I think the conventional wisdom is that lining up to the right of the castle, on the path that leads to Cosmic Ray's and the Mad Tea Party, is best for rope dropping Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. There will be a large group feeding directly from there into the queue.

For SDMT rope drop, don't you go through the Castle or down the right side of the Castle on the path that leads to Mad Tea Party and Cheshire Cat Cafe?

Use the walkway and bridge that would take you straight to the teacups.......you and 500 of your closest friends will go between the Teacups and Pooh by bearing to your left and that is how they start filling the queue. A CM will most likely lead the pack.

Our priorities at HS are MMRR, MFSR, RnRC, TSM. Thoughts on what to hit first? We have two days, so we could do MMRR first one day and MFSR the other day, but was hoping if we get what we want accomplished on the first day, our second day we wouldn't RD.

regarding MK rope drop, is there a huge difference in the time they let TTC people arrive to MK vs CR walkway vs onsite busses?

Wondering which would be better as far as being as close to front of the pack as possible for MK rope drop for offsite guests…
1) Ride share to TTC to arrive at parking lot an hour before 9 AM opening?
OR
2) Breakfast at The Wave with a 7:30 AM ressie (9 AM park opening) and walk to MK as soon as we are done eating? If we are fast eaters and have the first reservation time slot of the day is it possible to eat and be done fast enough to walk over as soon as they open the walkway?

We’ve only ever stayed onsite and are rope drop pros so I’m worried about the timing.

Not onsite, but doing similar research, since Im staying at the Dolphin and their busses drop off at TTC - current official disney answer on their website is that the monorail/ferry doesn't start running from the TTC until 30 minutes before official opening time - so it would be 830 for a 9am opening. I'd like to know if people have found that to be true, because I think based on people's trip reports, rope drop is before you would arrive in that case.

Since I'm not a speedy walker, rope drop is probably wasted on me, so I might do the ferry/monorail thing anyway because I think my WDW first-timer granddaughter would think it was neat. But if the busses from the YC , that I can walk to, which bypass TTC, get there quite a bit earlier, then I might make a different decision.

From the TTC how long does the ferry take? How long does the monorail take?

I last went in April, but I believe this still holds true, walkers from CR and GF are let in about the same time as buses start arriving, about 45 minutes ahead of official opening time. This is also when they open the toll plaza to cars. That gives walkers and buses an advantage, and if you get to security early enough, you can get ahead of most of the guests bused in as well. I'd say you'd need to be on the path to MK by 8-8:15 to be in the front of the crowd..

I am sure the answer is in here somewhere, but can't find it and figured I could just ask. I've read in this thread and elsewhere that the parks "open" (or they let you in) about 45 minutes before the posted opening time. Does this mean the gates open so people can head to the holding areas (as has always been the case)? Or are they for some reason actually "dropping the rope" 45 minutes before the scheduled opening time (with people being allowed to holding areas earlier)? Thanks.

MK, Epcot and DHS are holding guests and doing a more traditional rope drop.

AK is allowing guests to enter and ride early.

Man, I have read the first post several times and still don't see that info. Assuming by traditional rope drop then you mean that MK, Epcot and DHS are allowing people to enter 45 mins before gate time and they are dropping the ropes at gate time, but that AK is just opening up early.

So we have been almost annual visitors since 2012 and generally rope drop anyway so it's really NBD for us to wake up and be there to get on a few attractions with minimal waiting. But I'm seeing now that people are saying now that rope drop is crazy and "everyone" is rope dropping. Is it really much different vs. how it normally is?

Are people showing up to bang things out and leave before the parks get too crowded? Does attendance typically die down later in the day? Just trying to get a sense of how things might be for our trip coming up in August.

I don't have time to wade through dozens of posts which may or may not contain the information I am looking for, which is why I created my own thread.

Similar threads are consolidated to allow people to easily access similar information and save the same people writing their answers over and over. Nobody is forcing you to read it. It's your choice as the answers you're looking for are there.

Rope drop is still your best bet, esp if it's NPB to get up early. We were last at WDW the end of June and rope dropped DHS, MK (2x), and AK. Even those who didn't love the idea of getting up and going early said it was still was very worthwhile. (Was pretty much kicking myself for not doing the same on our one Universal day, lol.) Rope drop at WDW to us felt pretty organized, and we felt it was way less chaotic than pre-COVID, especially MK, (at least it was 2 weeks ago).

Plus, the afternoon (and in our experience that week, mostly late day/evening) rainstorms can disrupt even the best-laid plans.

Thanks for the insight. We are fine with getting up early, and it sounds like we don't really have to get to the park much earlier than normal vs what we have done in the past. It sounds like the only wild card is whether or not we drive to MK or take the bus, since it sounds like TTC transportation starts running too late to really get you in a good spot for drop. We'll have to play it by ear based on how early monorail and ferry transportation is up and running.

If you plan to line up at the tollbooths at MK, they let you do so earlier than DHS and AK - or at least they did in February and then in late June. Both trips we drove in and lined up about 30 minutes before the tollbooths opened at 8 a.m. and we usually do MK rope drop more than once per trip, so pretty consistent. We didn't really find driving to MK to be a huge disadvantage since we were towards the front of cars parking in the lots. But we also don't head to Fantasyland which could make the difference I guess (we're Frontier/Tomorrowland rope droppers).

I'd check to see what people are saying now though in case it recently changed in July.

Edited to clarify - MK opened at 8 a.m. in June, so we were at the tollbooth 6:30ish. We arrived at 7:30 and 7:40 in February for the 9 a.m. opening.

Heading down on Saturday and plan to rope drop basically every day of our trip. We’re staying at beach club and using Disney bussing. Do we need to walk over to Yacht Club to ensure we get on a bus in the morning or do they have dedicated bussing for Beach Club? I heard that they pick up at Yacht Club first, which would hose us in the morning…
