Exchangers, Hawaii is under a tsunami warning. It had first been a tsunami watch, then upgraded to warning. I no longer have phone service, and hoping that I do have my internet connection. If something happens, I will not have access to a computer....the places that has internet places as a pay to use service may get hit if something happens. I am hoping that nothing does happen, but just wanted to give you folks the heads up while I can.

My family and I here are safe, and we had gotten the necessary items. Worried about everyone else here, especially for my sister, and her husband on the other island who needed to go into work, and they are close to the water areas.

Will keep you folks up to date. Siren is going off again.

Stay safe Patsy.
DH is flying to Asia today with a stop in Tokyo....heard they had the 8.8 earthquake in Japan. That is what set off the tsumani

Toyko airport is closed so DH has to find another way to get to China.....he is headed to Seattle right now to deal with it.

Very sad. The pictures and videos aren't looking so good.
I am a CA girl, so have been through a few, they are not fun!!

Stay safe Patsy, saying lots of prayers for you and your family and everyone else dealing with this!!

I thought about scrapbooking--even bought some things, but never did it. And now I'm 15 years behind. No way to catch up! :goodvibes

I used to make cards, my neighbor sold Stampin Up and again...passing fad. They will all be sold at the yard sale next month!

Love to craft, tho. And I Xstitch, crochet and I'm going to try Sweedish/Huck weaving. Looks interesting. Need to learn how to knit.

I don't scrapbook or make cards.

Patsy, hoping everything is ok .

Thinking of everyone affected by the earthquake and tsunami. Thought of you Patsy and your family and was wondering what side of the island you lived on. Saw the footage on the news this morning and can't imagine what they are going through in Japan.

Thinking of you, Patsy, and everyone affected by this terrible earthquake.

Hoping that all continues to be good for Patsy and family!

I'm hoping that you stay safe Patsy. DH and I got caught in a 12+ foot wave at our fav dive site many years ago, and believe me it was no fun (thanks to a Fast Cat, our infamous ferries running through the pass 7 mins before we surfaced). We got wash boarded for over 5 mins before the waves died down enough that we could get out. We were experienced divers, so we were able to handle it, I'd hate to be a newbie going through what we did. I really feel for the people in Japan who got hit badly, and my prayers go out to them in their times of trouble.
As for scrapbooking, I got into it around 6 years ago, but it's really expensive to do, even though I keep looking for bargains. I want to get out of it, but the kids insist that I keep it up, as they look at it that it show's them what they've done and achieved over the years. So I'm stuck keeping it up, even though I don't want to anymore. Just can't justify the expense of it when money's tight.
Update: We are on Tsuanmi watch too. Am hoping that it won't amount to much, as I'm on what would be considered a flood plain surrounded by a well maintained walled dike system. Hopefully the waves won't amount to much.

Thank you everyone. We are safe. We had gotten the necessary items, and gas to get ready for tsunami if it were to come. My initial feeling that I felt last night was the same that I had last year. I could feel my body shaking, but then I had to figure out what to do. So my daughter and I had gone to the store to stock up, and DH went to get gas, and filled up buckets, containers,....with water. I tried to stay up as long as I could to watch the news coverage, and get updated information from Facebook since the local radio station was sending us info. I set my alarm to wake up around the time the tsunami was first going to hit. But I think my eyes opened just for a few seconds, and I could not handle it, and went to sleep. Woke up to see footage of the terrible situation in Japan, and what happened in Hawaii. Luckily the tsunami warning had turned into an advisory, and it is now all clear. We even had an earthquake here caused by our volcano on this island, but it did not have any aftermath.

With this sort of natural disaster, we would be fortunate that things could be sent in to us-one postive out of all this if it were to happen. But like the situations if we were to have the barges on strike, they would not be able to ship things in to us via boat, and the price of everything would have to be sent to us by air, which would hike up the price of things. This has happened once or twice while I was a DIS member, and I still remember DIS exchangers who were willing to send me toilet paper if needed. It sounds funny, but the price of toilet paper had gone up triple the price during that time. Even last night, I purchased two sets of 24 rolls of toilet paper, and it costed me $32.00. :sad2: Might have to participate in the "T" exchange, and see if anyone will send me some toilet paper. :rolleyes1 There are always pluses, and negatives of living in an isolated area.

Thank you everyone for your concerns.

Patsy, I don't mind sending you TP or anything else you might need, just let me know, don't hesitate please. :lovestruc

Thanks Roxy.

Been watching footage, and pictures posted by friends, local radio station.... and just posted a picture of Ali'i Drive of the water surge on my Facebook page.

We had waves of 3 feet, and that's about it. Tofino was evacuated, but there ended up being no damage. The advisory is still in effect though. Heard that California suffered some damage from the Tsunami, how much I haven't heard. Advising people to stay away from the coast, which is hard when you live on an island, and a rather flat one at that, and live less than a mile from the water.

True. During this situation and the last tsunami warning, many cars were parked on the side of the road, and people did not have anywhere else to go. Just imagine if you were a tourist here with no car, you would be stuck unless you had gotten some type of help.
