Everyone in the room has to purchase the DDP?

Is it an absolute rule that everyone staying in the same room must purchase the Disney Dining Plan if it's going to be purchased?

This poses a real problem for us because we, as a family of four used it in the past and it was an amazing savings for us. However, our plans next year call for my parents to maybe join us in a 2 br unit and not only do they not spend as much time and money eating out as we do...they also don't eat enough for it to be worth their while.

Is there any way possible for us to get the dining plan for our family but not for my parents? I know there's always the suspicion that people may try to take advantage of the plan. If that's the case, then that certainly ruins if for those of us who don't have that in mind and only want to purchase the plan for those who will use it.

thanks for any help,

Deb

Yes, everyone on the reservation is required to buy the DDP, or nobody buys it.

Why don't you book your family in a one bedroom and your parents in a studio and ask for them to be connecting? Then you could have the DDP and your parents wouldn't have to since they are separate reservations?

As the previous poster said, yes, everyone in the room must be on the DDP. The problem with getting a studio and one bedroom as separate reservations, though, is that it a)takes more points, if you figure the normal rental price at $10 per point, it will almost pay the DDP. b)There is no guarantee they will be connecting, unless it is booked as a 2 bedroom.

And if you link the reservation, it becomes one and everyone on the reservation must get the DDP.

The DDP isn't for everyone, so you may need to choose a different way to get your meals. If one of the adults in your party has an AP, you can purchase the Disney Dining Experience Card (DDE) for about $65 for 13 months of use. That gets a 20% discount on most table service dining and a few counter service dining. Plus if you like to have a cocktail with your meal (at restaurants that serve alcohol), you get the discount on that as well.

Your only options are to either get the DDP for all or none, get separate rooms or be dishonest. Separate rooms will cost you a few more points. Depending on the specifics of the stay, you might get it for everyone and use the credits yourself for dinner shows, multiple concierge meals or the like. Or you could look at other discount options and forego the DDP, which is our plan for May.

Thanks everyone, for your replies.

Actually, it's helped me to decide to go another route. I'm realizing that our daughter turns 9 in June of this year. So, we'll purchase APs next May when we go, then we'll use the AP again before it expires and before she has to pay adult prices!

And we'll be able to put the DDE discount to good use when we all go next May : )

Thanks again,

Deb

I think that rule is key to Disney making money on DDP. Require it for all nights and all people in the room, which puts alot of money into their "bank". Alot of people would like to "pick and choose" but if they allowed that people would "load up" on the nights they have the plan or share meals with the others not on the plan (if only the people on the plan ordered an appetizer or dessert, it would be impossible to prevent them from sharing it).
