 2 days to prep and cook it and another 30 mins for it to be devoured.

At night when you are in bed, what types of sounds do you hear? Ex. if you live near a road, do you hear the sounds of cars? .....

Just a car or two, in the summer sometimes a dog or two and on Memorial Day and July 4th fireworks, even though they are illegal.

Occasionally a car, dogs barking, coyotes, the wind, birds, a police/ambulence siren.

Today is going to be a long and busy day so I am posting tomorrows QOTD now.

What are your plans for Easter? Are you prepared for any plans that you have? Do you put together an Easter basket for your kids? ...... What are some signs of Spring that you look forward to?

We're going to eat dinner at my parent's house. It will be all adults this year, no children. No Easter baskets this year.

I look forward to Spring flowers and green leaves on the trees.

No plans for Easter, i am thinking of getting Starla an Easter basket.

I want warm weather and i want it to last longer then a day.

We don't have any family nearby, so it's normally just the 5 of us, unless it's a holiday and my parents come up. I love to cook for a lot of people.

It's pretty quiet. I guess you can hear traffic from the turnpike and another highway at night--can't hear it during the day.

I give the boys baskets, but it's not all candy anymore. I put video games, clothes, etc now along with a little candy. I'll cook dinner, not sure who all will be here. Probably 9 of us.

Spring...we have a yellow tulip magnolia tree out front. It only blooms once a year in the spring. The blossoms last a few days and then it's just green for the summer. The buds are out.

I am going to hide Easter Eggs for my DFI and yes he will get an Easter Basket too. But his Easter Basket is a lot different than normal. He will get the Peanut Butter Eggs and other candy, but also Corvette T-shirt, Motor Oil, New Windshield wipers, and other car related items.

For dinner we are headed to my sisters. I have 10 nieces and nephews, so this is going to be a big Easter Egg hunt day as usual.

I look forward to having the perfect weather to put the top down on the car! That is what I call spring…

As for yesterdays QOTD, we hear cars, airplanes sometimes loud enough to rattle the windows, and crows.

I did the traditional turkey dinner on Sat, as we are heading to my MIL's place for Easter weekend in the Gulf Islands. I do make up Easter baskets for the kids, but am not putting in as much as I used to. This year they are getting a stuffed bunny puppet that I stuffed a mesh bag of chocolate Easter eggs into (DH almost lost it when I told him what I did:rotfl2:), some Lego, and a few other things. In lieu of a egg hunt, which always ends in a war, as they are so competitive, have bought a large chocolate egg that I'm going to hide somewhere in my MIL's house for them to find. The island has a egg hunt that they will be going to as well, so they will be getting lots of sweets this weekend.

Oh yeah all kinds of air planes, we are under a flight pattern. And we also have the depot helicopters fly over head, boy are they noisy and they really rattle the windows. Both the planes and helicopters fly so low that it seems like they are going to land on the roof.
