I didn't know that there were rattlesnakes in Florida at all! One of the few things good about NOT living there, I guess. :p

We've got pygmy rattlers and diamondback rattlers. We've also got black snakes which take care of the pygmay rattlers, and I have DH who takes care of the diamondback rattlers.

Name the nightmare pest and we've got them in SW Florida.

I totally hate snakes-- to the point in a pet store I've had a panic attack (the whole 9 yards) when one started going "crazy" in it's tank. Anyhow-- I've told this story before--- I was driving home from work this past fall. Something coming out of the vents on the dash caught my eye. I really thought it was a "bug". Anyhow, next thing I know a snake comes slithering out of the vent onto the dash board. I somehow pulled the car over and grabbed my purse and got out (all the while watching this stupid thing). I unbuckled my neice from her carseat and walked a few hundred feet up the road to call home. I thought my cell phone was in my purse, but it was in the car (it must of fallen out). Anyhow, I go back to the car and the snake is crawling all over!!! At the same time DS's school principle pulls over and asks if I need help. I didn't want to tell her there was a snake in the car, mostly because I was afraid she'd get it out, then I'd still have to drive it home. So, I told her I was having car problems and she gave me a ride home. Only thing is she reached in and got the carseat out (never knowing about or seeing the snake). DH did go back and get the car, and get the snake out. I still to this day have not gotten back into that car!! The worst part is, it's still new and I can't get rid of it yet. So, DH and I switched vehicles and that's the way it's going to stay!!

One other yucky snake story. My parents had a pick-up truck-- on the way home from camping one time a bird was flying over them w/ a snake hanging from it's "mouth". It dropped the snake (about 3 feet long) into the bed of the truck. The bed of the truck was filled with all the camping gear. As well as the "back" window being open. Both my parents were freaking out. They unloaded the truck w/ long sticks and such.

Eww!!!

So should I not mention the scorpion I found in the house? Talk about freaky!!!!

Oh my, yes....this was 100% a rattlesnake. GIANT scary rattlesnake!!

While our car went over it, we didn't squish it...my bf watched it in the mirror to see what it was doing, and it curled up to "protect" itself. YUUUUCK! I was seriously afraid it was going to get caught up in the car and get us!! :earseek:

And no, there are NO SNAKES that are visable at AKL.....God help me if there is!!!!   :faint:

Ditto. Several years ago my daughter found an Eastern Milk snake in the middle of a busy street near where we live. She brought it home and I nearly had a stroke. It looked a lot like a Coral (poisonous) snake. After finding out it wasn't, I took it to a large wooded area nearby and released it.

What a beautiful animal but in deference to those who don't care for snakes, I won't post a picture. :teeth:

We have black snakes and rattlesnakes (along with water moccasins and copperheads) here.

Here is my snake story - I went to turn the dryer on and it would not come on. So, I called my DH in to take a look at it. He calls his dad to come up and help him fix it. They work and work on it. They take our the linen vent and leave it out. They give up on trying to fix the dryer (it was pretty late and decided to wait until the next day). I go into the utility room - being the woman I am - I am going to fix the dryer - LOL. Well, I see this old dirty sock hanging out of the vent on the dryer. I call to my sweet, wonderful husband - WHY did you put an old black dirty sock in the vent - at about that time this old dirty sock starts to move back into the vent. I scream - IT'S NOT A SOCK - IT IS A SNAKE. Now of course by time my DH gets back in there - the old dirty sock is long gone back into the dryer. But I did convince him after about 5 LONG minutes that there was SOMETHING in our dryer. So he calls my father in law back up and they decide to take the back off the dryer to see if there really is anything there. In a few minutes I hear my dear father -in-law, who is much more scared than I am of snakes - yell, oh my gosh, look at that thing. My DH proceeds to pull, and pull, and pull. When all in done, they are the proud parents of a 5 foot black snake. My sweet husband picks it up and takes it outside into the woods, hopefully never to be seen again - although the snakes cousins, brothers and sisters all live under my house to this day and each year I am the proud owner of a new 5 foot black snake getting into my house.

Now, I HATE, DESPISE, PETRIFIED of snakes. But our nice government being so concerned about rattlesnakes becoming extinct (spelling?) used their wise judgment and about 2 years ago turned loose about 2000 rattlesnakes up on the mountain. Well, you guessed it, these rattlesnakes have now got cousins, brothers and sisters and they are finding their way down to our house and other peoples houses. I really dont care how soon these little creatures become extinct (sp?). Sooner would be better for me.;)
