exchange rate

well i havn't brought any yet so i think that means it will continue to fall :guilty: :guilty:

it's on the rise this week. Perhaps you missed it.
It's rising against the Euro. And it's expected to keep rising against the Euro(i didn't pay attention to what it's doing against the British Pound).

Please, please, please let it rise again! if it hits 1.86 again I'll definately get mine now

rose back up to 1.75 today on the Marks and Spencers website.

Sorry to disappoint you all, but while some days it'll rise and some it'll fall, the general trend is toward falling at the moment. US interest rates are on the rise while UK ones are stable, so I think it'll get down as low as about $1.70 by August. But hey, remember it was as low as $1.35 a few years back, so anything is better than that right?

DH is in London just now and managed to get a rate of 1.795 today for the changing the kids money. Wooo Hooo :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Thats is what is worrying us we are just about to buy but not signing until we go out in July :guilty:

I know people have paid well below what the rate is at the moment so don't like to complain but even if it just stays the same as it will make a huge difference to our purchase

If you habe a nationwide cc you would have got $1.80 to pound at end of bussnes yesterday so would be £555.55 but if you used anyouther card think it would be 2.75% less 9more like the tourist rate $1.75 to pound so it would cost £5714.30 if the transaction went througth today would have got a slightly better rate as pound went up a bit (think it was to do with the oil stocks in staes) we booked smoe nights on cash at pop (save on points)and as the pound was good paid the full 2 nights there and then.Have been folowing pound dollar past 11 years (roughtly time we have been going ) and it seams to have a trend in going up in the winter and coming down in the summer

Hi guys, I spoke to my brother-in-law who is a banker on Jersey. He said that current trends show that the $ is getting stronger and stronger. He also said that the analysts are predicting that this will be the case for quite some time now.

He told me to exchange as much as I can as soon as I can to get the best deals. I just wanted to share this with you all and with this in mind, do any of you know the best place to get the best exchange rate at the moment?

Thanks all.

We have just got this card especially for the USA. How do you go about getting the money, can you go in a Nationwide building society or do you have to do it on the net. It is a really good rate compared to what I have seen.

Many thanks. :)

To my knowledge, you can't withdraw $$ cash with the card and benefit - it's just a case of using the card to pay for things.

If you withdraw cash with the card, it will be treated as as a cash withdrawal which carries a charge, and I'm not sure you would even get the $ rate if you withdrew cash in the US.

I once used the card to pay for $ from Travelex and had to pay the cash withdrawal fee : (
The way around this would be to open a Nationwide Flex Account. It's a current account - you can withdraw in the US using the debit card, and benefit from having cash + the excellent $ rate.

Thanks Kirstie. I miss read the post I was quoting on.

I was thinking I could get travellor's cheques at this rate from Nationwide and cash. I think my hubbie opened an account with them, then we had to open a credit card account. I will have a check through the buff we got from them.

I weakened and bought my dollars today - got $1.762 from M&S which beat all the high street retailers and also beat onlinefx who were $1.75

I'm happy :)

Are there still certain days of the week when the tourist rates tend to be better/worse?

I seem to remember the beginning of the week is often a better time to buy foreign currency (within the general trend of the rate rising or falling at that time). Is this still the case, does anyone 'in the know' know? ;)
