We just got back from our Hawaii exchange and took another timeshare tour while in Kauai. (Hey for 50% off our helicopter ride we can sit through any 90 minute spiel.) Here's the interesting part... a lot of timeshare companies are adopting the whole point system like Disney's. In fact, the presentation even mentioned how Disney revolutionized the idea! RCI is now moving into the point system too. That means that in the near future when DVC members want to exchange to other properties we may not be locked into a week. I'm sure if RCI is using the point per night system, II can't be far behind! I have to admit I love answering we have DVC when other timeshares ask if we already own. You can see their faces drop- She even said Oh, you have the cadillac of timeshares! WE KNOW;)

I wouldn't expect II to go toward points system, at least not for a long time. As a matter of fact, a number of resort systems seem to be jumping form RCI to II over the last 2 years or so. RCI is having a tough time it appears selling this idea to existing resorts. I suspect you wont see the points option through the exchange company, at least not in our lifetime. That assumes that DVC stays with II, which I suspect is a reasonable assumption, since DVC just resigned the contract with II. Now what I could see is a direct alliance of Disney with other points systems like Intrawest, WorldMark, Fairfield, bluegreen. I wonder if it's any wonder that Ken May (former head of DVC) is now CEO of RCI with their new points system?
