Exactly what happens at the Castaway Club Reception?

We are planning our second cruise. Once I get the go-ahead from DH, I'm going to finalize the plans with DU. We provided our Castaway Club numbers. Now I'm curious about exactly what happens at the Castaway Club Reception(?)

Free drinks and munchies....introduction of captain and senior officers, a little socializing. The problem is that the party keeps growing, so there is less and less chance for any real interaction. The coconut shrimp is wonderful. Total time 45-60 minutes. come and go as you see fit.

The party tends to be larger on the Magic than the Wonder. Sometimes I've seen it spread into multiple nightclubs. I like to get there early because lately it's been hard to find a table when we arrive later. At least they aren't as large as RCCL's yet...when we sailed on Radiance, literally over half the ship was there.
The snacks are tasty and it's a chance for free booze Plus, we usually manage to get a photo of the captain to add to our gallery.

How do they know who is coming in the door? Could the party be over run by people just "stopping" by even though it is their 1st cruise, or do you have to show you CC card at the door? Or maybe we are on a list?

You will recieve an invitation in your stateroom that you may bring that will grant you entrance.

You get the invitation, but they have never asked to see it from us yet.

I've seen people dress up, but for the most part it is very casual. The dressy ones are probably the ones who have early seating dinner. On the 3-day, the reception is right after the CC sailway, so we don't have much time to get all dolled up. We just wear jeans and t-shirts.

I have attended sveral of these receptions, all on the 3 or 4 day Wonder. I have never seen coconut shrimp. I even looked for them earlier this month on my 3 day. Are they only on the 7 day?

We had really nice time talking with the upper captains on the Wonder. But a friend of ours went on the magic and has been said already, it was a larger crowd split into two groups. He didnt sound as positive as we were about the reception that we had on the Wonder.
