Ever thought about applying for Disney Cruise Line Job?

Has anyone ever thought about this or applied? I'm really thinking about it.

My DD15 says she is going to after college We'll see if she still feels that way in 7 years. It looks like hard work.

Just keep in mind that there is a six-eight month contract. You basically can't go home during those times.

You will work seven days a week.

It is not glamourous, it is very hard work.

Most of the cast and crew have job functions that keep them working from early morning through late evening.

You will share a cabin and bathroom with a stranger. These spaces are more than a little small. They make a college dorm room seem spacious and grand.

US labor laws do not apply as far as the amount of hours you have to work, breaks given, etc.

Give it very careful thought before signing on the dotted line.

I'm not in a position to do it now, but it sure looked good to me. My DW thought it would be great after my kids grew up. I asked one of our servers about it, and they said it was a great job, but did manage to point out some of the things that ducklite so elequently noted.

After hearing all that, I began to hope that I could drive a boat for them at WL instead.

But something to think about -- it's a real testimonial to those CM's when they can work under conditions like that and not only make you feel glad you came and make you want to come back, but make you want to work their job!

My hat's off to those ladies and gentlemen.

I think for someone right out of college, it would be a great opportunity. Tons of hard work. Obviously the travel benefit is terrific and you'd have something that not only gives you great experience but something that will look impressive to prospective employers.

I think at 71 years of age I should apply to be "Other Mom"....I could be there when CM'S are homesick,need a button sewn on,some ironing done or just a hug....mmmmmmm,maybe I'll look into this...LOL

I'm a single parent. I work 7 days a week now. At least I'd be paid for it...

I think this would be more of a problem for whomever I "cabined" with. THEY would be the one with a stranger stranger...

I don't believe those laws are being applied where I work now, so it's an even trade off.

Hey great post!!! I wanted to disappear and work on DCL after my last cruise!!! The CMs are amazing and definitely do an outstanding job on this cruise line. I sent many thank yous to my
favorite CMs after my last cruise. The major difference between my first and second DCL cruise was the entertainment staff. I hope this summer's cruise will be as good as last summer! Thx again to Ian, Sean and John!!!

I echo BD's sentiments. I have actually been toying with the idea of checking into the opportunities at the Spa. Both of my daughters will be in college this fall. I have been a single parent forever - this might be the cure for empty nest syndrome.
During the next few weeks I will be moving to Melbourne - a half hour from the Port. I may look into a part time position at the check in counter on Sundays.....Who knows ??

Good idea! If you do it then I know my Mom would and we could have "Dueling Grandmothers" on the ship for the crew! I just love that idea!!!!!!!!!!!

Bette, you do have a great idea! Especially since if you are a CM, then family gets a discount or so I am told!!!!!!!!

I have been telling my kids and husband since DCL started in '98 that I would love to work on the ship when they are all out of the nest!!! I would love to be one of the character coordinators (the ones that walk around with the characters and keep all the kids from drooling on them) LOL!!!

I tried to recall a CM on board The Magic that was beyond the age of say 25ish (other than the Capt. & his crew) or that did not have a wonderful( tell me about your home land) accent when they spoke? Now, unless they create the Disney ship of *Mature*CM's that speak with a regional tongue, I know I wouldn't be a candidate for The Magic or The Wonder. Oh, gee.
