Hey guys

I've just noticed that for the first time in ages travelex are offering the magic 1.80 exchange rate for US$ travellers cheques. Time for me to change ready for August...

we are thinking of using travelex this time, although I notice that you can't order more than £2500 at a time. If we ordered now to collect on the 5th Augusut, would we get the rate they are quoting now! what if it goes down (we hope not)? If we get at the rate offered on the day you order I might just hang on a few days and see if it goes up or down, by the way the Post Office are only offereing 1.7821 today. oooooh another question, am I right in what i read on travelx website for a one off fee of £3.50 they will buy back any t/c for the same price they sold them to you for - that seems like a brilliant deal to me.

i got my $$ from m&s on friday at a rate of 1.797 and then it goes and carries it's self up to 1.803:rolleyes: still i would have only got $2 more if i had waited untill today so i should'nt grumble:D

Can you order money form M&S if you don't have one of their credit cards? I went through the whole process to order money online today only to find it would only accept one of their cards!!!

Thanks

You can walk in to any of the bigger M&S stores and buy over the counter without one of their cards. This is what we did a month or two back.
Made the mistake of buying all the cash and travellers with just my credit card (0%), so they then insisted that I sign all the travellers cheques, and dw wasn't allowed to sign any. Very cross...
They've never insisted on that before, and dw and I have always signed equal amounts. Just hope I'm not incapacitated at any point and dw is left with no funds!

yeah I bought some money a while back and got caught out too - had to sign blimming tons of travellers cheques!!!!

Thanks again

I had never really used a large amount of travellers cheques until this year i went. There was me at 3am of the morning we are going, (we left home at 4.30am) sitting at my desk signing travellers cheques furiously and staring at my ipod hoping that it would charge before we left hehe.

Coleraine branch of Ulster Bank was offering $1.842 on traveller checks today, but since they only sell to account holders then that's the yardstick which I go to Thomas Cook with. They usually match the best bank rates to within a cent or so. Even at $1.83 it looks good to me!!

Hi

The Travelex Buy Back guarantee (£3.50) is only valid for currency returned within 31 days of purchase. I managed to get mine at 1.803 a couple of days ago, but we're not going for 3 weeks so the time frame will have expired on that offer before we return - just have to make sure we don't bring any back!!:hyper:

Thanks March Hare, I didn't realise about the 31 days from purchase as my new pc won't let me click on links in windows (its a real pain). We must be going at about the same time, your staying at Indian Creek and us at Indian Point!

Hi again

Just found out from a friend that you can get $1.8124 at www.onlinefx.co.uk (Friday afternoon 4.50pm) - thats the best for a long time, and currently better than M&S and Travelex.

Mark

That sounds a really good rate, has anyone used them before, its good that they deliver direct to your door!
