All of the differing viewpoints on this thread is exactly why I load every dish, mug, glass, and utensil we plan to use on our trip as soon as we arrive and run the dishwasher on check-in day. I keep them separate from the others. I just don't trust that others have cleaned them.

I do run the dishwasher before leaving, but I guess I should leave it if mousekeepers have to restart it. I just hate leaving extra work for mousekeepers. I also take out trash and collect all towels and put in the tub. I used to strip the beds until someone mentioned that they have a special way to strip them. I don't want to cause them more work.
We hand wash glassware and utensils just before we use them for the first time. We don’t trust they’ve been properly cleaned. We’re also 2, so we don’t use a lot of things on most trips. Things that are going into the oven or on the stove are fine for us.

This had never occurred to me before. I might have to start this practice, too. The thought of some random person previously hand washing the dishes I might be using, instead of using the dishwasher, kinda creeps me out now.
I agree!!! I’m disheartened to hear people are hand-washing AND putting them back in the cabinet. I’ll never trust dishes at DVC villas again.

I really do think Disney should have a posted policy on this, I truly think could help save some time it takes to get rooms ready but in the end it could also end up saving water too. Im happy to load it and start it but Im also happy loading and not starting it if they are just going to re run it anyway. I honestly used to think they just swapped out for clean dishes and didnt bother with running the DW since that takes a long time, it was the ultra late check in that got me thinking about the DW.

I guess I’ll leave the torn and empty DW packet above the DW so they know I used the detergent when I leave the villa. 👍

I have no clue how true this may be, either now or in 1997 but when we bought the DVC sales rep told us that regardless of how it appeared, part of the cleaning process in every 1BR+ unit is to run the self-cleaning cycle in the oven which takes 4 hours. FWIW
