Why is every single thread discussing renting being shut down? How much sway does the board sponsor really have here?

I would not necessarily attribute this to external financial pressure. Rather: the DIS has a long history of attempting to minimize conflict on the boards. Some corners of the DIS are more diligent about that than others, and the DVC corner is more diligent than most.

That doesn't mean the conflict does not exist.

I too have noticed a correlation (not necessarily a causal connection) between posts that might be problematic for the board sponsor and threads closing. Again, I'm not saying it's intentional--just a correlation that I've noticed before. Sometimes talk about issues like this brings about greater transparency and greater trust, which are good things. Thanks for posting the topic. I think what would most benefit the board community is the ability to discuss--with respect and consideration to others on the board--all aspects of the DVC experience in a way that benefits members and the intellectual depth of the board, without having to worry about outside financial interests. From other boards, I've learned that when you can't fully discuss a vendor with openness, then that most likely is a vendor to stay away from. All vendor have pros/cons, but when you can't discuss both of them, for me, that's a huge red flag. Again, that observation is from other boards (about printing, paper costs, shipping options, etc.).

Mods are under no pressure from the board or sponsors.

We are volunteers who do our best to make sure that the rules of the boards are followed.

We let the threads regarding walking and renting go on for quite a while and one was almost 100 pages.

The thread I shut down this morning was moving toward the same topic which was far off the topic of the original post.

At this point, the topics have been discussed in depth with a lot of opinions on both sides and great discussion, but without any new info from DVC, they are just a rehash of those topics and quite frankly, had posts that were seen as attacking of other posters.

We decided that it is best to wait until further information is released from DVc that might be relevant.

However, if you have a problem with any mods decision, report it to admin@wdwinfo.com

I have chosen to explain the reasoning, even though questioning mods decisions publicly is not allowed, in an effort to help understand why the decision was made today.

Also, there is a thread out there that allows for more “debate about controversial subjects.

Feel free to use that.
