Last summer our family went down to Southern New Jersey to an American Indian Festival. It was on a reservation, so there isn't pavement, just grass & dirt paths.

In front of us walking was this older man who had 1 leg & was on crutches. All of a sudden a little boy came running next to him & hit on of the crutches to make the man fall down right on his face!

We ran right over to him scared we were going to see a bloody face when we helped him up. But instead he reeked of liquor & SCREAMED at us to mind our own business! My youngest son was shocked!

I explained to him that the man might have just been embarrassed & reacted the wrong way because of the liquor. Or maybe he was just one, old, tough dude!!

Anyone have any stories out there?

Actually, I was raised in the south, I lived in LA for a short time. I was on a bus out there, and as I exited I offered my hand to a lady getting off the bus. She kept saying Condescending ritual and stuff like that. I kept hearing Descending ritual. I just smiled and took it, but jeesh!

:bounce:

Don't you just love people?

As for your question... Uh... YEAH. It happens 2-3 times a week at work. I've learned that the people that you go out of your way for, or the ones you "bend the rules" for will be the ones to bite you in the butt later. So... think about that the next time you don't understand why businesses follow such strict rules. It's also why I wish we'd start charging for phone consults. I won't forget the woman who called three separate times talking to me for an hour each time, then wouldn't pay her outstanding bill (for services performed, not the phone call), then yelled some garbage about "you care more about money than my cat" when we told her she had to pay before we'd give her any more info (she walked out without paying when she left, which she claimed to have been a mistake).

Oh yeah... people on here do it, too. Some people don't actually want to hear a professional opinion. They just want someone to tell them that what they're already thinking/doing is right.

As for non-work stuff... I knocked on TWO neigbors' doors this week to tell them that their dogs were running loose. They BOTH seemed annoyed. I made myself late to work stopping for one of them. Ingrates. If someone found my dog running around, I'd be so grateful that I'd have to give them a reward in return. It makes me realize what a white trash neighborhood I'm living in. I feel so sorry for these dogs, and scared for them since I'm 3 houses away from a busy road.

I have had that happen to me also. I think people who react negatively are embarrassed. BUT, IMO, that is no reason to be ignorant to people who are kind to you.

When my dog was younger, he was a natural Houdini and would find a way to get out (every once in a while), no matter what we did. Yes, it is embarrassing, especially if they have found him in their yard more than once. (Thank God he is a sweety and people are drawn to him) But, I was GRATEFUL for the kind people who brought him home or called us and held him until we got there!

Besides getting it at my job EVERY day (I'm a social worker), my sister is INFAMOUS for doing this. The one that really stands out is when my mother, myself, my DS (then 3) and my nephew (then 10) went to retrieve my sister and her husband from Key West because they were tired of the hurricanes. Neither of them had a drivers license (but they had a car!!!) and they needed to get back to Illinois. We flew to Ft. Lauderdale, rented a van and drove to Key West, paid for the moving truck, and went to their trailer to get them. They hadn't even PACKED yet--and they hadn't found any homes for their MULTITUDE of fish. At any rate, I was driving this HUGE moving truck (with DS sitting up there in his car seat and looking adorable!) and my mother drove the van with my siser, her husband, my nephew, three dogs, and five cats!!!! My sister had the NERVE to complain and yell at me at almost EVERY stop that I was "driving too fast" "don't know what you're doing!" "not getting there fast enough" "stopping too much" "not stopping enough--my dogs have to pee more than that!!" By the time I got back to Illinois, I had had my fill of my sister and her husband for QUITE some time!!!!

BTW--Sorry Pop Daddy, Long Post ;)

A neighbor knocked on my door recently with my little doxie in her arms. I had not even known that he had gotten out and made a fool of myself apologizing and thanking her. I was so very grateful.

On the other hand, I had to stop once because a dog was running back and forth in the road. I tried easing forward and honking but the dog would not leave the road. I finally stepped out of my car and noticed the owner standing in his yard watching. I asked if he would please get his dog and he answered "No, just hit her."

I was in Wendy's one time and an older gentleman that was sitting all alone started choking.. When he tried to get up and started staggering I knew it was pretty serious so I ran over and did the Hemlich on him.. Sure enough a chunk of chicken came flying out of his mouth and halfway across the room..

And what did he do? Yelled at me for not minding my own business..

Okay...whatever......................................
