Do you ever just want to pack up your family and move and work at Disney?
DH is so tired of his job and would do just about anything. I can work wherever I live since I am self employed.

I wasnt sure where else to post this? Anyone thought about it, or actually done it?

If I didn't love where I live so much, I think I would have done it a long time ago. Think about it a lot, then just go for a visit....cures my craving :thumbsup2

I say I'm moving to Orlando just about every day! I'd love to work at Disney World. I used to work at a Disney Catalog Outlet before it closed. I just love Disney. Every time we are down there I am searching for a new job for DH!

I would love to move to Orlando! I've been wanting to move there ever since I was a little girl. Maybe someday...

They don't pay well at all and I think working for WDW full time would ruin some of the magic. Now a 15 hr a week retirement job---that might be the ticket.

I have been trying to convince my DH to move to Orlando for years ! maybe someday he'll cave in

I must say I think about it also, but I agree with DVCJEN I thought that being there all the time, might get old.

The wife won't let me, but I've got 8 more years till retirement to convince her.

Think about it every day!!! :thumbsup2
But I do agree.... mixing my most loved hobby with work is a poor combo...
So my plan is to move to Fl, work at Target and visit WDW every chance we get.
Have to wait for DD to graduate high school, then she talks about going to Florida State for college and joining the WDW college internship program!

We got BIG PLANS!! :rotfl2:

YEP!! My dream is to captain a boat. :thumbsup2

DH doesn't think he could stand the heat, though, and the thought of hearing him complain 200 days out of 365 is enough to make me rely on my DVC points to get me "home" as often as possible.

Seems like it would be a blast but I couldn't live in Orlando. Although I haven't been there yet, from what I've been reading, I'd have a hard time with the humidity! I live in the tropics too but we don't get that type of humidity very often, maybe 2 or 3 times a year. If not for the weather it would be great!

My fiance has been looking for a placement to open up for his line of work in Orlando for months! It would be so great to live so close to the magic :thumbsup2

YOu can't imagine how much I've begged. I am so addicted to WDW, I have actually cried. If you look at my College Thread, you will see how desparate I am!

Absolutely. But with a 3-year-old, a house, dogs, family up here and a job I actually really like, it's just not going to happen.

I talked to a woman from Swansea who did just that. Drove down, went to casting, was hired that afternoon.
She chose to work in the resorts to the parks wouldn't become old. Smart move.

My DH (well fiance at the time) almost did. I had just graduated college and we wanted to move to Florida. My parents own property down there and were going to allow us to live in their townhouse (rental property) until we got settled and found our own place.

My problem was that I would have to work at WDW if I lived down there. I just completed my BS in Business Admin w/a concentration in Healthcare.

I actually even would have had no problem getting a job and had one lined up, all I had to do was transfer, because I worked for The Disney Store at the time. I couldn't see my $100,000+ education being used while working at WDW...at least in the capactity that I would have. So....we didn't go.

I would have loved to have done it...but realized I wouldn't be making the most of the degree that I worked so hard for. And the hospitals, etc down there...I looked into it, but if I lived close to WDW...I would have to work their.. :cool1:

When we were at WDW in Dec 2004 we were at the Columbia Harbor House in the MK when a young guy who was cleaning the tables came up to us and started a coversation, turns out he used to live about 1/2 hour away from us and that he just recently moved to orlando. He has 4 kids and asked THEM where they should move, they said WDW, and he picked up his family and moved there. He said that his wife just got a job at the AK, and that they were living in one of the apartments in WDW. I just got the feeling that he was not really that happy, and wasn't making enough money. I felt bad for him because he wanted to keep talking to us even though everyone else we were with wanted to leave - maybe he was just a little homesick and wanted to talk to someone from the same area. I just think that in theory, moving to WDW may seem like a wonderful idea, but I'm not sure that it would be everything that it's cracked up to be.

I tell my husband every-other-day that we need to move. I've even begged but it doesn't work. I told him that my dream job is to work for Disney and that I want to audition but he won't go for it. He says that $7/hr compared to what I'm making now doesn't cut it. Boo for him! :rolleyes2

I would like to. It would be easy because I do not have a family. But being on my own I need the benefits and retirement setup that comes with my current job, so I will split my time between here and there until I can retire.

I actually did it in 2000. I saved A LOT of money up before I went, and I'm glad I did because I learned all about the cost of living in Florida. Especially in Metrowest, a very nice neighborhood in Orlando. (My parents really wanted their baby living in a decent neighborhood after a friend was murdered in Orlando two years before!)
All that aside, I loved it. I lived at WDW and absolutely loved it. I did discover that you can't make a decent living at an entry level parks job. It's fun, but it doesn't pay the bills. You can work your way up, of course, and I was trying to do that. . . but 9/11 kind of tanked the tourism business and when my hours got severely cut I realized that I needed to move on. After all, while it's a ton of fun, attractions hostess is not really the best job for me or my talents.
I'll be back in FL soon I hope, as a doctoral student at one of their fine universities. Then I hope to become a professor at another fine FL institution. I don't care which one. I just want to be back in FL with easy access to WDW!

All the time. Would love to be a captain on the boats.
